should mention my back-up was a hand auger doin' tose extra holes.
-
my pals gas auger was acting up a bit in the garage friday night so i thought i'd bring a back-up. good thing, saturday she'd die as soon as you put load on the throttle . i babied it through 4 holes and noticed 2 predrilled. once set-up and fishing for a while i ventured off 100 ft and cut a few more holes . it worked o.k. but it's cut better . sorry long way 'round to the question . is it possible to but a new edge on your blades or toss 'em and buy new each year ?

forgot to mention the slush, lots of it. one hut was just left where it came to rest. 2 sleds and 4 guys abandoned the relocation because the slush was just too thick. st.john aws a bit sloppy.

: got started a bit late 'cause of a tardy twosome . doesn't matter how early you get up it's just not working , you know? anyway , had a slow start and a late bite . one small eye, 14inch and a better pike as we pulled up lines.talked to some others who shared that they had marginal luck as well.

i wish, that sounds like a great job , designing and testing fishin' gear

what was the passing grade ? i had a great day on the water . what are you referring to ????

barrie's great!!! big enough to get whatever you need . growing like crazy . set your sites on your personal agenda ,,opportunity is there to accomidate. so close to fishing\hunting opportunities ,an hours drive and you could easily forget how close you are to a fair -size city.

did the leg-work for the faint of heart [with some help from members of the board] found the ice to be safe and convinced the sceptics we'll be fine. my buds and i are out tomorrow for pike. they're a bit nervous on a new waterbody. dead -stickin' the late mornin' and walleye in the early evenin' . can't wait .fill you in on lake st. john.
-
sorry for the delay i didn't get that response i was hoping for . i'm heading out tomorrow for pike and will definitely being using my go-to bait sardines. they really attract well and the imbedded hooks pull through easily for a quick and solid hook-set. i've been using them for years with no problem. although there are restrictions on smelt and herring there is nothing mentioned on the salt -water sardine in the reg.'s book. for me dead-sticking is #1 for finicky pike.

some of us can't get out as much as we think we should be allowed and when that opportunity hits ,,, yeah a bit of info goes along way .lookin' at the same empty glass with lake st.john.

waiting on a reply from a very well connected person . i'll pass it along as soon as i get response.
-
pretty sureb it's a dead issue but i'll see what i can find out .
-
ive brought pike on the ice with a ministry officer watching the whole thing using store-bought frozen sardines . the issue never came up. it's been 2yrs. since i've seen a officer on the lake .

guelph might not open this year due to low water levels apparently , but bellwood is saying they are hopeful not this weekend but next there could be sufficient ice thickness to open up shop for those big toothy critters.crossing my fingers.
-
you gotta feel for the victims of flooding in the north, like the huntsville area. definitely a mixed blessing with this bizarre weather . some of the now closed reservoirs and conservation areas are considering opening for the 1st time this year because of the melting snow and rain. belwood and guelph are talking about opening for ice fishing in the very near future and shades mill has already opened . great news for guys that can't get away to remote locales , myself included.
-
the january thaw is a blessing in some areas like the grand river water shed which desperately needed some water . at present they're talking about reopening belwood guelph and have reopened shades mill for fishing . good news for southern guys.
-
looking for a general report in the orillia , couch or lake st.john area . bringin' out a nervous buddy and would like to quite his inner voice 'bout the ice thickness.
-
obviously these idiots don't get it . getting away from urban stress and back to a relaxed frame of mind doesn't mean care-free, care-less abandone for any enviro. responsibilities. damn the short-sitedness of some want-to-be outdoorsman.
-
that's funny , but sadly all too true. just like the one that got away .sometimes hearing that though makes or breaks getting you out for the day if you were on the fence . it's always better than the couch.
-
my 1st week-end off in a while so i've been out of touch with what's been freezin'. haven't tried this pond yet ,any chance on hittin' a few gators?
-

after voicing my disagreement with the closure of my favourite pike haunt, i received a letter from the superintendent of this small water-body. i didn't get why you close a lake that has been producing more and bigger fish than years previous.thru phone calls we exchanged our opposing ideas and i kinda still was not siding with the governing bodies . it wasn't 'til i got this letter from the afore mentioned that suggested i pick-up a copy of "in-fisherman" that had an article headed "our fragile fisheries". once read there was light. as we know big spawners hit certain areas at certain times and are very vulnerable to human predation. my game has always been catch & release and this article reaffirms this foundamental with conviction. thanks to mr. g.r. costie , the superintendent of valens conservation area, for your responses. not fishing valens this winter doesn't hurt so much knowing she's getting better.
