  1. Hey Joe... it comes off the same line as the carrier unit.. the t-stat wire is being replaced and a new programmable t-stat installed... I think I did ok in terms of priceing... 1750.00 CDN for the furnace, installation, new t-stat and chimney liner.... hell cheapest place I found for the liner installed was 400.00.. I think I am getting a good deal considering my in-laws just paid 3000.00 3 months ago for a mid (non brand name) and did not require a liner... Gerritt.

  4. or got tired of the flack he was receiving from some members. anyways it is nice to see that your still alive Randy come around and post more often. is you make Nippissing next year... bring a larger Mason Jar LOL Gerritt.
  5. Steve, I had my Hot water tank replaced just after we bought the house 5 years ago.. it is a rental unit but hey I didnt have the cash to purchase one.) anyways the gas guy said I needed a chimney liner at 450.00 money I just didnt have having just shelled out 20,000.00 bucks for the house purchase. The tech installed it anyways but made me promise I would get one put in... and to be honest I forgot about it. Till now!! now that I have some bux in the ol' savings account I will be sure everything is done properly and to code. The furnace is coming from a Supply house in Brantford so I am not too worried about it being a stolen unit.. I am going to pick it up in my truck good advice on making sure I have decent airflow in the mechanical room when I am finished renovating, I am leaning towards a Mid-Efficiency unit... can all mids be hooked up to outside air for combustion?and if it is I dont need to worry about CO levels as there is always a fresh supply of O2... and if it is hooked up to the outside does that mean the cold air returns in the house are rendered useless? Gerritt.
  6. Randy, Long time no talk man!!! How you doing?? still making them worm harnesses? if so I need to order a few....dang snags!! LOL but they produced well!! hows everything where you are? Family is good I hope? I will tell my brother-in-law I was talking to your guys he thought you and your buddy were "cool" LOL.. Gonna make it to Nississing this summer? Gerritt.
  7. WOW... that is alot of information!! thanks RT2!!! I was thinking of repairing the old unit... but the wife and I discussed it and decided it is a bandaid measure for a 24 year old furnace and while we have the basement ripped apart now is the time to do it. Otherwise I would be knocking out walls to get the dude outta the basement later.. it is about a 60% efficient furnace ( I did the monthly bill method of working it out from CHMC) and there is no chimney liner currently installed (potential for CO2 poisoning) If by replacing the unit I can have piece of mind that I wont have to worry about my house burning down... it is worth it to us.. I would have thought furnaces have a trip device to shut the bloody furnace off when it gets too hot.. and by hot i mean the supply plenum is insanely hot to the touch after 3-4 hours of running non-stop. Thank you guys for your suggestions! Helpful as always.. This is why OFC is by far the best site on the net. Gerritt.
  8. Joe I will be sure to get the model numbers from him at some point this weekend.. I would be interested in reading about its specs etc as well... Bucktail I live in a bungalow so I should be ok in regards to any blower issues. Rick I am in the same boat... not a ton of insulating value in the house... but there will be when I am done with it ccmt I too have a fireplace (NG) in my basement but I havent used it in months.. infact I just dissconnected it as I am tearing out my basement... nows the time to replace the furnace as well with the basement torn out Thanks guys, your input is always valuable. Gerritt.
  9. Joe Based upon my monthly heating bills.. there is only a 10% difference between the two units the mid will be 82% and the high would be 92% based on a 100.00 a month bill (mine are never that high) I would save about $10.00 the unit I have now is an old Grimsby and was installed in November of 1982 (according to the Techs tag) LOL it even says Grimsby High Efficiency on it... I guess it was a good unit back in the day compared to other standard efficiency models. this thing is huge and requires 3 foot of clearance at either end to open the panels... anyways I have had 2 different techs look at it... people I have known for years and have worked along side on various projects and none of them have ever changed a part on the unit... as they couldnt replicate what it is doing.. It is definatly sporadic and only occurs occasionally such as tonight and 3 nights ago... My one buddie Peter (licensed tech) spent 2.5 hours here trying to solve it ( he couldnt get the furnace to fail) But trust me it is failing.... when it runs for 2-3 hours straight fan going at full tilt and the burner is still lit... something is not right... I trust these guys and if they wanted to screw they could have... but didnt... Peter wouldnt even take my money for the time he spent here as he said he didnt fix anything... I know noone else would do that for me. I think I am making the right decision by replacing it... last thing I want is my house burning down when I am not here because I didnt spend 1700.00 to replace a furnace I know is faulty... BTW it is a Payne furnace... made by Carrier... any good? Gerritt.
  10. I will be sure to eat Habitant soup when I see MTL finish dead last in their division come the race for the playoffs.... Hmmmm Regular pea.. or pea with ham??? I much rather prefer it with PORK. LOL Gerritt.
