  1. Hello,

I was wondering on what peoples thoughts are on if the lights on the underwater cameras scare your fish in the night?

I personally feel when the underwater camera is stationary, it does not scare any fish so long as it isnt moving or you dont turn the lights on when the fish are present..But I am uncertain if fish in the dark are spooked to feed infront of the lights?

Obviously, I have noticed that aquatic bugs and certain minnows etc are attracted to the light....(I am talking about light like on a marcum not the LED infrared on the old aqua vu which are invisible to naked eye)

So i was wondering, with light sensitive fish like Walleye, in the dark, would they be spooked to come by the light of the camera to go after a bait? Im just wondering if the underwater night viewing is useless as it scares fish

I am not interested in the legalitites in terms of fishing, Im interested in know flat out if anybody sees walleye and other fish with the cam, or if the avoid it like the plague.

Thanks guys, and Im interested in your experiences with particular species ie pike not scared of light walleye spooked etc etc

    thanks

  2. The Stradic CI4 and the Ballistic are both fine reels. Although I have not fished the Ballistic I listen to people and have heard nothing but positive comments on these reels. The new Zaion Carbon material is lighter in weight and the Air rotor is a nice touch. This reel is very smooth out of the box, not sure on it's longevity.

At 8.6oz the 2500 size is heavier. 35" retrieve on the Ballistic. Now the CI4 2500 is much more attractive in terms of weight sitting at 7.0oz and a 34" retrieve and not to mention a stronger drag at 15lb's vs Daiwa's 8.8lb drag. Both reels feature 7 ball bearings also.

I'll mention that I love my Stradic CI4 and it's probably the best value for any angler. I have played with all of them right up to the Stella's. It all comes down to more expensive gears, parts and materials. Both are durable, affordable and well made.

A couple of numbers for you, hope this helps. For $20 more I would strongly suggest picking up the Stradic CI4.

    Mike

X1million on buying the ci4 mike!

Ah long, jdm is the devil (because their gear 99% of the time is way better!)...and $$$!

As for higher end "higher"quality gear being in a league of its own, and being built with higher tolerances etc, many ppl would be VERY surprised at how many parts are engineered with same material in same factory etc and are "generic" amongst mid-hi grade and premium reels stradic sustain stella curado chronarch calais etc......in some cases, it's humbling...(based on prior 2012 models that is)a stradic really isn't that much different then the stella at the end of the day. Trust me.

That ballistic is worlds apart from the certate.

  3. Are replacement blades easy to find for the NILS?

    lololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololololo

Sorry about that. As of 2 years ago, lololol no wayyyyy. Maybe things have changed with their new augers etc, but the blue body and red head were very tough (impossible locally). Anything can be sourced online, but obviously at a price.

  4. Meh, it lasted me a season, and got me into ice fishing. Now with all the other gear I have bought this just seems like the next natural progression........ or a Quad.

lol good auger is one of the most important components.....

Dont waste your money on a quad, buy a 3 wheeler for next to nothing, and drive it only in a straight line or you will die. Love you bud.

  5. I saw this one at the local Costco the other day: http://www.costco.ca/NILSUSA-Convertible-Hand-Auger.product.100002405.html

Was only $100 in the store, looks like a nice unit, easily converts for power drill.

Wow I didnt know it was a Nils available.....

I have absolutely no experience with this new orange nils, (I have the blue shaft with the red blade), but if its the same auger, Id buy a few if I had a costco membership.....again not sure if its the same as the the blue one I have, but if it is?........WHAT A STEAL BUY MANY

  6. I've read a few comments on other sites, the most mentioned is it only has a 50' cable which limits your depth. Second is the lack of a power port to provide backup power when the battery depletes. Battery is supposed to be good for about 6 hours. Other than that, most seem to like the clarity and small size for portability. I almost bought one at the x-mas sale at Tromblys, but like usual, wrong item and wrong price.

lol wrong price there I bet....

  7. Nils master is THE BEST HANDS DOWN manual ice auger you can get. The price will also reflect that. Its a self sharpening blade so long as you take care of it itll last forever. Pretty much no downward pressure needed: itll walk through the hole like a 4X4 in low climbing a small hill.

Man I am telling you, they are hands down the best fastest easiest (and most expensive) manual. Worth the extra $$, but damn hard to find locally.

If you slam it down and detune the blades, youre in trouble. I found a guy in the US off iceshanty who was actually able to sharpen and retune my cutting bit.....but apparently its rare to find someone who will guarantee their work.

    BUY A NILS MASTER

  8. Good old shimano. Damn...uhhh I fell on my steez and need a new handle daiwa steez...response....ZZzzzzz

Shimano is great when you contact them...

I'm surprised and happy an old FH handle is only $18!!!! I paid near $90 for a calcutta dc handle recently (aftermarket look-alike) *shaking fist*

  9. I have a Nanook and pull it by hand ALL the time, as I dont have a sled or ATV. It's really not bad at all.

I've rigged mine up to be able to remove one seat when I'm fishing along, and that cuts the weight down a bit.

As long as you have cleats you're fine dragging it by hand.

Shhhhh! We're trying to get him to buy a new car, or sell his hut....

You must mean pulling the nanook is easy, if somebody else pulls it for you...right?

  10. I wouldn''t want to drive any distance in the middle of winter with my trunk half opened, besides the fact of trying to squeeze it in and out at the beginning and end of your trips. The 2 man flip is the way to go if you have a machine to pull it, but pulling them out on the ice with any amount of snow sucks. I know this isn't what you want to hear but I'd sell it and buy a hub style hut.

    Lol X2
