  1. i have yet to have good customer service experience at BP, nothing compared to sail anyway

as for the size of the fly, looks like a #12 hook size? i know some people will use a #34 dry fly

  2. The bad customer service and warranty isn't only with NRX, it's all gloomis. The warranty rep now contacts you directly instead of your local dealer. You can have the dealer ship it in but the warranty approval is case by case now.

Most likely the rep will call you and say the rod damage is not fishing related and charge you for repairs or offer a 1/2 price discount on a new rod.

which makes perfect sense, i mean you slam your rod in a car door and break it, or step on it, its breaks on user error, not at the fault of the company, its called saving money, and its not specific to loomis, a lot of major rod companieshave this warranty clause

  3. it's mostly the quality of the craftmanship since shimano took over and gary left...have heard complaints about the nrx's being poorly built...to each their own I guess, I've been happy with my loomis rods

warranty is also rumoured to have gone downhill, but my experiences with shimano customer service have been nothing short of excellent...they dropped the no fault warranty (aka the abuse the crap out of warranty program) and replaced iwth with a one time wildcard

i have been very happy with my nrx fly rod

  4. The belly didn't look slit open to me. There were many others as well... this one was by far the biggest.

I'll be gettin' back out there when I get my next day off... which is in like... 9 bloody days... It's definitely an interesting style of fishing. After I lost that much nicer sized trout, I'm gonna have to redeem myself.

i was just judging by the dark line down the centre of the belly just behind the gills from the picture

and you will redeem yourself, even if its not in the spring, theres the fall run to consider when they're much stronger fresh from the lake

  5. I've got a 4wt that I use for dries so this rod would mainly be for streamers.Didn't think about a line wallet, that's an idea.

I tested one of those today and was quite surprised, I wasn't expecting too much. I'm going to have to give it some consideration.

you would not be dissapointed thats for sure

  6. This late into the season? I dont think so. Looks like a sad drop back, that didnt make it.IMO.

Nice first there. I started the same. Happy as a gay man.

I improved this weekend. Getting bigger.

    Keep ater. Love the fly.

lots of fish still moving up and on the redds where i fish, plus lots waiting to come up, its a pretty fat belly to be a drop back

  7. for bass poppers and large streamers, i' recommend an 8wt, i have a g loomis nrx 8wt, have used almost exclusively for this years trout run, and haven't been disappointed

I also have a ross rx 6wt, for $350 its a great rod, i just found it a little light this year for some of the bigger fish i was hooking into.

check out the fly rod selection at sail, was just looking through their catalogue, they have some great prices on fly rods, sage, greys, hardy and st croix

as for a 5wt casting your 6wt line, don't worry, its fairly common practice to over weight your rod by 1wt of line to make casting easier, i have 8wt line on my 8wt rod and i find it more difficult to cast then my 6wt rod loaded with 7wt line

  8. nice go on the fly, the first is always the hardest, i got 2 on the weekend that were a lot smaller, not even half the size of yours

the second pic is a sad sight to see, as it looks like the belly was split, someone farming roe and letting the fish spoil

  9. Anybody that lets their dog run loose when people are fishing have the chance of getting the dog hooked. That person is a nimnob and daft, and it's not fair to the dog. My fish doesn't have to be on a leash but the dog does. And I let the dog owner know it must be leashed. That's what I really want, dog spit and drool all over my tackle box. I have heard and seen a dog sniff away at lurse in a box and got a hook in it's face, not a pretty scene.

just waiting for the day when some dog gets in the way of my back cast

  10. Get it man, a nice easy smoke is pork ribs, find a butcher , and not a oh-la-la fancy one. One with cows and pigs hanging around in the back. Make friends with your new butcher I even.buy mine a Christmas gift. Hell of a lot cheaper than a grocery store...I know someone on here has been to dipietros in Cambridge, Anyways back to the ribs you can fit 3 racks on that smoker no problem find a recipie and light her up..they will take about six hours at 300. Be patient while learning your new craft it's part science part vodo magic . Always leave the chimney all the way open, And last but not least make shure you burn in your new smoker before you cook an food in it. I'm doing some brisket this weekend I will post up some pics for ya.
