I would take a pspinning rod med light spooled with some powerpro or fireline or berkley big game. Take a variety of hook sizes especially some circle hooks. Alot of the locals will sell you there conch shell scraps cheap. If you are into flyfishing a 8wt perfect and a 9wt is even better. If your lucky you may see some bonefish tailing early in the morning and you should catch a good variety of jacks. I live on sturgeon lake so every species in there especially muskie at the end of the season unfortunately. But I have too say my favourite passion is saltwater reef and flats fishing. Especially with a flyrod. Cheers Jeff

The grren is shallow water like the shoals and the colour changes are shallow to deep or vice versa. Cheers jeff and by the way I was at the bottom of cooks bay this morning and it has approximately a inch of ice out a few hundred feet. Won't be long now before some shallow water first ice perch. If you want a cheap as well as a good rod then check out the bass pro shops rods that they have for $40. They have a heavy action rod that I use for muskie fishing and I have no complaints. It works well for large spinnerbaits and bucktails but might be alittle to light for suiks or other jerk baits. Thats just my opinion if your like me and don't have alot of pocket cash. Cheers Jeff

My first ice lake is a small lake about 10 acres thats stocked with splake then around the haliburtons and when cooks bay has ice mainly there. Cheers jeff

If you are into flyfishing I would take a minimum of an 8wt with a floating or intermediate line and bring some sinking tips. Bring long leaders preferably made out of flourocarbon. As far as flies go minnow imitations like clousers and leftys deceivers are good as well as some shrimp and crab imitations. If not into flyfishing then bring heavier spinning gear or baitcasting gear. Raw shrimp work well off the beach or pier.If you have any questions then shoot me a email or pm. Cheers Jeff
