I don't fish for carp with a hair rig, so what would be the best way to hook them. Thinking of just using steelhead hooks and hide the hook in the boilie.

i would highly recommend you to use a hair rig... they aren't that hard to tie ... the only times i have lost fish was because of poor knot/weak hook/dull hook (angler error)

if you do use it on a hook though, i would say hide most of the hook inside the bollie and leave a small section of the point open ... that way the carp would somewhat hook itself and give you a chance to get a better hookset before it spits everything back out ... i might be wrong ...

that is funny though lol ... maybe i should buy some skunk repellent and spray some on myself before i head out everytime (do they even exist?)

i've lost many fish because of a weak/bent/dull hook as well ...

lost a good sized one over the weekend when it straightened my hook ... i guess i applied alittle too much force with the pliers when unhooking another one caught earlier with the same hook :S ...

it seems like you guys never get skunked ...

man it's been too long since my bed time was 8pm .. that's a nice rod/reel combo she's got there

where did it break exactly bly? last weekend when i went out with my dad i had the same thing happen to me and ended up loosing 8-9 fish ... everytime we would fight the fish for about 4-5 seconds and reeling in realized that the line broke right above the eye of the hook.

i was using 10lb berkley vanish ... right at where i was fishing there shouldn't be too much problems with zebra mussles so i was blaming myself for not tying the hair rigs properly at first ... however after i've asked help from a guy nearby it still happened :S ... i'm planning on changing the line and see if it happens again ...

34" is a good sized fish ... you should ask wolfville how many times we got skunked trying to find them since last year

Make sure you bring ropes and lots of garbage bag to tie up garbages and uneaten food. The worst thing that could happen is have the raccoons eat all your food on the first night ... i've seen them during the day as well so be prepared.

Also bring some warm clothes, even though it's 30 degrees in the afternoon it can still get cool at night.

As far as fishing goes i have never tried there but tubes should be good with the smallmouth there.
