  1. Sometimes around here even my 28ft x 11ft 8000 lb boat gets waked by the bigger boats as they ply the legal buoy paths from the ocean to Washington D.C. Once a boat gets to be a certain size ( not trailer able) it is tough to jump on and off plane for boats that should not be on large bodies of water. I am referring to places were you can not see from shore to shore. I will come off plane for any boat that I will cause to be in distress by my actions but will also clue them in to how unsafe an environment they are playing in. This has nothing to do with the area you described and going on and off plane is expected and should be done.

  2. I see gar all of the time on southern georgian bay. Most of the time on a sunny day. The best method to catch these fish is actually with a piece or frayed rope securely on your hook. The Gars teeth will get caught in the rope and most of the time you can reel the fish in with no hook set at all.

While this is a good way to catch the gar please make sure you remove all of the material before releasing them otherwise they will starve to death.

Here is how it works here. She turns the key and the it starts,If it doesn't then I have to make sure it does or a different unit that starts had better be there the next day.Glad she doesn't mind commuting on the tractor once in a while.A little give and take is a good thing.Tough to bush hog with a Scion, rough commute in the rain on a New Holland.Just so ya knows.

It's a whole lot easier to push thru traffic on the New Holland though....

Many skilled english anglers use centre pin reels for carp and course fish. You rainbow guys picked it up from them.

Good information I didn't know that. I have never had a chance to use a centrepin.

I have used flyrods for catfish, A shimano 1000 for bonita, and currently use 9ft trolling rods for 50lb+ Blue cats. Using different equipment makes fishing interesting as long as you keep in mind that you shouldn't exhaust the fish if you are going to release them.

  5. I feel it is a fine chemical I have used for years with no ill effects and have even found it makes it easy to read after dark with the lovely green glow...

    QUOTED:

Like anything else, insect repellents work best when used properly.

ALWAYS FOLLOW LABEL DIRECTIONS - Labels are written based on scientific research and government regulations to ensure they are accurate and easy to understand.

What is the best way to apply DEET-based insect repellents?

    Do

    · Apply to all exposed skin areas and/or clothing as directed on the product label. Use aerosols and pump sprays for skin and for treating clothing. These products provide even application.

    · Use liquids, creams, lotions, towelettes or sticks to apply more precisely to exposed skin.

    · After your outdoor activity, wash repellent-treated skin with

    soap and water.

    · Always keep insect repellents out of the reach of children. Adults should apply repellent on younger children.

    · Consult with a physician or nurse in case of a rash or other adverse reaction, after first washing off the skin where a repellent was applied.

    Don't

    · Don't apply to eyes, lips or mouth or over cuts, wounds or irritated skin.

    · Don't over apply or saturate skin or clothing.

    · Don't apply to skin under clothing.

    · Don't apply more frequently than directed on the product label.

  6. Over the years I've had both Eagle and Lowrance fish finders. Excellent units. Sadly they fell behind others like Humminbird. The cone angle of most Eagle/Lowrance units until only recently had been 20 degrees. For a shallow water fisherman this isn't very efficient. In ten feet of water you are viewing only a 3 foot circle on the bottom. Basically 1/3 of your depth. Humminbird and Garmin have been using dual beam (20/60 degrees)technology for several years. In 10 feet of water you are viewing a 10' circle on the bottom. The area you view is equal to your depth.

The majority of my fishing is in less than 50' of water so the greater the coverage the better. Not only for finding fish but more importantly, structure. I jumped ship and my last purchase was a Humminbird. The difference is like night and day.

Now that Ealge/Lowrance products incorporate dual beam technology I will probably go back when I need a new one. Love to see one of the new HD units in action.

I think you will be back as soon as you see the HD series. It has a 120 degree beam now which works well when you are looking at the world below. I did miss the 20 degree transducers when I was looking for bottom structure though they are still the best for following underwater ridges and fast changing bottoms. I then added the LSS-1 unit to the unit and since it works on the 800/455 khz and is a flat beam and not a cone it has shown me an entirely different world below.I learned that the unit used in the lss-1 mode paints a picture that is as clear as an xray of what is going on below you.

  7. Hahaha..how do you hook them, through the tail, or lip? I always wondered about that.

Thru the lip that way you can get your bait back... While the bait is only $100.00 each the cost of the livewell I built for them was the big expense.
