It truely is a sad day. It has happened to me a number of time and it never gets any easier. Each dog has his or her own personality with the way they wag their tail, bounce around, chew on socks, eating habits, lick your face, etc. And when you have to say good bye it truely is like loosing your best friend of close family member. Some of my fondest memories are of my dogs. I agree the best thing you can do is to buy a new one. No it will never replace the old one but it will make coping with the loss much easier and as already stated, it gives you some one new to love.

I'm no expert by any means but here is what works for me. I have a 10 foot fiber glass rod that is heavey, completely non flexable and quite old. I pair that with a cheep canadian tire reel (granted he reel is very annoying and gets replaced every so often). I use 8 lb mono. I dont even know what the point of a leader is. I use those steelhead hooks as you say. octopus or round tear drop shaped ones, usually gold in colour - size 10 or 12 maybe ? i dont remember. I like to use those clear pastic floats i think they are cale "slip floats" though the last time I went i used the classic red and wite bobbers and it worked well enough. FYI - find a pool just bellow a rapids or just before a rapids, and cast up stream then let the bait "drift" through the pool before you reel it in again. with the roe presentation I usually clip on 4 tiny split shot about 4 or 5 inches appart starting 4 inches above the hook. I have caught them using biege, oragne, and pink coloured roe bags. roe is very exensive buying it premade at cdn tire though! 5.99$ for maybe 6 pieces! Alot of guys talk about using "pink worms" .. I dont know what that is. i suspect its a berlky type power bait or something, rubber worms that smell all fish foody and such. probably about 2 or 3 inches long. There is always using flyhooks, i used to tip my flys with trout power bait squishy balls. that worked pretty good for rainbows in small creeks. As too if any one is still at it. I was down at the cobourg brook for 2 hours or so a few days ago. there were 11 people fishing it including my self. I didnt get any how ever the guy beside me got a real heavty lookin hunk of steel. maybe 20-25 inches or so. any way. as I said I am no expert and there are probably plenty of things you could do different but thats what I do for the most part.

I found this old fish finder ina a pile of my grandfathers old things after he passed away. Back then i didnt know what it was. While rummaging through the pile looking for a minnow trap i had stashed in there I found it again and realized what it was. Here are some images of my new old Lowrence FISH LO-K-TOR model 300 (not D) My problem is found in the following 2 images. The transducer cover has been removed or fallen out. This is an easy fix with a couple bolts and nuts. The wire which I am holding is the power source for the unit. I do not know what Kind of battery it takes though I suspect it might be 2 D size flashlight batteries. I can rig up a battery holder and connectors no problem but I dont want to fry the unit putting in the wrong type of batteries. Can any one tell me the battery type? or the voltage required? do you think it would work with one of those big square batteries with the positive and negative springs? Does any one have experience with these ? I believe they were nicknamed the "green box". ALSO, any info as-to how they work would be greatly appriciated. IE: sensitivity nob, suppressor nob? Thanks! I'd like to go down to the bay of quinte and try my hand at ice fishing. My problem i that I have never been so i dont know where to go, any access points, bait shops etc. Short of telling me your secret hot spots, can you offer any information as to where I can park? Where can I get bait? any popular shoals etc? also, Can you tell me if the ice is strong enough to support us yet or when it hopefully will be? finally, I am hoping to stay close to brighton if possible. Thanks! James

Bancroft and area ice conditions???
kingjames_2nd replied to MuddyWater's topic in General Discussion
When the snow falls on the ice it forces up water through the cracks which causes the slush. Some how the water being forced up and down through the cracks or what not can create a circular hole which then developes long lines leading away from it shaped like a spider web. They open up to about the size of a boot. big enough for some one to step through. Look here for a picture and a discription. Scroll down to the third picture. --> http://www.myccr.com/SectionForums/viewtopic.php?t=20277 Any way, I saw a couple the other day and made sure to stay well away from them. James -
Bancroft and area ice conditions???
kingjames_2nd replied to MuddyWater's topic in General Discussion
I just got back from the ice near Apsley -- 45 minutes south of bancroft. The ice was about 10-12 inches thick with 4 inches of sloppy slush on top in some places. Watch out for spider holes too, I could see some of them poking though the snow! - James -
All of today's potential lakes are in the additional fishing opportunities section with year round fishing allowed*. Thanks for the concern though. *except dec 24!

I am heading to some lake trout and/or splake lakes very soon and am curious to know what the fishing community would recomend as a good depth to drop my bait to? should I find a bay of 5 feet or so and drop it near the bottom? or go out to the deeps 30, 40, 60, 80 feet deep and drop it to the bottom? keep it suspended at some medium depth? It will probably be guess work but any suggestions you have would be greatly appriciated thanks! James

Can any one comment on the current or recent ice conditions On Crowe Lake? Is it fishable yet? If so, is there anywhere local that I can pick up some minnows? thanks, James

I got slapped with jury duty twice and audited by the tax man all before turning 22. I told the court people I ws a student and couldnt take time away from school and avoided those ones. The tax man was a different story. I had claimed my rent for the year but had no reciept. the tax man wanted a recpiept but my land lady being the scum hose that she was, wouldnt pass one over. so after alot of hastle I ended up paying the tax man the money he said I owed, moved out of the town house and havent delt with those government types since. ( aside from voting)

It's all about the blue bombers!! I have to root for them because they are the RAT-BAST***S that took out the Argos. (granted the argos sucked out the last game) However, having lost their starting QB to a broken arm, I feel any betting man should place money on SASK. Never the less; I like a good under dog story. Here's to the Bombers! also LETS GO ARGOS ..... because I can.

basskicker, this intrests me! Can you give us any information on the process of making those, and if / how they work?

I was trying to teach my self to flyfish last summer and in the process got my self in the face. Luckily it didnt catch but only fell away. I made sure no one was around. any way, right after that I decided I'd better stop the lessons.

There is a local bridge I spent a good portion of my summer fising from a year or 2 ago. All along the road I would find these greese stains and think people had thrown away their bait fish or something. eventually it dawned on me tht people had been catching round gobies and tossing them onto the road. Then I looked over to my left and there was anothe rone of those catch and keep everything guys, and he had a pail full of tiny pan fish and gobies. on another note, I had a room mate a few years ago that would make a big pot of what looked like tomatoe sauce and then throw in whole sea bass head and all. After boiling it for a length of time he'd scoop it into a big bowl and eat the entire fish (less the bones) I have a suspicion that this might also be how some people eat tiny fish.

--> Nice one!!! The fish is almost to big for him to hold! I love it This is my first steelhead ever.
