Used a CA finish on this stuff, but less coats and polishing because I didn't want the mirror shine
-
Batson hardware, Chris?
I'm trying to find a source for some anodized hardware, I know Ernie gets it but a little pricey for me...
-
Absolutely amazing work!!! Just wondering what CA is? Ever thought of doing a YouTube video of the process or would that be giving away trade secrets?
Not too much of a secret, CA is essentially super glue. With many coats and some careful work you can achieve a glass like finish.
There are some YouTube videos that describe the process.

Nice job Brady!! Are you willing to pick up the slack when Spiel gets swamped?
Of course Mike, assuming you don't want a 7 colour chevron wrap that would take me 14 years to create...

no comment and let's not derail this post...
If you guys would stop talking about my wood for a minute we could talk about my rod... Wait, that's no better..

My mother drives a 2013 Subaru Impreza (AWD) with every bell, whistle, and feature you can stuff in it. She doesn't use winter tires.
Ill take my 2000 civic (FWD) without a bell or whistle but with winter tires in the snow every single time.
People seem to forget that AWD doesn't help you stop...

it looks great AND I like the look of the table its on too.
Two board harvest table, late 1800's I think. My parents' pride and joy...
Thanks all

All glued up tonight, will start wrapping the guides and post progress as I go.

I think it was an Atlantic.
Bill nailed it.

Update At bottom of page 1.
I recently built a 6wt spey rod on a Batson blank, and its been an absolutely pleasure to fish with. Light, crisp, powerful enough for small/medium size flows.
This got me thinking - it would make an awesome conversion for smaller water.
So, I give you the Batson IF1266-4 spey conversion. For this one I turned all the wood myself, and I'm really diggin' the walnut against the burgundy blank.
Length - 12'6" (4 piece)
Weight - 4.03oz (blank)
Nothing is glued up yet, that will happen this afternoon.
Cheers,
Kemper

I think the media has alot to do with this.... these crazies trying to outdo one another... knowing that they will be remembered... talked about... the anti-hero...
it is fame, infamy, martyrdom...
and the sad thing is... others will follow. trying to out do the last.
Media has a big part this..
G
Yep,
It's unfortunate that the media focuses on the crazies more than the victims.

i do believe that in states where CCW is permitted you aren't allowed to carry in a school. but, i could be wrong and this could vary state to state as each state decides when and where you're allowed to carry, except for the federal buildings.
it's a proven fact that crime rates drop the majority of time after CCW is introduced.
some reading for you anti's

Yeah, that paper really gives an unbiased opinion...

If I lived in a place where I felt it was necessary to protect my family with two semi-automatic hand guns and an M4 Carbine, I would move. Assault weapons are exactly that - weapons. These aren't tools, toys, collector pieces, or wall ornaments, they are weapons designed with a single purpose.
Absolutely an unnecessary tragedy.
If gun control made it harder for ever a single murder to be committed, wouldn't it be worth it?

Sweet lookin stick Chris!
I'm currently searching for a blank to tie a casting float rod on myself...this one has tweaked my interest.
Gotta get the spey conversion done first though, one thing at a time.
-
Daniel, I don't know if I'd bother with a do it yourself conversion. I have two lathes here. Here's the one that I use for making baits. And, as luck would have it, it's on sale at CTC. Check it out.
This is the same one that I use for making floats as well as turning cork handles and wood reel seats. Works great, and it's Mastercraft so CTC will replace it with no problems should it croak on you.
If you're serious, this is the best $100 you'll spend.

The Sutton River Journal will be hard to beat, although the Tree River posts are always a favourite for me...

Nice fish.
Just a thought, the quality of your roe may not have mattered.. It might have been your presentation and where you were drifting that was key.
You could have had the same results fishing beads.
cheers
HD
Yup, presentation is absolutely #1.
Nice fish.

Infomercials instantly destroy any credibility a product may have for me...

Thanks Cliff.
I'm sure some idiot will dunk their truck in the next couple weeks, and then be surprised when the 4" of slush didn't hold them up...
-
I find flouro doesn't hold up very well to shot being repeatedly moved around on it, it tends to fray (At least from my limited usage).. I like mono for shot line, it's strong and cheap.
Yup. Can't beat 12lb Maxima.

Then maybe you'd prefer limits based on sex? It's an easy enough identification to make between male and female bows.
See where I'm going? It is completely out of place and unwarranted to tell somebody to change their behaviour, if they are working within the letter of the law as endorsed by the MNR.
How about this - I PERSONALLY believe that it is my responsibility as an angler to practice sustainable harvest regardless of what the MNR believes "sustainable" to mean.
I have no authority to "tell" anybody what they can or cannot due, but I certainly think that as anglers it's important for us to educate ourselves on ethical and sustainable practices.
Again, if you want to go out to the local pond and crack your limit on the noggin' every day then have at it. There is nothing anyone can say about that, if it's within the law it's within the law. I just think if we all used a little common sense here and there our kids might get a chance to experience the same (or better) fishing that we are able to.

All four winters on my cars always. I spend a lot of time in the car in winter, and they have paid for themselves again and again without a doubt.
-
I like the shot line for several reasons:
1. I run Nanofil main line and a very fast rod. Without something to absorb the shock I will blow leaders all day on the hookset.
2. Sliding shot around on the Nanofil is just about impossible.
3. I don't like to re-tie, or re-load on shots. With a heavy main line and heavy (12lb Ultragreen) shot line, I never have to re-tie anything above the lead and I can run the same shot all day.
If I wasn't using Nanofil I would simply run one swivel below the float (like I do in the winter, Nanofil doesn't seem to like ice).
Is the Nanofil worth all this hassle? 100% without a doubt yes.

If they are harvesting within the law they don't need to be "educated", Neanderthal or not.
It is the Ministry's job to determine and enforce sustainable practices.
Since when has any Ministry been able to make perfect decisions that are in the best interests of all parties involved...
I agree, if people are within the law then nobody can say a thing - everyone has the privilege of harvesting their limit.
BUT - a little education goes a long way. Whacking two fat females every time you go out is within the law, but certainly not sustainable.
Wood chips everywhere!
