  1. Hey Cliff,

Get the tires off the ground and give them a spin, if it is quite your OK, if noisy you need to do the bearings. Also check the tire for any play in the wheel, try to twist the tire left to right, there should be no movement. If the trailer is sound and the lights are working, bearings are pretty easy to do but you don't want to be towing far if they are in rough shape. Lights can be a pain trying to trace down a problem. In the past I've just rewired the trailer, should be good for a few years after doing this. If the tires are cracking then replace them. Rust can be a problem depending on the age of the trailer. Find a galvanized one if you can, worth the extra money IMO. My next trailer will be galvanized. If it's a newer trailer with a bit of surface rust, shouldn't be a problem, just a bit of paint to make it look good and slow down the corrosion.

    Good Luck!

PS - If you need some help with repairs I can help you out if you need it.

  3. Yep, trolling big baits all day does burn out the arms. What I'll do is start off with a big bait like a 10" Jake or believer and when the arms get tried I'll go to something smaller for a bit and then back to the bigger bait. We had a day a couple of years ago where the 10" Jake hot. 2 boats, 4 guys, 8 muskies in about 6 hours of speed trolling (7-8mph) with the big baits. The arms were very sore at the end of that day but well worth it. ;)

  4. I was wondering who uses rod holders while trolling or not? Personally I have only started to use them when using inline planer boards. While trolling I prefer to hold onto the rod and be able to feel what's going on. Whether it be a Lindy rig, a small crankbait or even a big Jake or Believer, I've always liked to feel the fish slam the bait.

    What's your preference and why?

I should mention that I'm more of a caster then a troller but both have their time and place.

  5. A buddy of mine had a 7 poundish pike on Balsam this past weekend and lost it at the boat. He also had his first tiger muskie the week before all of about 3-4 pounds. He wasn't sure if it was but the guy he was fishing with varified it. :dunno:

I've heard of serveral pike being caught in Balsam but in my hundreds of hours on that body of water I yet to get one myself.

  6. Well here's a 44 inch muskie that I caught recently and weighted in at 17 pounds.

And this one was 46" and weighted in at 20.5 pounds.

You maybe close on your guessimate Terry. I was going to be generous and give it a 15+or- pound weight but it does look shorter then 42". Hard to tell with the fish curled up. Great to see the little guy getting a fish of that size though!

    Cliff, you're too funny! lol!
