  1. Carry a set of booster cables long enough to get from the trolling motor batteries to the starter battery. You may just have enough juice at the end of the day to start the main motor to get you home if the starter battery fails. Or get a boost from another boat. Test your batteries regularly to make sure they are holding a charge. If not holding a charge then replace them.

  2. WOW! Now that's a story we don't want to be reading here too often, if every again. Hopefully it's an eye opener for a few of us here as Wayne's story was too. Very happy to hear it ended well. You should add your "top 11 points" to the Safe boating and fishing tips. Some good stuff there.

This spring I got my VHF license and feel it was money and time well spent. I've just got a handheld unit myself but will be looking into a fixed mount unit with DSC (Digital Selective Calling) after reading this. In a situation where you are drifting around and unable to anchor, the VHF radio when tied in with your GPS gives the coast guard your location at all times. Something to look for when buying a unit. I think all the newer units have it.

Once again, glad there was a happy ending.

  3. Congrats Cliff! Nice way to finish off your birthday I'd say. Now will you move the heck out of the way so Bly can get one!!! :P:D Should we start taking bets on how long your "hitting" streak will continue? ;) 4 for 4. Very nice. :thumbsup_anim::clapping:

danw - I like your idea for the days of the week. lol.

OK - Now I can go to bed. Good night all!

  4. Well the tables were turned tonight. I smoked them on the weekend and they smoked me tonight. What a treat to see you two get those beauties!! I was perfectly fine seeing Carole get that brown, biggest one I've seen up close and personal. Then Cliff couldn't be out done so he gets his 3rd salmon in 3 trips. UNBELIEVEABLE!!! Hats off to both of you! :clapping::thumbsup_anim:

This wasn't the only highlight of the night though. When I showed up Carole says "we have a present for you." I don't have a clue why they would even buy me anything or what it could be. :dunno: Cliff and I are digging through the tackle bag looking for the tape measure when what should I find but the hot bait from the weekend.

I chirp up and say "So you did go and clean out the store." <_< (Jokingly of course.) When I had gone the other night there was none of the hot colour left so I picked up some substitutes. B) Carole says "Nope. We saw that it was the last package and bought it for you. We also got you these hooks to go with them." Well it was a good thing it was dark because I'm sure I was looking like this.... I couldn't believe it. They said it was to replace the ones they used on the weekend.

Now I certainly wasn't worried about them using up a few plastics but this goes to show you what great people they are. THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!! Now let's go and use them up in a couple of weekends!!! :Gonefishing:

    Thanks again!!!

  5. Who is the good looking guy with the great hair do?! I'd leave the hat off any day to catch the numbers I had first thing in the morning. Great report as always Cliff. It certainly was a great day and was nice to be sharing the boat with you and Bly again. Don't be buying up all those baits now, I ran out of the secret colour by the end of the day and have got to get some more myself! LOL! Well I guess I can tell them the secret bait, it was the Vibra Bat lure!!! Who would have thunk it! :whistling::D

Thanks again for the great lunch Bly, it was awesome! :thumbsup_anim: We'll do it again it a couple of weeks.

BrickNblock - don't forget to give me a shout and we'll set something up.
