  3. Hi everyone, I’m new to the forum and just started ice fishing this winter. Today, I was ice fishing at Miner’s Bay on Gull Lake and rented a hut there. By the way, the hut was very clean and in great condition compared to the other three huts I’ve rented elsewhere. I deliberately chose today because, according to the solunar calendar, fish activity was predicted to be very high (96 out of 100 on the app). I’ve fished on a 15-rating day twice and got nothing, and on a 55-rating day, I caught 3 or 4 small perch. So, I had very high hopes for today—until I got skunked again. To add to the sting, my neighboring hut caught two arm-length lake trout. It hurts a little, not gonna lie. This was my first time targeting walleye and lake trout. The hut operator helped me set up a dead stick with live minnows, which I relied on throughout the day. I got a few bites but wasn’t able to set the hook. I was fishing in about 40 to 50 feet of water. I also knew the barometric pressure had recently risen (mostly clear skies), which might have played a role. I’m feeling a bit confused and would love to know what went wrong. Any advice or insights would be greatly appreciated!

  4. Only an ignorant jerk would do that. We have great friends in Pennsylvania who come up here every June and we holiday together, sure hope that crap doesn't happen to them

  5. I'd go for a bowmount, nice to have if you want to get into some back bays for casting.

  6. I made quite a few trips to Simcoe while residing in the GTA. At least I have some memories. You're right about other opportunities (relatively) close by. It would help if I had someone to go with and share the load of dragging the sleds loaded with equipent. My 69 years are starting to show. Gotta stay off processed foods to alay the soreness caused by imflammation.

  7. Our U.S. friends are always welcome in Canada! Don't pay any attention to the ignorant Canadians that boo your national anthem at sporting events.

  8. Thanks OhioFisherman! Ironically, i just looked at Rock Pine yesterday and sent the link to our group. And, also ironically, I too am an Ohio fisherman. I live in Columbus as do two other members of our group and 1 in Middleburg Heights. Not to get political, but the way things are going right now, i just hope we're allowed to cross the border come late-Summer.

  9. This was a banner year for ice! Friends are visiting Temagami this week, Nipigon and even some are just finishing up on parts of Lake O that froze over well this winter. Agree that costs are stupid for everything now but if you've already made the investment for gear, then it's just up to you investing getting yer arze in gear to go.
