  1. Nice laker! We'll have to get out for another BOQ walleye Cheers
  2. Hey, I remember that picture! I think of chemong rick, everytime I launch from Dutch (couple times a month). Welcome back Garry! Quick question for ya, should I buy a left hand baitcaster, or right handed?
  3. Anybody know the results? I fished it, but couldn't stick around for the dinner, and results were held secret until the dinner presention. I figure we were mid-pack, with a little over 13 lbs. We should have weighed in 15+ lbs as we had about 1.5 hrs to cull the one dink in our livewell, but to no avail. Great event, and I had a fantastic day. My pro was exactly that, a pro. I look forward to fishing with him again. Can't wait for another pro/am. I would highly recommend it, good times. Thanks, pooch
  4. If you are talking oak lake north of Havelock, the owner of Leisure cottages has a very primitive map that he'd probably pass on to you. He may also tell you a few hot spots to try. Good bass lake, and I hear good for walleye too, no luck for eyes when I fished there once last fall. Good luck!
  5. Internet! Is that thing still around?
  6. Great info guys, very helpful. Most of the info you guys are talking about backs up what the dealer is saying. When I originally started looking for a boat, I just assumed I would put a 4 stroke on it. I was very surprised when the dealer explained an opti has BETTER gas consumption than the merc 4 stroke. 2 stroke technology is indeed improving rapidly. I wanted to read all the replies on a straight up comparison, truth is I am a caster foremost and troller a distant second. From May-October I'm casting 90% of the time. I will also be in about a dozen fishing tournaments this year, no trolling there either. I troll for eyes on the BOQ at the end of the season, but don't think I should buy a motor just for that. A kicker is not really an option on this boat. I'd probably struggle with sock or trolling plate to slow the boat down for an occasional trolling outing. Can you switch up props to slow down an opti? Would that screw up the WOT operation, I'm thinking it would. Quietness is a great feature, that's for sure. I'll have to think more about that benefit.
  7. Too bad that info is gonzo. I'm sure a few OFNrs will pipe in shortly. Nice boat purchase BTW. I noticed that info in the other merc thread. That's a whole lotta boat. Quick update for ya -> I'm in the middle of flight school these days, enjoying it a lot. We learned how to use the fwiz wheel last week, and METARs TAFs the week before. good times, Still waiting to get airborn, but that is coming soon enough. We'll have to get together in the Kawartas to discuss the finer points of flying and fishing this year. Cheers
  8. On a 17'6" Triton Opti Pros: - faster top-end by 3-5 mph - better hole shot - lighter - $1,000 cheaper Four Stroke Pros: - better for trolling - quieter operation - no need for premix - no smoke I've been told fuel consumption for each are equivalent. If you add costs for premix then the opti will cost more to run in long run. Thoughts? Thanks, pooch
  9. I have put off an overhaul on my trailer for a few years, but it's at the point it must be done this spring. Going to get started this week, and found a decent checklist to guide my work. If you any more insight/items to add, please do so. Thanks, pooch 1. Lights: Test the trailer’s lights. If one doesn’t work, check the bulb, socket and the connector plug before you direct attention to the wiring system. 2. Load Guides: Check the condition of loading guides. Some are designed to revolve freely and may require lubrication, while board-type guides may need re-carpeting. 3. Brakes: If so equipped, inspect the brakes and breakaway system, and adjust to the specs listed in the owner’s manual. Top off the fluid level and check for contamination. Service the brakes as needed. 4. Suspension: Inspect your trailer’s suspension. Look for cracks in the leaf springs or excessive rust anywhere — especially on hangers, bushings and bolts. If in doubt, replace the hardware. 5. Wheel Bearings: Inspect and, if needed, lubricate, repack or replace trailer wheel bearings. Make sure the spindle nut is tight, and top off bearing protectors with the proper lubricant. Don’t overfill, however, or you risk blowing out a rear seal. 6. Tires: Take a close look at the tires (including that all-important spare) checking for lumps, cracks, or excessive or uneven tread wear. Replace any questionable rim or tire, and top off each with the manufacturer’s recommended maximum cold inflation pressure. 7. Bunks & Rollers: Make sure that bunks and/or rollers are supporting the hull as evenly as possible and that all rollers are turning freely. You may have to float the boat off the trailer to lubricate or service rollers, and recarpet or replace worn bunks and hardware. 8. Corrosion: Look for signs of rust along the frame, fenders and axles, and correct small problems before they become big problems. 9. Bow Stop & Winch: Inspect the bow stop, winch and tongue jack. The bow stop and jack should both be secure and the hardware in good shape. Test the winch brake to make sure it engages easily and is able to hold its own. Lubricate the winch and jack per the manufacturers’ recommendations. 10. Winch Strap: Check the winch strap or cable, safety chains and transom tie downs for wear or corrosion. Check the entire length of the strap, and replace it if it’s frayed or worn, paying extra attention to where it attaches to the bow hook. 11. Coupler & Hitch: Test the hitch coupler/brake actuator to make sure the coupler latches tightly onto the hitch ball. Adjust or replace it if it doesn’t, because this is one connection you don’t want problems with. www.trailerboats.com
  10. My fishing partner for tomorrow cancelled last minute. I was a planning on fishing out of beaverton tomorrow, but I can change that to anywhere within an hour or two of Peterborough. Anyone heading out?