  11. Well... I have decided to replace my furnace. It has been problematic for the last 2 months....not turning off sporadically... and it is worrisome. I have had a couple HVAC guys we work with come and take a look and noone has been able to see anything wrong nor seen it happen... but it does.. the stat is set to 20 i wake up in the middle of the night sweating buckets and the house is at 28... I have changed the stat and the wire going to the furnace... to no avail. Time to bite the bullet and purchase a new one.. Now comes the question on which one... I can get a Mid-Efficiency installed for 1750.00 that includes a chimney liner etc... everything it needs to function. Or I can get a High-Efficiency for 2400.00 again everything included... there is an almost 700.00 difference in the two prices. while my cost savings on fuel might be only 5-15 dollars a month... is there any other benefits to going to a high efficiency I am missing? is the extra 700.00 really worth it? thanks guys you were a huge help the other night... if I can pester just once more.. Gerritt.
  12. Moosebunk thank you for your reply... Yes my son has been diagnosed with eczema he is seeing both a Dermatologist and a doctor that specializes in adolescent allergies. My son has been prescribed more creams and more antibiotics then I can even begin to count... problem is they have little lasting effect.. and he too young for the majority of the drugs available to help him cope.. we all hope he will grow out of this and is just a stage but we have to be prepared that it just might not be temporary.. He also suffers from severe food allergies, Wheat, Eggs, Dairy Products, Soy, Legumes... and all the by products of the above... try and go to your Grocery store and purchase something without the above ingredients... it is difficult.. he carries around Epipen just incase... He sees a nutritionist to make sure he is growing properly sand getting the nourishment he requires from the foods were are able to feed him. He is doing well in this regard as I am spend a small fortune on specialty foods from specialty shops to cater to his needs. he eats alot of Organic veggies and fruits.. and his protein comes in the form of certified organic Meats etc.. Turkey, Rabbit, Lamb and wild game are all considered less allergic compared to other meats I never thought I would know as much as I do about foods and nutrition and food ingredients and that stuff you cant pronounce on food labels....but I had no choice but to receive a crash course and the good thing.... I have lost 20lbs myself by eating better Just a small synopsis on my little mans experiances in life Gerritt.

  15. Guys please dont get me wrong... I love my son more then anything on gods great earth. We deal with his issues daily. We just dont want others to worry any more then they already are.. we are not trying to sugarcoat anything.. just want to make him look like he does when he has his good days.. Here is an example of one of his good days... They look like two totally different children but I assure you they are the same... just turns out that his allergies are acting up... so I would like to clean the xmas pics up a bit... and trust me.. when his skin is not bothering him he is delightful.. right now he is a handful lol thanks for understanding guys... it is hard to see him like this right now.. as there is little we can do for him other then ask to stop trying to scratch his face off... Gerritt.
  16. I have a wive too.... I call her my liability... Gerritt.
  17. TG it is the redness in his face we are trying to resolve...while my son is perfect to us... we would like to have something that looks a little cleaner to send to family, alot of the time his face is potted with scabs and blisters... While we know he what he is... He a vibrant young little man and Stubborn!! like his dad... but some people cant see though his condition and constantly ask questions... and personally we are tired of answering them... especially from the older members of our families it is something he will/should grow out of... Gerritt.
  18. ok most of you know about my sons allergies and with them come eczema as well as asthma... we took a bunch of shots for xmas that we would like to send to family... but in them his skin looks way worse then what is normally is... I need you photo gurus to help me fix it if possible to get rid of the redness thanks in advance guys... I can email you the original file 1.65 mb... if you are able to fix it... pm me your email Gerritt
  19. I also have the 4.6L Triton v8 in my F150 and that motor is a work horse.. I have easily pulled 2 tons with it without a hiccup. A guy on a job I am working on have the 5.4 and wishes he had the 4.6 just do to gas mileage especially since 99% of the time your not towing. Gerritt.
  20. I was born in Brantford, and lived in Paris.. Spent a few years in North York, but spent a good majority living in Mount Hope... Then off to party errrr.. I mean University (Western) I lived in St. Thomas for 4 years while in school before coming back home.. I now reside on Hamilton Mountain. Gerritt.
  21. When I bought our house I sealed the humidifier off from the system using the Steel plate to seal the Flexline.. next I emptied the tray and turned off the water supply to the Humidifier...I cleaned the tray and float etc before I shut it down and just did the same about an hour ago... the unit is clean... but for how long.. it hasnt been used in over 4 years till today.. I am still concerned with moisture settling in the filter (should I be concerned with the filter?) or do I say stuff it and spend a few bucks for a newer more efficient and less mold emitting model if such a unit exsists??? is my current unit still adding humidity to the house or should I shut it down till I can get my HVAC guy here? no sense in wasting hydro etc... thanks guys. Ger.
  22. ok NOW I am confused..... Gerritt.
  23. Hey Joe, yup it is a barrel type with a sponge.... Should I be looking at something else to prevent mold? Gerritt.
  24. Great... I thought something just did not look correct... as it looked so inefficient circling back through the furnace (Cold air return) back into the supply, in order to add humidity to the house Looks like I will bring my HVAC guy to install a new one corectly.. Great... Gerritt.
