I keep mine in the livewell 'til I get home , let's say it's a walleye... I feel for the second vertebrae with my thumb and turn it's head upwards toward the back and...[ according to Pete on Fish'n Canada] instant death .... it works pretty good.

Trout usually die on the way home so I've learned to put `em on ice before leaving for home.

Pike = knife to the head.

  2. he Sturgeon River is a 177 kilometers (110 mi) long river that springs near Lady Evelyn-Smoothwater Provincial Park in the Timiskaming District in Ontario, Canada. It flows in a south-easterly direction through Sudbury and Nipissing Districts before it empties at the north shore of and into Lake Nipissing. The town of Sturgeon Falls is located on the river about 3 km north of its mouth.

  3. you may catch and keep on the upper Sturgeon ....I have tried to Intentionally catch them but to no avail..100 + miles of river and 1000's of spots and damned if i can find a Sturgeon.

I know of an old fart that catches them regularly ...no big ones his personal best is 74lbs..

he's been fishing the upper Sturgeon now for more than 50 yrs.

He's told me how to do it...I've tried... but failed... but will try again.

In my opinion Sturgeon shouldn't be kept....Sturgeon Falls WAS the WORLD CAVIAR CAPITAL

, we even beat Bakail Russia for the title from 1981 to 1989... and were we ever proud to hold the title. But overharvesting and lack of education about the reproductive cycles of Sturgeon almost led to their demise.. It is now illegal to fish for them in the upper French River and lake Nipissing and yes the lower Sturgeon River too..

I catch 2 or 3 per year ...some about 60 lbs or so... they go right back in.

Most times I cut the line free and do not even handle them... until I'm sure it's not a monster muskie I don't cut them off.

The M.N.R is on the Sturgeon River studying the species and lay nets down ... to count and tag them..last year they caught a 126lb specimen... the Biologist told me that the numbers are looking good....whatever that means.

I have eaten some before steaks and caviar cooked in many ways...there are better fish to eat.

  5. First find a level spot(hint driveway) Get two jackstands. Let the front of the trailer down as low as it will go. Place the jackstands under jackplate, might need a timber or two to get high enough to support it. Make sure they are far enough apart so the boat will not rock. Then crank up the front jack as high as it will go. Should raise back of boat off trailer. Now you need two saw-horses and a long timber(6"X6"Xwider than outside of trailer)capable of supporting the boat.Place saw-horses with timber across and under the eyelet in bow(to keep from sliding)and use a piece of good carpet between boat and timber. Cut a small V-notch to get closer to boat. Now lower the front until everything is clear. Then just pull trailer out from under boat and do your work. Then reverse process. Only takes 20minutes to get boat off trailer and same time to put it back. Also lets you look at underside of boat while suspended there.

or you could hire this guy... :thumbsup_anim:

  6. Jack the boat's ass off the trailer..now put the boat's stern on a block...remove the jacks..

have two buddies present for this next step..

lift the tongue of the trailer as high as you can and then have your buddies grab the BOW ...

lower the trailer and pull it out from under the boat...

then run over and help your buddies set the BOW on another block or jackstand.

We did it just last week with a 1998 16 princecraft with a 60 Evinrude on the back...there were four of us.

  7. Net Lake Just north of Temag. has 7" was there last weekend for Pike.. your right Temag has very thin ice...Ti-Guy said that there's no more than 6" at the Government Dock..too much snow.

Some guys have gone in from Red Squirrel Road into Sandy Inlet and crossed safely on 7'' dead center and 10'' near shore

The same is happening on Nip. right now... already not looking good for crossing with the trucks... too much snow...

Most little lakes up here have 8'' 10'' ..

  8. In 1996 I bought a new Mach 1 AND PAID 86$ A YEAR FULLY LOADED.

I sold the MACH in '01 and bought a 1994 Safari Rally 503 2up for fishing.. in 2002

    I paid 202.26$ for 03-04 and in 05-06 I paid 243.60$ ... I have since sold it.

Imagine that ..Arctic Cat is thinking of introducing the 1500cc 240 hp supercharged V6 that

they put in their PWC ....In a sled...!!!! STUPID!!! It'll be uninsurable ...

I remember when If you had a Blizzard 9700 ... you were crazy ! it was a 521cc

nowadays if you don't have at least a 600cc you can't keep up.. dang crazy.

Who remembers when the Big Red 250cc Shaft Drive withe Reverse was the best ATV around

now BRP & Cat have or soon to have a 1000 cc ATV..????

People want power ... power needs to be insured ... insurance & CC's cost money....must pay to play...apparently more dangerous..sorry to say ... they have us by the nutsack.

    Who's making the cash now???

    We're getting ripped off!

  9. I had read that info from an old fishin mag that was in a cottage ...Hey TJ can rabbits swim ?

Yhea that cottage...anyway it was an old Field & Stream from 1972 that had an article on how to

tell the difference from a Blue Walleye a Sauger and a Yellow Walleye...like the Sauger the Blue had no spot on the tail.. I guess they were still fishable back then.

I've caught both color Walleye from the same spot as well...most lakes and rivers have a variation

apparently the Walleye who live in clay bottoms are of a different color than their buddies who

live in the rockpile 20 yards away..

And then you can go to the other end of the spectrum and say a White Walleye... off the same spots Walleye that have barely any color at all.

I don't want to discredit anybody..... I want to believe..
