  1. Ya, I know it gets shallow really quick. That plus the current is why i tend to stay away. I will check that map out for sure, thanks.
  2. Thanks again, for the input mike. Tell you what if you are in the area i'll take you out, and don't worry my outboard works great:) Back on the water yet? When it comes to the Trent it's hard to find a spot that doesn't have weeds other then the main channel. I have tried trolling a bit at night, and found it pretty frustrating with all the weeds I pick up. I have tended to use a crank bait that runs in the 6-12 foot range. Maybe I need to try 2-4ft. I have caught a few in the past casting a weedless spoon at night. I have a couple spots in mind now,I'll also pull out the topo map and look for the deepest holes.
  3. So I went to the bay last night and hit the channel, and beat my PB small mouth three times!!! Well, that's what happened in my head before I left. I had one tiny nibble drop shootting, I think. There were a lot of fish jumping in the middle of the channel, most were really small, but a few seemed to be 2 pounds plus. Any ideas what they would of been?
  4. I am going to give it a try right now
  5. I might have the most experience, I fished it a lot last year while it was under construction. Wasted a lot of time lol, I 've never caught a fish in the channel, some good nights in the bay section though.
  6. I have tired drop shotting it a few times at night, no luck of course. It does seem like good structure, maybe fall is the time ?
  7. Fishing from shore,I just moved within walking distance of the bay. I found a few decent spots to catch large mouth and pike from shore. I've tried drop shotting the channel a few times at night with no luck. Not sure how deep the channel is, but it just seems like such a fishy spot to me. I feel like it should hold a little bit of everything depending on the time of year.
  8. Hey, Does anyone think fishing the channel leading out to the lake is worth while this time of year(small mouth)? And, am I crazy for thinking that it will hold walleye especially late oct early nov?
  9. a skunk won't spray in a fully enclosed spot
  10. I know the bridge this time of year has someone fishing off of it 24 hours a day. I'm not one to be timid, but I get pretty sketched out at night near the damn. How close are you talking? I've never taken my boat closer then the green marker that divides the calm lock water and the damn flow. I do like the sounds of that rig. Do you think the first big weed flat would be worth exploring, it's a 1 km or so away.
  11. thanks, knots where not the issue. I was worried about my rod snapping more then a few times.
  12. Hey all, I have a cottage one lock east of Rice on the Trent. I was curious how the fishing compares rice vs the river? I was also wondering, why I can barely catch anything from now until seasons end. I really like night fishing and have tried for pickerel, but almost always come up empty. I am curious if anyone knows that section and has any pointers. Should I target the channels weed edges, seek out the deepest water, etc? I always read fall is the time for giants bass, pike, muskie, and pickerel. I get excited every year, but tend to come up all but empty. The only luck I have really had is tossing large 7" plastic paddle tale and slow reeling it in on the slower side. Mostly pike, 8lb pickerel years ago. Maybe part of the problem is I don't narrow my focus, I try to toss baits i think every specious will hit. But ya,I think its really about time i stepped up my fishing game. All input is very much appreciated, thanks.
  13. The more I think about it, the more I realize that I am really jealous lol
  14. It would be nice if people were happy for you and not seemingly petty and jealous, but sadly that's not case with certain small minded people. What if I am happy for you and jealous all at the same time ???
  15. I am a little over the senko/ wacky rig myself, mainly because I see everyone using it.Bass must be getting use to it right? I find I don't catch nearly as many large bass on it 4lb plus as I use to. Anyways I've always double hooked my wacky rigged senkos. I can catch 5 plus bass per worm all the time this way. I also move the hook along the worm when it gets to worn in one spot.
  16. So the weekend is over, and my biggest bass was about 1.5 pounds. I didn't fish nearly as much as I was planning. I find it very hard balancing family time with fishing time. I caught maybe 30 or so bass total, mostly drop shotting. I don't drop shot much as my home lake is shallow and really weedy. But, I found it really frustrating as I was breaking off seemingly none stop. I was using a 1/0 hook, and in the end went a size down to reduce sangs. The break off at the hook almost every time. I don't know if i was fishing it to slow, setting into rocks way more then I should of been.. etc. I feel a little bit defeated when it comes to late summer/ fall fishing at the moment, but as I am writing this I want to race back out on the water. If anyone who really knows their stuff, wanted to show me a thing or two i'd have to jump at the chance. I would obviously pay for gas, lunch etc Pretty much the rules of the road gas, ass or grass. Family Cottage is on the Trent one lock east of rice.
  17. Good tip, thanks. I should of tired up sizing a little more i think.
  18. Not at night lol...Ya both would be good, I am trying to convince the girlfriend to let me make a stop at basspro on the way.
  19. Thanks, the problem will be knowing if I'm in 40 ft or 100 lol. I might bring a 50ft piece of rope out with me and a to get an idea.
  20. Lots of deep water and my depth finder came back broken after I lent ti to a find :S thanks for the tips.
  21. Thanks, for the info. I will keep that in mind and hopefully have some pics to post
  22. Hey all I am heading to my girlfriends cottage lake and I was thinking night fishing might be the way to go. It is a clear deep lake. I've been once before and I must of caught 50/60 bass in one morning, problem was that only three where over a pound. I plan on fishing pretty hard this long weekend by canoe. I have a topo map that i am going to try and attach, with two spots I want to focus on. The first is an island towards the west end where i am staying, it's almost in the middle of the lake and moves down towards a 100 ft relatively quick. That island is the only spot on the lake i have see any real kind of weed growth. If any one knows where other weeds beds are i'd wouldn't mind you sharing. The Second spot Is where I am planing on focusing a lot of my night efforts on, i haven't fished there before. it's an Island chain on the south end of the lake. Seems to be a large 5ft flat connecting the chain. I was thinking that large flat would be a good feeding ground for the bass at night. Any thoughts or tips would be greatly appreciated. well I can't figure out how to up load the map. but, if anyone is especially keen to help, I found it at www.anglersatlas.com Mississauga lake of course pretty handy free site.
