I've been to woodland echoes on Ahmic. i think the last time i was there was around 5 yrs ago. Great place and reasonably priced. From what the locals say, Ahmic has quality, not quantity for walleyed cuz of the smelt. For smallmouth, my best day for smallmouth was on Ahmic. i think between my bro and i, one day we caught over 50 and i caught my personal best that day as well. We hired a guide that the owner of woodland echoes recommended. he had a wicked bassboat and very reasonably priced. you can call them and ask for him. i believe his name was Louie. We also ventured into Cecebe which the guide says was better for Largemouth as it was shallower and had more weeds. There are some pike in Ahmic too. i gotta get back up there.

i need a refresher on how these brake pins work. my curado and metanium have six pins and my three abus have two pins and they both have the plastic pieces (for lack of a better word) that slid up and down on the pin unless locked in. i think there are four configurations for the six pin shimano. for the abus all but #3 would be options. 1. all pins unlocked 2. all pins locked 3. every other pin locked 4. remove all pins (not sure this is a viable option) So... 1. what do those pins do? (and what relation to the brake on the handle side of the reel to tighten and loosen before you cast? 2. what does each scenario above does 3. And then i was wondering why are those pins even needed as the criminal in the beginning of dirty harry said...."i gotsta know" thanks in advance

thanks for all the advice. i really enjoy finesse fishing so i would probably be fishing jigs. and i would say relatively shallow (less than 15 ft) and in regards to line i can go either mono or braid, but have been doing more powerpro these days. but more than anything, it was more of a general tackle question. perhaps to better state the question would be to look for a rod for the type of fishing i mentioned in this post. thanks

i just got back from Aikman's to get some new drag washers for my C3 and Calcutta 250, which i use for muskies. I asked the guy (didn't ask his name) how the C3's were in general and he said the metal of the gears is quite low in quality and especially with throwing big lures it's gonna wear quickly. On the other hand he said my 14 year old Calcutta has much fewer problems...actually just bearings if they get rusty, or the antireverse bearing(?) might begin to have some play. my C3's still okay as it's on my secondary muskie rod. anyway, that's what i do when i visit my trusted mechanic. i ask him which cars he fixes the most and make a mental note not to buy those models... my suggestion would be to get on ebay and look for a used calcutta or daiwa millionaire cvx or cvz. i think you can get lucky and find them around 100 bucks. and my C3 doesn't cast anywhere close to the smoothness of my calcutta. the calcutta is a proven and timeless reel. much better constructed IMHO. good luck on your search.

To preface this question let me state that i am not a walleye fisherman. Every walleye i've caught was caught when targeting another species. I'd like to be more experienced some day, but for now i lack experience and knowledge w/ general walleye tackle. So here goes the question... Unless i've heard wrongly, bass rods often times have a fast taper, w/ a strong lower half of the rod. i know certain applications like cranks and spinners require a slower taper. So is it true that generally speaking walleye rods have a slower taper? if this is so, i don't understand why. in my thinking because walleye fishing is often done at deeper depths, you would want a fast/extra fast taper to make up for lots of line out and line stretch in hook setting. Or is it because walleye fishing often requires the use of light lines and therefore require more give in the rod? It is quite possible i have no idea what i'm talking about. Someone care to shed some light? Schmanks!

Is Fluorocarbon leader worth the premium price?
goteeboy replied to tschirk's topic in General Discussion
i just bought some FC musky leaders on ebay from seller charlier2753 in wisconsin. he hand makes all of them. they look really well made, but haven't tried them in the water yet. he's got all sorts and some cool snaps too. -
For the best beach i've been to in a provinical, and okay for fishing is the Pinery, you can rent canoes. about 3.5 hrs away East. very good comfort stations. Bon Echo is okay too.

# Chuck Norris does not own a stove, oven, or microwave , because revenge is a dish best served cold. # Tom Clancy has to pay royalties to Chuck Norris because "The Sum of All Fears" is the name of Chuck Norris' autobiography.

great report. it's my brother's and my dream to make it up there one of these days.

personally, i think the show was pretty lame. though i was very tempted w/ the 16ft lund deal. i saw italo's seminar on monday. imho, he talks as if he's talking to a 3 year old who's never held a fishing rod before. i guess he's good for a newbie, but i got nothing out of him. and i was surprised at how small the area of the show was. i was expecting a lot more and a lot bigger. oh well..at least the kids got in free, but by monday, th trout in the pond were so lethargic. and the only was to catch one was by snagging which is what everyone seemed to be doing. hehe.

my bro made up a storage system for muskie lures. same milk crate, but he took a 4-5 inch diameter pvc pipe and cut several pieces to the height of the crate and created a sort of 'honeycomb' like thing, and he used adhesive to glue them together. so you can always take out the pvc pieces and clean out the bottom of the crate. oh and he put a piece of screen mesh on the bottom so nothing falls through. here's a pic

my bro recently got two cardiffs on ebay and they look a bit cheap in their craftmanship. too much of that plasticky graphite and not enough aluminum. i'd go w/ a used calcutta any day.

Anyone know who makes browning spinning reels? i swear, when i look at the handle and the bail, it looks a lot like the daiwa's air bail. but since they are cheaper than the daiwas i was thinking of getting one at the spring classic. any thoughts?

thanks for the inspiration and the pics. i used them to build my own for my 9.9 out of scrap i had saying around. mine looks almost the same, a little uglier since it was scrap wood. if i get the chance i'll post pics. thanks again.

as for where i do most of my fishing...i'm almost exclusively on balsam going usually for muskie or LMB or SMB. it's been a really fun lake to learn and i've only fished the northern half of it. it does get ugly when the wind picks up though. if the wind is really bad, then i just head out to little lake in barrie where it's always safe. not much of a walleye fisherman yet. and some ice fishing on cooks bay. btw, i love the forum.

yeah i know...i've read enough muskie boards to know what's coming. so i was hesitant to post the pic for fear of the comments already posted, but hey free speech right? Yeah, i know, a thousand pardons for the way he held the fish. the weight, i am absolutely certain it was at least 25lbs. i've caught a 19lb ski in balsam (my personal best) and it was noticeably smaller than my bros. also, my bro is 6'1" and 240-50lbs, depending on how much he ate that day, hehe. anyway, it was a great day, the water got real ugly and so we had to get off w/ my small boat and all. we went out again on Tuesday and saw a few more boats, but we struck out. A beautiful day to be on the water for October 30th!!

was out on balsam monday. we got on the water at 11 and the water/wind wasn't too bad. we arrive at our spot and w/in the first five casts, my bro had a muskie on. it was the biggest i've seen come out of this lake. it was 45 inches and i'm estimating at least 25 lbs. he/she was quickly measured and safely released.
