Cooler Question.....NF
TroutnMuskieHunter replied to TroutnMuskieHunter's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for all the replies guys!!..Dano gave me an idea ....I'm going to put the cooler inside of my -25C rated sleeping bag and then secure it down really well to the ATV rack so it doesn't blow off on the road!!...The worse thing that could happen is that the beer won't be as cold as I'd like when we get up to the cabin!! -
WOW..she has a good strong shot ...the Sens could of used her last night!!

Cooler Question.....NF
TroutnMuskieHunter replied to TroutnMuskieHunter's topic in General Discussion
Dan, it's one of those Coleman "Extreme" coolers....great in the summer...It's kept blocks of ice for 6 days during camping...Never used one in the winter..We're headin up to Temagami next week leaving the house at 05:00AM and the forecasted lows are in the -30C range...it's things like the eggs, milk, cream, lettuce cheese, etc...that I'm worried about... not the meat...now I'm wishing I would have bought a supercab instead of a regular cab pick-up!!! -
Anyone have experience with using coolers during the winter months??...Me and the lads are headin 6hrs north next week for some fun and fish and I don't have room inside the truck for the cooler...The plan is to strap it down to the rack of the ATV in the back of the truck... Will things like BEER, eggs, BEER, fruits, BEER, veggies, BEER, freeze within the 6hr drive??? Thanks, Steve

I received a return call from a senior CO this afternoon to talk about this controversial reg...we both had a few laughs during our conversation...he said that word was spreading quickly among the districts that this reg was the "hot potato" of the week Technically, the way that it's worded in the Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1997, ONTARIO REGULATION 664/98, a CO could issue a citation for anyone not having a registration for a tent made of cloth or synthetic fabric that has a basal area of two square metres or less when erected. O. Reg. 409/04, s. 1. The probability of this happening to someone using a portable hut (this is his example) is compared to a police officer charging you with speeding, if he caught you doing 1km over the speed limit... He also said that they have better things to do than walk around a portable ice hut with a measuring tape to see if it exceeds the 2 square metres ... The bottom line is that they use common sense when it comes to issues regarding regs as this one...the whole intent of this reg is to ensure that they can contact/charge a person using the registration# in their database in the event that the ice shelter is NOT off the ice in accordance with the date for hut removal for that particular Zone. Here's the link to the e-laws: http://www.search.e-laws.gov.on.ca/en/isys...es&context=

This is absolutely hilarious ......I just called the Pembroke MNR Ice Hut registration clerk to register my Clam and she said seeing how my hut is portable and I'm using it for day trip only, I don't need to register it... Call Nancy at MNR for more info...(613) 732-5502

I just talked to Carl and he is the resource desk "clerk" for Parry Sound....he said that he was just going by what is printed in the 2008 regs. ..I asked if I could speak to an enforcement officer and he informed me that they were in a total different building elsewhere in Parry Sound..

Terry, The email address won't do you any good because it was sent from her home ie..Yahoo.com Her direct line at MNR is (705) 475-5569 and the name is Diane Jenner.....

I received this e-mail from MNR this morning which clarifies the "portable hut registration" issue. Hi Steve, Please accept my apology for not sending you that email yesterday. I got swamped and totally forgot! I'm not at work today, but checked my voice mail this morning. Thanks for calling back with a reminder. So here goes: For the 2008 ice fishing season, portable ice huts that are removed off the ice at the end of the day do not require a registration number. As well, any shelter erected for storage or eating purposes that are removed at the end of the day also do not require a registration number. Hope this is what you need. Again, I'm sorry for not sending this out to you yesterday. Happy Fishing and be careful out there.....ice conditions/thickness are not consistent. I called the North Bay MNR office again and asked for a reply back in writing via mail and e-mail...I will post it as soon as it arrives!!

This is very strange....I just received a call (today at 09:30) from the North Bay MNR Enforcement Supervisor who was returning my message I left regarding this Fish hut Registry issue yesterday... He informed me that portable huts (he used the example of "Clams") that are out for day outings only, do NOT need to be registered.. The reg states: You do not need to register an ice hut if it is a tent made of cloth or synthetic fabric that has a base area of two square metres (21.5 square feet) or less when erected. This reg is more for the individuals that set-up tents (canvas, plastic..etc..) and leave them out on the ice for extended periods. I'm in total argeeance with this reg. We have had repeated issues year after year with having to go out on the ice here on the Ottawa R. after the season closes and drag back other anglers remains of makeshift tents made from 2x2s and vapor barrier and even big tarps that they left to rot on the ice!!

Hey Wayne....I got so caught up on this post about no fish Temagami Lake and open water fishin, that I forgot to tell ya that me and the boys will be up there next Friday for the weekend targeting Whitefish and hopefully some eyes through the ice.....(it's our annual hard water get outa town and have some fun weekend!!) We should be on the lake Friday by noon I hope..

I'll do that Wayne.... you should also drop by at the lodge we're stayin at for a couple of ice cold "pops" if you're out and about in the boat..Seeing how there's no fish, you must get tired of just touring around the lake burnin gas..I'll send ya a pm as the trip gets closer... Thanks, Steve

Ice Shack falls through Ice on Ottawa River
TroutnMuskieHunter replied to TroutnMuskieHunter's topic in General Discussion
Hey Don...how ya doin bud???....not sure if I'm goin to haul out the shack on the river this year...let's see what the weather brings in the next couple of weeks....I'm headin' up to Temagami on the 24th for a few days with Trevor and the lads...I'll let you know how we did... I do have another shack available to use, but it's on the other side of the Bay...they caught a 5lb eye out of it last night...We'll get out for sure when I get back from my trip!! Thanks for the offer Dan aka WB...a few us went out today, grabbed some Christmas trees that were out for garbage collection and put them all along the ice area of where the shack went in...us locals know who the owners of the shack are and their lack of respect for the safety of others Steve -
Ice Shack falls through Ice on Ottawa River

They haven't marked the hole or pushed the ice blocks back into the open water....with the cold weekend forecast and light snow coming, I'm worried that someone might get hurt.... I'm just not sure who to contact?????.... -

I sent a question about proper battery storage to a well known Marine Mechanic during the fall ..here is his reply: I get this question alot and found out that there are alot of myths and the concrete floor is one of them. To stop the battery from discharging thus needing to be charged during the winter adding another cycle to its life put it in the COLD. COLD weather stops the battery from discharging and that stops it from freezing. Alot of golf courses that have carts run into the battery dilemma on a big scale. Each cart has alot of batteries. Anyway they check the level of electrolyte and fill using only distilled water and then fully charge the battery and then put it out side and wait for the snow to come. I check the fluid levels in my batteries and then fully charge them and then put the boat in the barn. Have had no issues using this method I will put the charger on them once to check the charge and it usually shows fullly charged in a couple of minutes. Right now I am using and selling Interstate Batteries, I have used them for some years and have had good success with them. I know the battery show is sometimes a crap shoot but having been there and got the T-shirt I now know what's what with batteries and that's why I went with Interstate. There are only 4 battery manufacturers in North America. One in Japan and a couple in the EU. The difference is the performance specific to each battery brand but manufactured by the same company. You get what you pay for and I found that Interstates 29 series deep cycle has the same perfomance specs as other companies 31 dc. Big thing is the fluid level and fully charge before storage and everything should be fine.

congrats ....what size of motor did you get with it??
