Was looking at some Minn Kota trolling motors and the PowerDrive V2 with the 48" shaft looked pretty good, since wanted the remote control to operate it from the back. Turns out that with an adapter plug, I can use my little Humminbird Piranha 20 with it as well. I actually have two of these sonar units, would there be any benefit from having both units operating from a 12 foot boat? or would they interfere with each other too much? I know I would like to definitely like having the sonar at the bow, for it would make following weedlines alot easier...

Was thinking of getting a couple of these seats for my 12 footer. Buddy at work was saying that he did not like them for they broke at the four anchor points of the base...that I'd be better off getting the ones with the thicker padding, at more rugged type of seat. boat seat Does anybody have these seats and are they that bad, or maybe he was just too rough or something with them?

No mention of the good ole barbut, we used to get together on nights back home and throw out worms or pcs of weiner etc, then bring a mess of them back for a good old feast. Only knew them by the name of barbut back home, but I think they really are black bullshead (mini catfish..lol). Only ate rockies once back in high school when on an ice fishing trip...but recall them being pretty tasty...just roasted them in tin foil on the open fire.

Yeah, thats the idea I guess I was kicking around. Wow, sure wish could do that kinda make over magic with a 12 footer...lol, ah well just hafta wait till can trade up to something bigger to do that kinda thing...for now be happy with putting in some seats for comfort and figger out how to install a bow mount electric motor that I can run from the back of the boat....I'm sure that will more than do me for now
-
Was just wanting to put the seats with a swivel base on them...I wouldn't want to try putting the seats up higher on pedestals....would be nie if I could, but you're right, it would be way to tippy. Just want something to make it more comfy.

I am looking at putting some seats into my 12 foot aluminum...want to install those release a seat things onto the bench seat and then the swivel I assume just slips into this outfit. Question is...do you simply screw those release-a-seat's down to the metal benches, or would it be better for to put a piece of 3/4" ply down first to screw or put some bolts thru it. Then just use adhesive and screws to secure the ply down? Boat is at storage now, so can remember if there is access to under the seat or not...can't remember from last season...lol.

I think you are supposed to use the original variety (the stuff that smells like hospital disinfectant)

Just found out that the place where I'm storing my trailer, boat and canoe on Courtice Rd, will have to close up (owner is in a squabble with township). I'm hoping an OFC member from the Oshawa area might be able to recommend a place to store my stuff for a reasonable amount. I had originally stored my stuff at a place up off Stevenson Rd north, but he charges a ridiculous amount and I got the impression that my "well worn" old camper wasn't fancy enough to fit in with all the other big RV's etc. It's bad enough that the government has both hands in your pocket these days...without being gouged everywhere else you turn as well!

Hasn't government ruled that all these products have only a certain amount of deet in them now? I recall as a kid when Muskol first came out and it worked amazing...then again what did we have for comparison...the old original OFF (remember them dumb commercials of sticking your arm into the clear box with the mosquitos? LOL) My dad was convinced that the stuff actually attracted the bugs....lol. My dad used to have a jar of some kind of cream with oil of citronella in it. The smell of it will forever take me back to camping and fishing trips with dad...but effective?....nope. Now that regulations have put all of the bug repellents pretty much on the same level, I don't imagine there is much real difference (at least of the ones that rely of deet). For the record tho...I have always used the Deep Woods OFF (once I got over the trepidation from using anything from OFF after the orange stuff) I found it worked best and now that they have the no scent variety, even better! (Remember the great commercials for Deep Woods....where the people would be out in the middle of nowhere and that deep voice saying DEEP WOODS would make them look around....)

Searching for Software Converting AVI Files to DVD format
Black_Blade replied to dsn's topic in General Discussion
I also would recommend Convert X to DVD...its all I use and have never had a problem. -
A really great site I found a few years back, really helps out alot. Site is The Marine Doctor, this guy is excellent...he was even able to give me advice on an old 69 outboard I got. Good luck.

Well, everything is pretty much been covered, but I know that I would be making room for a few of my Black Mamba baits thats for sure Great replies guys...will sure help out many anglers that are not sure what lures to start out with either.

I'll have to put my bets of Mike...he is my son's best friend and came camping with us last year. We got ourselves a little competition going at that time and I must say he amazed me with the fish he brought back to camp...just from some shore fishing! Two of them were over three pounds, one over 4. This was shore fishing at a provincial park, and you know how many people pound the shores at PP's!! He actually did better from shore than in the boat...but he did say that he was not used to boat fishing. LOL I can imagine once he catches onto boat fishing techniques He will be with us again this year, but at a different lake. Not sure if this is the trip he is using for this little tourney here or not tho. Excellent to see such enthusiasm, sure would have been neat to have the internet when I was a kid to have fun like this...good luck to both!!

