  1. Thats exactly what my Springfield looks like, works great.
  2. I bought mine through BRP's Johnson Evinrude accessory catalog. Very reasonable price. Go to your local Johnson/Evinrude dealer and check it out.
  3. I have used Springfield's Taper-lock system with no troubles. You can buy the pole in a hydraulic model. Mine is used with a bicycle style seat and it has never popped out of its base.
  4. Ironic how that works. You say that the fishing was terrible between 4-6 and that is when the fish turned on for us. This year the lake is really messed up. Bass haven't started to spawn yet and we were getting readings of 60 deg. Normally the temps are around 52 - 54 and there are tons of bass sitting on beds. We started our day around 7am and boated a six pounder and had three follows in the first hour. Then it stopped and our usual holes were not holding any fish. Around 2pm we decided to try new water and about 3:30 we found the honey hole. In three hours we caught two fish over 15lbs, four around 10lbs and two under. Seen lots more and had lots of follows. Went back in on Sunday and got a 10lbs gator in the first ten minutes off the same spot and then nothing. Fished a bit of new water again and came across a little sheltered bay that was loaded with pike around 10lbs. Be thankful for the weather, the last two or three years I have done the opener it has snowed.
  5. If the impellar has broken into small pieces, be sure to watch your temperature after you install the new one as these bits can restrict water passages and plug thermostats.
  6. Johnny, the north end of the lake has a public beach and launch on hwy 620. It is about 2 hours form north york give or take. Wally fishing is pretty much dead, I've heard claims that there is to much Lime in the water for them to reproduce, but that is just here say. The Lake has been getting hit pretty hard in the last three years. I remember the opener five years ago and there was only two trucks at the launch. Now it's packed in comparison. All well, good things never last forever, or is that secrets. If you still want directions then shoot me a private message and I will get them for you.
  7. You can mix your gas and oil 50:1. Oils are way more advanced nowadays then they used to be. A group 27 or 31 battery form a reputable brand will not let you down.
  8. If it's the model I am thinking of, it is a new design this year. They have a electric lift pump that replaces the need for a primer bulb. It does sound like the unit is starving for fuel , however what concerns me is the fact that the engine won't crank at times. Have you checked your battery connections and the main connections to the engine. It sounds more likely to be a bad ground connection or low battery voltage that is giving you grief.
  9. I replace mine every year. This little chunk of rubber has the ability to end your summer real fast. The impeller is worth about $40 and most dealers would charge a hour labor. I have never heard of a gear case leaking because someone changed the water pump. If it has happened, it was most likely due to lack of knowledge in dealing with such an issue. If you wait until the pump fails and breaks up inside the engine, you will have to check the cooling passages in the powerhead to ensure there are no restrictions that could cause bigger issues down the road. I say change it!
  10. I think most boosters nowadays have smart circuitry in them and require a small amount of voltage to turn on, which would require you to still have a battery.
  11. I am partial to the Krown Walleye series of Batteries.
  12. I agree with Mepps, have your good arm on the rod. I crank spinning outfits with my left as do I with bait casting. Of course in the end you would just have to go with what feels natural.
  13. I am pretty sure that you can get a Shimano Citica with a decent BPS rod for a good deal. The Citica has come a long way in design and I believe you wouldn't be disappointed.
  14. I don't get in the boat without my bacon and egg sandwich's warped in foil. MMMM
  15. It is benificail to slow charge a deep cycle. High amperage current can damage a deep cycle. I see no problems in your set-up.
  16. Why put the pressure on a different species, just means that you will end up with the same problem again. In twenty years we will all be saying don't keep the bass keep the walleye. I hear a lot of people in my area complaining about the walleye populations, fact is that most of the lakes in the area were stocked with walleye and are not native. (hmmm, don't hear anyone screaming invasive species when walleye show up in their lakes) Sorry for the rant, it is just my opinion.
  17. Still about 6-8 inches of ice north of Barry's Bay.
  18. Power pro is extremely limp compared to Fireline and it might take some getting used to. The sensitivity factor will astonish you as you can feel everything with Power pro. I am not very fond of the stuff but I use it for the sensitivity factor alone.
  19. Couldn't have said it better. Shimano all the way.
  20. I believe Pooch said that a kicker wasn't an option. As for the point about keeping the hours off an engine, this point is only valid if your main concern is resale of the engine. the worst time for anything mechanical is down time. This is why the biggest phrase that a technician heres is "I've hardly used it". For the application I still have to recommend the Opti.
  21. Unfortunately, for that kind of money just about any combo will give you grief. To get a positive experience with your combo you would be looking to spend around $200. There is always the option of keeping your eyes on the classifieds, can get some really good deals. For the most part stay away from the major department stores like Canadian Tire and Walmart as stores like these tend to sell bottom of the line products and you would be most likely disappointed again. Remember you get what you pay for.
  22. I will agree with Nipissing even if I indirectly offended him (sorry, didn't really intend to rock the boat) , the new direct injected two strokes are far more ahead of the four strokes for emissions. Those of you who don't think that four strokes don't burn oil have been misinformed. Also when was the last time you seen a properly running direct injected two stroke billowing smoke. As far as idling for extended periods I see no problem with the Opti. Gerry is right that the lubrication is reduced for idling, but remember that there is no more gas in the crankcase to wash all that good stuff away and if using DFI oil I firmly believe that it would never be a problem. The E-tecs also have a reduced oil consumption program if you decide to go with the branded BRP synthetic oil. (Theres a plug for you BRP fans)
  23. The Opti would be my choice over the four stroke and I think you will find that it is better on fuel than the four stroke. Less routine maintinance involved with the Opti and less moving parts. I work with all major boat motor brands and the Opti as far as I am concerned is a far superior engine. Also no offense to you E-Tec guys but BRP's dealer and customer support suck compared to Merc and Yamaha. I have said it before, BRP's main business is marketing.
