  1. Well I say yes get a kicker as others have said its a back up.Imagine being stranded and the wind kicks up and it begins to get nasty out there at least you can point the boat in the right direction.Yes a VHF radio is another must and yes you can call for help.Being out on the water is not HWY 401 where there is an abundance of tow truck drivers competing for your business.

As for a trolling plate NEVER AGAIN. The happy troller model broke a piece of the fin when I had it mounted on a previous motor of mine 50hp Honda that lesson cost me $300.

Another point why put hundreds of hours on the main motor when you can use a kicker and consume less fuel.If your main motor is a 2 stroke so trolling with that.NOT

  2. I was looking for this exact style of boat recently. All manufactures, no preference there, and both in ON and Stateside.

There were no boats of this style Stateside. The ones that were available were not a great deal.

As many of you know I bought a 2010 Smoker Craft Ultima 162 with a 75 4 stroke Merc a couple weeks back.

IMO, and I did a TON of research, the Smokercraft/Starcraft boats blew away Lund.

Better features, better design and better hull. Just my opinion obviously, but that was my conclusion.

For what it's worth I picked up my 2010 package for $12,000.

I would NEVER buy new. There's deals to be had if you're willing to spend the time sifting through the net.

Good to hear you chose a nice boat Mike I think the 75hp will help you more when bringing alot of gear into the cottage.I must admit when my boat is full of stuff and loaded the 60hp is borderline. So did you get rid of the Old SSV?I must have missed the pix.Enjoy Mike

  3. Sometimes I get the urge as my boat is stored in a heated Garage.

I don't own a 4 wheel drive so thats another no no in winter.

Here is one everyone should be checking your insurance coverage.

My boat is covered from April to the end of November so guess I will just read the diehard reports. :whistling:

  4. I'd be taking the ticket plus the bill of sale for the new light and heading straight to the cop shop to talk to whoever is in charge.

Nobody has any control over when a light will burn out and I can't see any way you should have been charged.

That cop needs to be raked over the coals by her boss.

Used to be a time when you were given 24 hours to fix stuff like that and then just take the car in so the cop can see it was repaired.

What a cash grab.We get a 48 hour warning here in Quebec.

    Yes time to fight back.

  5. Usually everyone goes home at the end of the day and that's where the problem comes in, booze and hmmm.. whooze goink todive ome? If you can't fish without booze you have a problem.

I agree perhaps that is the problem Drinking and driving.

Don't have a problem.Once in a while I enjoy a couple of beer while ice fishing in the Province of Quebec where it is legal to do so.

Nothing wrong with a couple of moderate drinks.

  6. Unfortunately over the years the laws are strict due to too many incidents.

I rarely bring beer with me in the boat. When I go way up North in Quebec where it is permitted I do enjoy 1 or 2 beer while out in the boat.

What I can't understand in Ontario is why is there zero tolerance for booze and Ice fishing. There is no way you can fall through the hole unless you were renting a simcoe hut.

Ontario is a bit too harsh at times.

    c'est la vie

  7. OMG its going to be a tough one my friend.

Was one of my worst trips in the 6 years going to BOQ in November.

Mostly high winds since last Thursday. The Shad are more than abundant.

I know how to catch walleye in November but this year was the toughest.NO takers for 3 days of fishing.

Did not take the boat out this morning as there were 6 foot plus waves in Adolphus Reach.

I could could see hundreds of thousands of tiny shad in Picton Harbour for the entire time we were there.

Right now they are well fed.Now we know of one OFNer whou caught a nice double digit but we will let him post it.

Someone with above average computer skills

Until next year.Skunk is all I have to say.

  8. Cook all depends on the boat you have 30k winds are windy but you could still get out there. From the cement plant in to Picton Harbour it tends to be less choppy on those rough days.

If you get into Hay Bay the wind tends to be a little less agressive there too.

If you are staying over night then fish picton harbour at night.

The Adolphus Reach and Long Reach are the areas where high winds make it nasty.

Good luck I would say go for it!!!!!!!!!!!

  9. The dates were posted at the beginning of the thread. We'll never all be in agreement. That's the way it works and some peoples' feelings will be hurt because you're not using THEIR dates. Have you ever registered for a fishing tourney where they've asked you which dates would be the most convenient for you?

Lakair G2G dates are set and people either can make it or they can't. Most people get there somehow. We've been doing this long enough to know. On the other hand.....you can try to please everyone and this thread will last and last and last. Walleye season closes sometimes though so....

From personal experience, the people who will have crusaded for a specific date will in all likelihood have something important come up that weekend and will not show up.

I have decided to go one week later later Roy as the fishing has slowed over the last few yrs around the 11th and 12th.There seems to be more success towards the end of November.

Last year when we went around November 12th is was so warm we had to peel off the survival suits.

I will be there Nov 17.18.19 and 20th.

Hope to see y'a there Papa Smurf.
