  1. Despite the 80%/10mm rain forecast a buddy and I headed out for some fall Muskie.  After all that  all we experienced was a 20 min. rain shower which was way better than expected and the afternoon temp was very pleasant.

We were on the water by 9am and off at 6pm.. fishing was on and off all day and the bite didn't start until around noon.  Water temp was still 60 deg. and we ended up landing 3/5 skis and one aggressive largie.  All fish came on med sized baits in bright perch patterns, mine all came on a super shad rap (including the bass) retrieved at a high rate of speed.

Although the fish we're that big they were very fun to catch as I'm sure you've all experienced..

    Raycaster,

I have sent spinning reels in (Stradic CI4's) in a few years ago. The cost is roughly $30.00 and they change out the parts that wear the easiest. I cannot remember what they changed on my spinning reels but on the baitcast reels, they replace the pinion, ,main gear and any bearings that are done.

Now, if your reel is still smooth, it may not be worth it but it will certainly not hurt. Shimano supports their reels for about 5 years after they discontinue them. After that, it is hard to say if they will have the parts required for the service.

I typically service my own baitcasters unless a part needs to be replaced. In that case, I will send the reel in instead of ordering the part to save me some time.

I took a 30 yr old spinning reel into them last year with a broken bail spring.  First assessment is that they part wasn't available but 2 weeks later I got a call that it was ready for pickup.  $25 and its better than new.  My advice is to get all your shimano reels serviced by them at one time or another. Once a year for reels with a lot of use, etc.  FYI, I use a Calcutta 400D for musky (2-3 trips a year)  only so i'll send it in after about 5 yrs unless theres a problem.

Hello all haven't posted in many years, but still fish when time allows....the long and short I'm looking for the locking clamp piece of a minnkota 50lbs from the year 2002. Mine has broke and was just throwing it out there as a last ditch effort to see if anyone had one that was pooched, but the plastic bits were still good. Any help? I'm currently using a ratchet strap, but that's becoming a pain in the you know what. According to minnkotas website that part isn't available anymore....for what it's worth, it's a bow mount "power drive". 12 volt. Thanks, Greg.

Talk to Tyler at Rocky's in Orillia. He has tons of parts on hand.  You may just get lucky.

  5. Merc makes a dedicated 9.9 kicker (pro kicker). Its got the bigfoot (HD) lower unit and a high thrust prop.  COmes in a  tiller or remote.

I bought mine at Bass Pro during a February sale, saved something like $800.. They do the full  PDI and demo as well.  no one else could touch it.. buying power I guess.

Regarding the lights, you'll have to run them off your cranking battery which is fine if its healthy and sized accordingly.  I don't have any experience with bar lights but I have LEDs in the box of my truck and they're perfect for what you need. Still wont' replace a hand held but handy none the less.

PM me if you need any tips running the kicker, etc.

I'm fishing for smallies from my kayak on one of the deeper Kawartha Lakes next Saturday. I've got three tactics I want to use but I don't want to limit myself. I know there's a lot better bass  fisherman than me on here, so my question is If this was your list, what would you put in slot 4?

    1. Topwater

    2. Texas rigged craw

    3. Drop shot

    4.

Drop shot is my personal fav cuz you can use it in a variety of depths and conditions.  TR craw is a good idea but you can also use creature baits. Again, deeper water you'll want more action from the plastic - the reason  wacky works so well is the action it produces when rigged that way..  My order would be:

    1. Drop shot or Bubba shot. Lost of fun on ML tackle
    2. Topwater in less than 12 fOW
    3. Shakey Head or Ned for smooth bottom conditions
    4. Wackey senko
    5. Paddle tail swimbait (IE Keitech) Can be fished weedless.
    6. Squarebills and other cranks (based on water depth)
    7. TR plastics. I prefer plastics with a ton of action.

For storing snelled hooks, perch rigs, and walleye spinners, I like to use short pieces of foam pipe insulation. Start with the line end and wrap tightly over itself and finish with sticking the hook back in the foam. Its smaller than pool noodles, cheap, and fits in the larger size tackle box trays.  Keeps them from turning into a tangled mess.  I use the same for salmon flies, herring holders and hoochies.

Agreed, more compact than pool noodle.  i'm using the 3 pk  lindy snell holder.

we need to go fishing and ill show you how to rig up a drop shot that will outfish anything...

had a morning last year i caught 24, the rest of the boat...a collective 5 using a whole pile of different rigs all displaying the same bait.

drop shotting might be the most "gear specific" fishing aside from the obvious fly fishing etc, where the rod you use, the hooks, the line and the technique all matter a ton.

    PM SENT!!!
