  1. 2 weeks ago when the cold weather came I believe saturday was the coldest day at minus 36. I went the day before and it was just the start of that cold weather moving in and we caught at leas 30 perch although they were on the smaller side. This was off of gilford in a operators hut.

We used the northland buckshot rattle spoon and a VMC flutter spoon. the VMC outfished the buckshot I think mainly because of the flutter and we had a bright orange color spoon. I highly recommend the VMC flutter spoon!

Ill have to check those out!

Probably 80% of my ice fishing is done with buckshot spoons and I love them. Great for walleye, pike, perch and crappies

  2.

Hey, did you just switch sides? Weren't you arguing the opposite a few posts back when I brought the subject up? Just a fair warning that nobody is supposed to change their mind on this stuff!!!

Nope, not changing my mind at all.

Just pointing out that some studies suggest that marijuana can cause issues in a developing mind.

Just because Im pro marijuana doesnt mean I cant point out issues because they do exist

  3. You are right Dave but I just got screwed out of a job because I was a p3, qualifications up here mean squat unless your aboriginal or have lived up here half your life,,,,,,,,,even a friend of my wife today is packing it in after trying for two years of trying to get work and she is a university graduate,, but she has 2 strikes against her she is not native being a p1 and she has not lived half her life up here,,,sadly because of prejudice the have lost their savings and are having to leave, I only truly wish the rest of Canada knew how one sided things are up here, they are truly playing on ignorance

Many aboriginals without proper qualifications are getting some great paying jobs even without a high school diploma or even a drivers licence,, a quote from one native who got a job on maintaining the ice roads said all I have to do is give my band number and I will get a job up there and he did and he is driving a truck that requires a class 3 or d in Ontarios terms and he had no valid licence revoked and yes we also have friends working on the ice roads my neighbour being one and an ice road trucker of 14 years ex military,,,,,,and I have to go thru winter with a defective furnace and hope we dont deal with effects of carbon monoxide poisoning, it is not all roses and the Yukon and Nunuvit will surpass the NWT this year for economic growth, I only wish we came up here when u did, and yes the lady in question had applied 25 times in the last 2 years for various govt positions, its like the lube truck driving job from the mines which has been advertised countless times but I never got an interview, if I had of they would not have had to keep looking for people to fill the same job,,, I have been told they have to take time off for healing sessions, and that is also from an aboriginal

    Racist

Im just kidding bud but thats an issue to take up with the queen of england. Good luck on that

  4. Gunna give it a honest effort this weekend

Heading out Saturday and Sunday to attempt the allusive (for me!!) Simcoe white fish! Or at least to see Jer hoist a big one.

    Those are great pics Emil!

    Your not the only one!!!

I catch a few each year and thats it! And my first one came like 3 years ago lol

Wish I was more succesfull cause they sure cook well!

  5. Winternet yeah.

But I've said this before as well(as it gets brought up every year.

A buncha people on here are friends and friends talk about more than fishing.

There are fishing only sites you can also visit as well.

And as pointed out, if ya dont like a thread or a topic skim past it

  6. Darkwater can you prove that comment. If smoking pot causes un developed minds to get schitzo (sp) then this disease should of increased at least 5 fold in the last 25 yrs because that's how many more youth are smoking it. I cant find any reports that say this disease has increased only that it has been about the same in the general public for about the last 40 yrs. Sorry to tell you that you don't know what your talking about. Stop the fear mongering and educate yourself. This is the only card the prohibitionists have left to their defence.

There are lots of studies on pubmed mah man that show troubles with marijuana and developing minds.

The pychosis IF I remember correctly was moreso in head trauma cases where adults admitted to heavy cannabis use as teens. And similar pathways were effected in the brain that led to issues. And it was very isolated. Maybe 5 cases which is clinically insignificant to say the least

But yeah just a quick look on pubmed yeiled 2302 related studies.

But many of those are neuro protective as well.

So it clear to say this is an area not well understood

  7. I don't always go by scientific fact to make up my opinion on a matter. Gut feelings have saved me a few times. Gut feelings probably have a scientific basis to them too. Years of experience locked away in the brain and without recalling a specific incident you get a "gut feeling". Call it instinct, intuition or whatever.

I just think the age of majority should be 21, but that won't happen very soon. But then again I have seen more maturity from some 13 year olds than some 70 year olds but that doesn't happen often enough for me to say a 19 year old can make good decisions.

Studies already show issues with undeveloped minds.

Giving pot to 16 year olds is crazy irresponsible(i know your not for that)

    Id say 25

Even drs are saying 25 unless its a neccessary situation(seizures etc)

  8. What's so funny? Drifter doesn't live here any longer. But he pays a buck each for an egg and has 15 minutes of summer to enjoy.

I didn't vote for Wynne but someone did. If we want good, very good paved roads to God forsaken places in this province like Rainy River someone is going to pay for it. If anyone has ever driven on thruways in places like NY that will knock the headlights out of your vehicle you wouldn't complain as much. And they have to pay a toll too! Has there been a total waste of taxes, darn right there has but you don't know how great you have it until you venture out in the world, or leave the province of Ontario at least. People tend to forget Rea Days or Mike Harris, you think it was any better then, not.

    Hey thats a low blow!

And rainy river has like 10 roads and they all suck lol

Google earth it its just a little circle of country roards

  9. I lived in Thunder Bay back in 1971 - awesome city at that time! Fishing, hunting, skiing all very close to home. I'm not sure what it is like now but I have heard that crime is rampant as well as druggies on every street corner.

Thunderbay is horrible. Its drugged out beyond belief and yes, crime everywhere.

Still worth a visit for the sleeping giant or some skiing but stay away from downtown.

Similar to winnipegs downtown or north end

  10. I think it is just food colouring in those bait dyes. If it is it's harmless. My kid's tongue goes green after having a lollipop. No big deal. If I could hazard a guess someone had the dyed water in a bucket of bait, dumped er down the hole. Some pike came a long and had a buffet of dead dyed minnows and got caught the next day or shortly after. I could be totally wrong but that is my guess first off. If that pike was caught a few days later it could be normal again.

Well if it consumed dyed bait it sure ate alot lol.

But yeah food colouring is relatively harmless.

Next up bait dipped in mountain dew
