  1. Very nice, This thread inspired me to toss a giant storm thunderstack sun up to sun down on Sat. Lost one at the boat, didn't look anything like that beast tho.
  2. I have never used a Drift sock and wondered how it compares to dragging a light weight or something behind to slow your drift. Obliviously in really deep water it is an issues and maintaining a consistent speed would bei guess. This weekend I used a 5lb and 2.5 basic workout weight. and had so i could have ether one on or both with a snap. It worked way better then I expected. The electric could still move me around easily with it down and also helped me find green weeds lol.
  3. So, four of us went out, we caught 6 small to medium pike and 3 decent bass on Sat. I tossed a giant storm thunderstick sun raise to sun down. Lost one pretty decent Muskie at the boat, and one seemingly huge large mouth (on the giant thunder stick), didn't get a great look at it. The wind was pretty intense. Instead of fighting it I dragged a 2.5lb weight and a 5lb weight just a basic work out round weight.I had it rigged so i could snap each weight on and off or have both depending on the drift speed. I really liked how it worked and was still able to use my electric to control depth, Until it died. Pretty good trip, might head up during the week to fish some of the nicer weather.
  4. http://www.outdoorlife.com/articles/fishing/2010/10/fishing-fronts-how-storms-effect-fishing?page=0%2C1 was this The very best time to be on the water is during the drop in barometric pressure that occurs as a low-pressure system approaches. The intensity of the bite often increases as the pressure drops, occasionally right through to the end of the storm. The biggest storm systems are essentially dissipated tropical storms, often hurricanes, which move up through the center of the country and are then drawn eastward. When nor-easters (major coastal storms) blow into the New England region, they can bring with them two- or three-day stretches when the fish are literally hitting everything thrown at them. http://honestmusky.com/dont-beat-a-dead-horse/ During fall, steadily cooling water temperature is often better than long periods of stable water temperature. The cooling water seems to create a sense of urgency. The approach of winter makes them want to feed. There ya go.
  5. I have a nitro , not exactly made for big water. However I am on the Trent and it's pretty narrow. Couple of islands to hide behind as well. Fishing for water bites , pike and bass mainly. Also,I might not appreciate how intense 40km is.
  6. Ya, I know it's filled:) Hopefully some pics get posted
  7. I'm heading up with some friends this weekend to Hastings, the trip has been planned for months. They are thinking about turning it into a day because of cold, windy weather. I know i am always on here asking when to fish, where to fish, how to fish, and what to fish for, pretty much everything short of asking you guys to catch them for me. But, how do you guys think this weather sets up for fishing this weekend? And should we make it just a day trip,I don't really want to. I have been doing some reading, this sounds encouraging ;The very best time to be on the water is during the drop in barometric pressure that occurs as a low-pressure system approaches. 8. I would be all over this, if I hadn't planned a weekend of fishing with my friends. It's been in the works for months. Would I be a bad friend if I made up some crazy excuses why i can't go with them anymore?
  9. I think the point was that tournaments, have no benefits fishery and also harm it. But I am pretty neutral when it comes to this topic
  10. I am thinking about taking sometime off and heading up to the cottage to put some real work into figuring out these fall fish. So it looks like the next two weeks are in Hastings(trent river) are suppose to be very consistent with highs of 18-22 or so and lows between 10-13. Does this long stretch of consistent weather sound like prime time to go for certain species? Or perhaps I should wait for lower temps/ anything else. Thanks
  11. I've thought the same, and yes I know it's my fault. Just, thought it would be funny to post a muskie I caught on a tiny lure. I just hope the report doesn't have a 0 in it.
  12. I respect that he considers them his fish, and rigorously tries to protect them. I do think we need more people like that. I would just feel bitter as someone that tires to do right by the fishery compared to those I constantly see people blatantly hurt it. But, i do get that I would of been breaking the law and putting the fish to though extra stress. I really needed to have a photo lol And thanks it was a blast. It never took line until the first time i put my hand on it's tail(Forgot to pack my muskie net in the canoe). It did tow me around a fair bit, and I had an audience of 10-15 people from two separate cottages cheering me on. There was an audible ohh.. when it slapped me in the head with it's tail and knocked my hat into the water, I never measured it , but i think it would of been over 44?
  13. haha, I can say they certainly don't have that stamped on there anymore
  14. I have my sportsman licence or whatever it's called. I would be pretty disappointed if i was charge, being someone that practices catch and release and tries hard not to have a negative impact on the resource. The fish was caught on Balsam lake, not sure if the same restrictions apply. Anyways we are getting of topic. I just wanted to share how i got lucky with a little cleo and happened to catch a reasonably sized muskie
  15. Thanks, had to get a pic of it. I wouldn't keep any muskie 54" plus or not. Now if i caught one that I thought was a world record, I'd let it go even still I think.
  16. The CO wouldn't have a very large window to get me. And if they did question me I like to think they would understand what I was doing, but who knows.
  17. lol, I will clear my name very quickly. I caught it in a canoe, didn't feel safe trying to hold it and take a pic in the canoe, and had to get a pic. So i tied it up paddle to the closest dock 30 -40 yards away. Got out took my pictures, got it in the water revived it for a while, and off she swam.
