  1. It gets like that at Wilkes Dam in Brantford every day. Pisses me off too. Guy that was there on Saturday with me was fishing for minnows directly in FRONT of me while I was casting. I was like... what the hell?
  2. Thanks for the tips so far guys! I appreciate it! One more day to go...
  3. Hey Guys! I am heading up to the cottage this weekend and will get in some good fishing time. The cottage sits on the Black River, which also runs into the Green River. I've only had luck catching some small bass and perch (and 5000 rock bass). Our neighbour at the cottage says theres everything from Walleye to bass and pike to muskee. Has anyone fished this river before or has any tips? I'd like to catch some larger fish or at least something that will put up a decent fight. I've used worms every time, however my tackle box is now stocked well with tons of different cranks and jigs and other crap (Plus I'll be stopping at Bass Pro on the way, its a must!). Any tips at all would be appreciated!
  4. I used them just like I do worms (which is probably totally wrong lol). I use a split shot sinker about 5-6 inches from the hook, and just hook it through the tail/midsection. Usually produces fish, unless the crayfish climbs under a rock at which point im screwed! lol.
  5. Indeed. There are no special regulations there. He needs to read more.
  6. What are you talking about? That's not included in the exceptional waters. Get your facts straight. Edit: Here is the info Mr. Almighty clear cut. Fishing regulations Special fishing regulations have been put in place in part of this section of the Grand to protect the habitat of the species in this section of the river and to improve fishing opportunities. The zone extends from 100 metres below the Highway 2 bridge in Paris to the Pedestrian Walkway and Services Bridge on the north boundary of Brant Conservation Area. This a barbless hook, artificial lure and catch and release zone. This river section is closed to fishing from March 1 to the Friday before the last Saturday in April. Some areas are fish sanctuaries. For details see the regulations for Southwestern Ontario, Map A, Division 4 or visit the MNR website at www.mnr.gov.on.ca. And if you clearly look at the map, neither of them fall under the special regulations. Kthanks.
  7. I just bought a pin from that site and it worked. I hope its legit! lol
  8. Good Morning! Just uploaded some of the pics from my blackberry from my adventure fishing the grand on Saturday. I got up at around 6am and made my trek out to Cockshut bridge. Finding the place I used to go as a child was a bit of a challenge, but I found it after much walking. You kind of have to go through the corn field and around the bend to the right of the bridge. There's a nice little hole where the water backwashes. Fish were jumping all day. It was crazy!. Here is the crayfish that I caught, take a look at that HUGE one. It was more of a lobster Big sucker Kiss Kiss! First smallie of the day, caught on a crayfish Smallie caught later in the day back at Wilkes Rock Bass took my lure! I got stuck in the torrential downpour in the morning. I had to climb up an 85 degree mud cliff with my gear, while it was pouring rain. I'll never do that again lol. I caught about 7 or 8 fish at that spot in roughly 4 hours. After the rain stopped I decided to go check our Wilkes again. First 2 casts I caught 2 smallies on worms, but after that it just dried up. Then the rain hit again and decided to call it a day. I havent been out on the river for 6+ hours like that in a long time. It felt good and I hope I can do it again soon. Next time I hope I can find some walleye or bigger fish.
  9. My girlfriend was just at the Amphitheatre last night for Kenny Chesney.
  10. Hello. I know in the regulations that it says crayfish can only be used in the body of water they were caught in, but what is that really? Like, Churchill Park has a stream that runs into the Grand River near Cambridge that is full of crayfish. Is that considered the same or different water? Thanks
  11. Yeah that little ledge is usually packed with people. I fish in that little side channel sometimes too, where people think there are no fish, but theres lots. I've got a few big smallies , catfish and suckers over there. I still have yet to catch a pike in my lifetime. I really want to experience the fight of a bigger fish. Last time I caught a big fish was a carp when I was like 5 years old, and my reel exploded it was so big, so I had to pull in the line with my hands. (lol, I know I could have seriously hurt myself, but I was like 5).
  12. Well the bass I kept and ate. The sucker, well, its a sucker... too many of those And it was only on the stringer for a minute whilst I took the picture.
  13. I've tried gummy worms and cherry blasters, but never gum. (I caught a nice carp on a cherry blaster lol.)
  14. No I don't eat the suckers. Depending on the fish, I like to keep them for a photo op and then I release them
  15. Hi Everyone! Just thought I would post what I've got so far this year. I've only been out about 5 times. These are caught from various places, Calandar Bay, Lake Nippissing, Black River in Washago and the Grand in Brantford near Wilkes. Looking forward to participating on here!