Lots of good fishing to be had in Mattawa River while at Champlain PP. Been several years since been there now, but its a nice quiet park with good hiking trails as well as the fishing. Renting a canoe would sure be helpful tho. May also want to try Chant Plein Lake...some awesome pike action in there as well as bass. Sister rented a cottage there one time and we used to visit and fish that lake quite a bit.

Awesome replies, guys! All great choices of baits, I would prolly pack more plastics (worms and twisty tail grubs) to use with jig heads, beetle spinners. I was just looking at one of them telescopic rods in CT yesterday, wasn't sure how well it would stand up (would it be weak?) Makes you wonder eh, when you can really narrow down your lures to 10 all time sure hitters...just why we have suitcase sized boxes Wife always points out to me that I spend more time changing lures than fishing...
-
An ultra light camping/fishing trip where you can't bring a whole tackle box Criteria: -You don't know what fish are in the lake. -You can only take a single rod and one of those small plastic lure trays that has 10 compartments or so.

Has anyone made up a camp/grub box? I am designing up one for to use in my Sportspal to hold the majority of the kitchen gear and other assorted items. Just curious to see others, as it may have a handy feature to include in my design. So far I know I want the front to open out to a work surface, will incorporate a plastic cutting board into it. Will be using 1/4" ply for most construction, I guess box joints on all edges would be the strongest way to go...backed up by 1x1 strips glued and nailed in the corners. Searched for images etc on google, but not really too much came back for what I would find useful, since alot of them were pretty big and meant to be hauled in a truck etc. All ideas welcomed!

Just wondering how the higher waters this season will affect various fishing scenarios here in southern Ontario. We had the extra snowfall, so I imagine water levels wil be higher. Just curious on thoughts of how this will affect the fishing...different tactics etc. Much as I enjoy bass and pike fishing, hoping this is the year I finally snag some walleyes...

I haven't tried the lake as yet, just the river (area around Emily) Wife and I thought to head up to the lake once but needed something a bit quicker than my little 3 HP... ...it took hours and still didn't get there so we turned back. Add in the big, fast boats zipping around and it wasn't all that fun. Maybe just drive around and put into the lake instead this year...lol I recall several boats from a tournie last year and they were having a tough bite along that stretch too, got most of their weight in the lake itself...must have been something to do with the carp situation, cuz usually pretty good bass action around Emily.
-
Don't know what was wrong last season, but had really tough time getting bites while camping at Emily. Hoping things are back to normal this coming season.
-
I still remember my mom holding pike like that. It used to give me the willies, cuz I swear her thumb and finger must have been touching, she was gripping them so hard...lol. Needless to say those fish didn't do much thrashing around (maybe that was the reason she did it...)

read some of those mags...but its hard to relate to some of the lakes and structure that they talk about in their articles...its like night and day different kind of bass fishing up in Canuck land. but the odd time you find a gem of info that works up here too. Looking at pics of bass that are bigger than an average sized dog is also kind of hard to relate to, kinda like looking at pics of Ferrari's etc...ya they are a car got 4 wheels like yours in the driveway, but that about where the similarity ends...

I was just going to post the question of how fishing has been around Emily lately. Was up there last weekend and although only got out for a few hours....I got skunked. I used wacky worm, texas rigged and some tube jigs (but they were constantly getting fouled on the weeds). I just tried in and around the park and down the river a bit towards Omeemee way. Tried around the bridge area, but there is way too much boat traffic there. I tried a bit in that left hand bay just past the bridge at dusk with no luck either..tossed Black Mambas and texas rigged natural Gulp crawlers, for that was the only thing I thought of that would not get all fouled in the heavy weeds. Don't ask me why I never tied on a spinnerbait...lol....maybe thats the problem with having a ton of tackle..it boggles you and then you don't know what to use! Wife and I paddled up a ways towards the Lake and then used the motor when we got tired, but I just have a 3 HP on my 14 foot Sportspal, so after 2 1/2 hours and still not to the lake, we just turned around. I was considering riding up to the lake to fish there, but seeing as it would take half a day to get to the lake from Emily, I may just drive it up to Bobcaygeon to put in. We are heading back up this weekend again, so hopefully will be able to get a little action. Bringing our 2 year old granddaughter with us with her Dora fishing rod that papa got her...so look forward to some good fun on the docks. Sorry about the big post...I have never yet been to Balsam PP but can highly recommend Emily, it has all you could ask for good family outing...nice campsites, good fishing and if you forget anything...they rent out just about all you could need to camp.

I just got back from CTC and was looking at the GPS's....there was the Canada CD there as well for the Megellan unit....question is...do you need this extra map with all the contour info etc. For example, if I went to Rice Lake and used the unit without this extra map info loaded on it, would I still be able to have the lake show up on the screen due to the base map that ships with it (of North America)? Or does the addition of the uploaded map just give a better, more detailed view on the screen?

Totally cool...now to just get them to bite like that on the lake