  11. Anyone ever been to Kipawa Lake or Deer Horn Lodge? Nelly, if you are also looking, here are a few more lodges to add to your list: http://www.bushcountrycamp.com http://www.chaletsduhuard.com http://www.duenorth.net/corbeau -> TJQ may be able to provide feedback??? http://www.ogascanan.com http://www.sasseginaga.com
  12. Guys appeciate all the great info Keep it coming. I'm hoping if I do all the work, maybe he'll bring me along ;-)
  13. I am posting for a friend of mine. He's looking for a drive-to fishing destination in Western Quebec. He will be going with his father in-law, and a few brothers end of June this year (6 of them in total). They need meal plans, and are going for 3 nights 4 days. Walleye and Pike is what they are after. If you are an operator, or have been to a lodge/resort/camp in western quebec and have any info to provide, that would be appreciated. Thanks!
  14. Seems 2 of 3 stations out of gas in Peterborough this evening. Any idea when they will be back to normal?
  15. Any advice on cleaning frozen panfish? Guessing I should thaw them first.
  16. GPS City has great prices on software too, no PST either.
  17. 3 weeks of winter, I'll take that!
  18. 3 weeks of winter, I'll take that!
  19. Got on the ice for a couple hours today. There were a few people out there, but they were huddled up in their huts so I didn't see a whole lot of action. I was fishing a large lake 45 minutes north of Peterborough. I was targeting perch, using small spoons tipped with power bait grubs and such. This combo has worked so far this year, keeps me from getting skunked but just barely. Next time I'll be sure to get some live bait. Cut about 20 holes in all, ice was a weak 8 inches in some areas, solid 12+ in others. Glad I didn't drive onto the lake, as per usual this time of the year. Had a few hits, only landed one. It came in the first 30 minutes, in 20 FOW about 6 ft from bottom. Solid strike. Jig came out as the head of this guy pops into the hole. Luckily he couldn't figure out how to turn himself around. Iced it, as I thought I might get another couple. Nope. Was a great way to pass the time on a Friday afternoon. Good luck to those going out this weekend. Cheers, pooch
  20. Thanks guys, no answer (just machines) at the above listed numbers. May try a pet store around the corner from me. Lew, I was surprised like you when that little store closed down. 2 Canadian Tires, and a Walmart were too tough to compete with is my guess.
  21. $425 (no tax Le Baron booth) for a Mustand Integrity Floater $30 for a ice fishing sled $32 for a Left side Off Shore planer board $4 Slice of pizza No super deals, but needed all that stuff and was nice to spread $ around instead of my regular monthly payments to BPS. Good time.
  22. I can't seem to find even dew worms. I'd prefer maggots or something small. Power baits are working, but only just. Anyone know of a live-bait dealer in the Peterborough area that has supplies?
  23. I'd also recomend the Normark Fin Bore III. It has the offset handle. Sounds like 6" model is all you'll need.
  24. You would be wise to get a rod, reel and terminal tackle that can handle casting musky lures and fighting a big fish. Plus high quality release tools are needed. A whole other discussion...
