Muhammad A. Javaid Posted August 10, 2024 Report Posted August 10, 2024 Dear members, I recently joined this remarkable forum. Presently, I am retired and love fishing, camping, photography, gardening and do some Islamic Calligraphy as well. It will be greatly appreciated, if someone can advise on the following questions: 1. Where to fish in Durham region particularly Ajax. Presently, I don't have a boat (planning to buy one) 2. Are there any opportunities to join someone on fishing trip or on a boat. I am ready to share the expenses associated with fishing trip. 3. Please also advise the best sites to buy the used boats. Regards, Muhammad Javaid
CrowMan Posted August 12, 2024 Report Posted August 12, 2024 Frenchman's Bay in Pickering is a good place to get started fishing from shore in Durham. Observe what other anglers are doing, and respectfully ask them questions. An opportunity to learn and perhaps make some friends. I wouldn't jump at buying a boat just yet, until you get your "feet wet" a bit, and decide what kind of fishing you like. You may also consider going out with a professional fishing guide for the day. There are a number that operate out of the Kawarthas area (not far from Ajax). You will certainly learn a lot, and you'll almost be guaranteed to catch some fish. https://fishingtoronto.ca/fishing-location/frenchmans-bay/

Essox Posted Tuesday at 01:14 PM Report Posted Tuesday at 01:14 PM I don't fish that area off Ontario. However until you pull the trigger for boat consider getting some waders. They will greatly enhance your shore fishing capabilities. Also fun way to fish from shore is to target up land stream trout. You find creek-small river with lots of public access or get access from the farmer. Usually if you walk the creek bottom you shouldn't need permission only if you go up on shore. It's fun and you can explore a bit. Then when you shop for a boat 1st do you plan on fishing alone or with or 1 or 2 others. It'd better to get a slightly larger boat but if fishing alone you want to insure it's not to big to handle alone. If you target bass you want a floating dock (bass-boat), or if trolling for lakers or walleye then a deep-V for stability while trolling. Then comes storage can you park it? Don't hesitate the learning curves not bad and you likely won't regret it. I started with a square back canoe, went up to 14' runabout and now have a modest 16.5' Lund 1
