  1. I've never hung food in the trees nor have I made any special effort to prevent an encounter with a

bear...as far as i go is to move my food away from camp .

While i lived in Revelstoke B.C '92-93...I became a statistic..

I was working for a Brushing company.. using a tool called a Whacker .. kinda like a golf club with a 10" blade... anyway,

I was in the Kootnay mountains and heard a SNORT behind me ... It was a 150-180lb Black Bear..20 feet away and coming closer.

I had taken the "Be Bear Aware" program that lasts 3 days..just a week earlier

I was fully aware of what i should do, no eye contact, be very loud and make yourself look as big as possible....and DO NOT RUN!!

Well!! that went right out the window I turned and SPEEDWALKED away and in a second

the bear swatted my right butt cheek and i fell face first into some ferns and rolled over onto my back

hoping to kick at the bear ,,, IT WORKED..it stopped it from coming over my legs ....

and now to answer two questions that were asked on previous posts....

My boss was up the hill 60 or so yards away and with him was his DOG a Doberman Pinscher..

and in my bosses hand was a... AIR HORN... that i credit to probably saving my life..

as soon as the dog barked and the horn went off the bear was off like a shot!

I got away with a trip to the hospital in Revelstoke :stretcher:

I was in there for a whole 35 minutes... I have 4 slashes on my butt ..now look like stretch marks

and a puncture wound on my shin..

My concencus in this little encounter is that I was at the right place at the wrong time.. I assume that he did,nt see me and when he did he was beyond the point of no return....fight or flight response ,, he chose fight.

After all of this I have gained more respect for the bears...but am not fearful.

I now own an airhorn and it sleeps in the tent with me....

A cap gun is always worn by my wife when blueberry picking :canadian:

  2. WWWWOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHHHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!! :clapping::clapping::Gonefishing::thumbsup_anim:

    HELL YHEA!!!

I'm so dang' anxious...just got a new Jiffy 10"...new to me 1 season old for 100.00$

I'm usually the ice tester out on the little lakes for specs and splake....

Gonna put my hut out on Nipissing before opening hopefully if we have a normal winter...?

or i'll go out in the boat ON JANUARY 1ST LIKE LAST YEAR..

can't wait to cross nip in the truck with the family.

  3. EH!

It all depends on what you are doing.. Let's say i'm bogging with the expedition or i'm towing my boat into a remote lake with a rough road under 20kph.. I'm in 1st..4x4 hi gear.... same situation where there is a possibility of slipping or getting stuck 1st gear is too prime.. too low easyer to spin..so I use 2nd ..can send more power to the wheels without slipping. very often if you get into a situation like this in drive or overdrive ...you'll give it a shot of gas to get out and the tranny will kick down into first and you'll spin and get stuck or slip.

force of habit for me I use 1st to pull my boat out of the water ..

same as a standard ...pick the gear that's most useful to you at the time...

just don't go down the highway doing speed limit in 2nd you'll cause more than tranny damage.

150.000 k's i've had my truck since it had 13.000k's and have been doing this very very often..

I'm always in the bush using the 4x4 ..3 or more times a week and have had no problems with my tranny..

  4. :asshat: YES IT WAS KEPT!!!

would you want an invasive .. non native species introduced in your fishing hole?

who know what kind of damage this could do to Nips ecosystem???

I would'nt care if it were out of season{ yes i did say that } ... that fish WAS NOT going back into the water.. If we catch another it will be treated as a GOBY or A RUSTY CRAYFISH.

In anyother circomstance I abide by the regs to the letter...but in this case screw the regs.

I've talked to my C/O buddies Rick N and Bill C. and they agree with me....

p.s.. that fish was given to Richard a Biologist at the MNR office in North Bay for examination...

  5. NO This was'nt bought at A&P..

Once every 15 years or so a Salmon is caught in downtown Sturgeon Falls.. now keep in mind that

the Sturgeon River is the largest tributary to Lake Nipissing .. and so on to the French River and down to Georgian Bay..this Salmon travelled on hell of a ways to get here... they say Salmon return to their

place of birth.. do you think that he was born here?

