  1. Thanks again...I guess if it's still running rough, I'll spray some of that stuff somewhere in the vicinity of the carb!! good luck to me Where do I buy Amsoil? I bought the blend stuff..made by Johnson.. is that any good? so should I expect better mileage too? it sucks gas now like a little pig
  2. I'm off to a cottage rental tomorrow very close to Sandbanks (salmon Pt road). I am bringing my 14'. I was hoping to get into some fishing.. I know west and east lakes are ok.. I think west is better.. what about Athol Bay? I hear there are brown trout stocked there too? If I'm targetting West Lake, what general areas should I zero in on? Hope to post some results! thanks p.s. can anyone recommend a marina/bait shop in the area? I think Wellington has a reputable one, if I'm not mistaken..
  3. I am going to the Sandbanks area...so Lindsay would sort of be on the way...dsort of.. but quite a ways off the highway why do you ask?
  4. Hi folks, I bought new plugs today for an older 18HP evinrude (60's model). Should I clean out the cylinders before I put the new ones in? If so, with what? The engine has been great, always starts, but I've trolled alot lately and I think it's carbing up. It wasn;t running atfull speed last time out and it didn't sound quite right... a little rough and hesitant. Someone in another post gave been instructions on de-carbing but I don't have the time nor the items to perform this as we are leaving for a cottage tomorrow AM. So, the fellow at the marine dealer advised me to use an Evinrude-Johnson product called "Carburetor and Choke cleaner". He said to spray it into the carb while motor is running. I don't exactly know where I should spray it after looking at my motor with the coweling off. Any help would be appreciated! thanks in advance
  5. U sure about that?? I've heard otherwise... Also, that doesn't look like the T.O. ferry docks or anything around the islands..and I know that areas really well I heard it was either Poland or france, or soemthing like that I think the world record pike came out of french waters... monde dieu
  6. I just bought new plugs. They didn;t have the NGK's so I wnt with the Champions, which is apparently the equivelent. I also bought Evinrude-Johnson 'Carburetor and Choke cleaner' - they guy I bought it off (Leasure Marine) said it wouldn;t hurt to spray some of this product onto the carburetor while the motor is running. Where exactly do I spray it (it has the extension straw)? I know the carb is at the rear of the motor. It has two smallish ports or holes. Should I spray some right into the holes? And should I clean out the vales with something before I I put in the new plugs? I also bought some sythetic blend motor oil designed for two strokes. Hopefully, this will keep it cleaner with fewer fumes.
  7. that's been circulating for a year or two now... i think it's from europe
  8. ok, but one is only about a month old! Should I just replae both or the older one? Is there anything else I can do to clean it up? thanks fior the help!!
  9. On eplug is new, the othr was left over from when I bought it this spring.. Should I pull em out and clean them somehow, rrplace the older one or something else? I'm assumming you can buy Seafoam at any marine dealer? What do I do with it? thanks a lot!!
  10. Nice morining out on Lake O today. Launched out of Ashbridges and worked mostly the outdside of the drop in 200' + Not a bad day with 5 salmon in 3 hours, biggest 25lb. One came off the leadcore line on a black and green spoon and the rest on cutbait behind aspindoctor. Best depth was 85 over 205'. My 18ho evinrude was acting up a little. It's an older motor and I think all the trolling I've done might be affecting it. It just seemed a little bogged down today on the way back to shore. I couldn't get up to the usual spped and it seemed like it was labouring. I did mix a bit too much oil last time I fille dit up so maybe that's the issue? It seemed to troll ok today overall. any ideas?
  11. Scarborough gets a really bad rap, but there are a lot of nice areas...moist of scarborough is ust like any other place.. but there are a few intersections where most of the problems happen, unfotunately.. that beach, believe it or not, is usually perfectly safe to swim... most people don;t know it, but Toronto has some very fine beaches.. anyone every been to Gibraltar Beach on Toronto Island? It's a gorgeous spot, and the water is clear as any beach I've been too! It's also been classified a "Blue Flag" beach... Anyhow, I've always liked the Bluffs...nice pics!
  12. thanks for the help, folks... I may end up getting a better unit next season... it was on there already so I thought I'd at least give it a chance.
  13. Still, it should mark bait balls... i had a cheapo model years a go that did so...i'm surprised. I think i either have it set wrong or there soemthing wrong with it thanks
  14. Hi gang, this finder came with the boat I bought in June...It seems ok in shallow bass/walleye lakes, but when I went salmon fishing a few times, I don;t think it worked properly.. I marked zilch ever time..usually there at least some 'noise' if not some baitfish balls. Its the "Wide-eye" model but not sure exactly which one. I set it to 'narrow' instead of 'wide' and I've fiddled with the sensitivity and various other options. Any clues? thanks!
  15. once oil and other commodities return to normal, Calgary will go bust again just like it did 25 or so years ago ontario's economy, especially the gta, is far more diversified and less suseptible to fluctutions in commodities like oil. we have a far more diversified fishery as well!! vive l'ontario libre!
  16. thanks fellas... as for the manual, i will contact you rick... i still haven;t made a decision on it
  17. the 30 degree temps are inaccurate.. overcast days will screw up the readings the temps are now mostly in the 60's across the lake - but it can change very quickly on that lake
  18. why would it be earlier? the run, as in almost every year, begins in Sept, peaks in Oct and trickles in Nov the odd chinny enters into streams in aug GB chinnies are ealier - late July to Sept the salmon are actually behind this year... it was -5 in april and it's been very cool this month...may actually be a bit later!
  19. Lots of great info here... thus far I've only changed plugs and lower unit oil on my previous motors, thus I'm a little apprehensive about taking on all the other steps...i'm sure it's easier than it sounds! I want to learn how to do this stuff anyhow, so it might be good practice! Will the manual instruct me on all these steps? I guess eBay should have such manuals but can they be purchased elsewhere? by the way, where do I get Sea Foam and what type of 'penetrant' are we talking about? thanks a lot in advance!
  20. nice map...where diod you get that? I'd like to lookup some other lakes
  21. geez, that oo eh? i'll end up dropping $300 before its over... it's priced well now... i'll have to think about this. If it's running ok does that mean it could still require the above servicing? i guess the only way to know is get a mechanic to check it thanks for you help gentlemen...
  22. misfish, i'm not too far from barrie... and i'm looking for a good mecahnic. I am near BPS. I fish Innisfil on the odd occasion so let me know. Is he right in Barrie? Are those prices just for parts? thanks!
  23. 33hp tiller but also has the electric start option... coils eh? what would that cost to replace? what about carb?
  24. it's been cool enough nthat you might not need a rigger... it's a deep, cold lake.. decent SM but I think lakers aren;t that easy to come by... we rented there years ago...nice lake good luck
  25. I'm looking at a late 60's Johnson. The owner has had it most of its life so he's got all the history.. well maintained and in good physical shape. But, it hasn't run in 5 years... it ran well up to that point. I'm thinking the carb might need work. What else might go wrong with a motor that's sat that long? Could it be major work? Oil and plugs were changed every fall.. Any suggestions? I will ask him to get it runnig before I think of buying it for sure... Anyone familiar with this vintage? was it a good motor? Thanks folks!