This specimen weighed in at 9 1/2 lbs, and was caught in 2 feet of water using a rapala ..in Downtown

    Sturgeon Falls..

My buddy the lucky angler did'nt want his face made public...

There are yearly reports of Native Netters Catching them in their nets... they also catch Rainbow and

even the odd Laker and Spec.

There is'nt a fishable resource in the lake for such fish..but maybe someday there will be one..

  6. Three nuns dressed in their habits were at The Air Canada Center watching the Leafs in action..

Three men sitting behind them had to peer over their Habits to see any of the game..

first guy says...I'll move to South Dakota just to watch an amateur game there are only 100 nuns there..

second guy says... I'll move to Iowa I hear there are only 50 nuns there..

third guy says... I'd move to the North Pole .. they say that there are only 10 nuns there.

    ...Just then one of the Nuns turns around and says;

WHY DON"T ALL THREE OF YOU MOVE TO HELL THERE ARE NO NUNS THERE !!!

  7. Three guys in a tower ....Mike , Larry , and Ed..

Ed falls to his death. :stretcher:

Larry tells Mike ; You should go and tell Ed's wife she's a widow..

    two hours later....

Larry sees Mike coming back to the tower carrying a case of beer..Larry comes down..

Eh Mike! where'd ya get the case of beer?

Mike says; well i got to Ed's place , knocked on the door ,, Ed's wife answered the door , and I said Are you Ed's widow?

She said; I'm not a widow!!

    I said ; I'll bet you a case of beer !

    :canadian:

  8. I suggest Callander area,, :Gonefishing: Fish in Callander Bay on Lake Nipissing ..If we have a normal winter you should be able to drive out onto the lake opening day . January 1st or anytime there after.

Many of the lodges offer an ICE BUNGALOW for a reasonable rate.. That's right you sleep :sleeping_02: out on the ice in a little hut. :canadian: . actually very comphy....and pretty spacious.

I got this as a gift a few years ago ,,, I'm glad my wife loves me ..she sent me to sleep out on a lake in a hut in the middle of winter with a case of beer and some minnows..... :worthy::worthy:

  9. ;) if the super glue does'nt work.. probably will [ it worked on the storage compartment in my boat]

    .

Go to an autoparts shop that sells Blue Streak { this the only manufacturer that makes this switch other than the OE} Benson' Auto Parts, Auto Parts Extra , sell Blue Streak have them order part #

US280L .. lock cylinder and key .. a realitavely easy job to do.. swap the parts yourself.

out the door should cost you no more than 79.99 --85.00 plus taxes.

go to the wreckers for about 50.00$

I sell parts for a living ... I run into problems like yours regularly.

  10. I'M NOT POKING THE HORNETS NEST ....

with the technology of today a cell phone can go a long way in court... it can take a picture ..

film a videoclip... serve as proof to time and date ... has a trackable signal ... and better yet can be used as phone to call for help or to REPORT A POACHER .. :thumbsup_anim:

I reasoned with a few out of town poachers this spring... i explained to them that this was my hometown water and that fishing was closed...if it would have been open i would be fishing right beside them...and that the regs book was in plain view sitting on a tackle box...it was a sanctuary :wallbash: .

they had a cage full of fish from walleye ,white bass, catfish , and some suckers...

I was called a , Trailer Trash Redneck and was told to go get myself a fresh bag of CRACK..and was i gonna pay for their gas back to Oakville <_< .and to leave them the F alone.. so I did for about 10 minutes I then came back with my freind Rick he's the local C/O...

In the meantime i told Rick what had just happened... he proceeded to lay 3 charges per person..them told them politely that they would have to pay their own gas to and from Oakville because they now had a court date... :clapping:

took their gear and fish and put it in the box of his truck. :clapping: :

I then received a Handskake and a MNR keychain.. not to mention the satisfaction of having made a little dent in the poacher population :stretcher:
