  1. The gear will come with time.

For your first year on the ice, your main concern should be ice safety IMO. It can be very safe on the ice. But you can land your self in life threatening situations very easily if your not careful.

    As for your questions.

I would run 8 - 12 lb braid ice line.

    Med Heavy Rod

8" Auger. Just make sure the Auger is collapsible for putting in your car.

  2. I'd like to take you out on Nipissing in the later part of the season this year and really get into some good perch and walleye! Maybe get a mini g2g of sorts.

Absolutely! I was actually going to PM you and see if you wanted to set something up for this winter :thumbsup_anim:

  3. Right on Chad!

To bad you didn't get anything for the table.

I went for a walk on Orr Lake today, out about 50 feet. A good few inches there, but only in the shallow water (less then 2'). The rest is wide open.

  4. I've only herd of one or two people that have ever caught a pike there in the past few years.

I also herd there are a few cottagers that have been importing fish in to the lake. Crappies... Not sure what that will do to the lake.

I have never heard of anyone catching a crappie in there before either.

And the bass. Well, they are few and far between for the most part. And they are fussy.

  5. I'm not sure. I don't see anything in the regs about it. I thought I remember hearing something about restrictions on the lake.

To be honest, I've only lived in the area for a year. And last winter the ice didn't form on the lake. Every time I hit the spud, it went thru in one or two hits, all year.. The lake is full of natural springs, and has very inconsistent ice.

On that note...If you plan on going out, let me know :thumbsup_anim:

  6. Alex,I use to do one after the close of Lakers and whities out from Hooters for pike/perch. If you just want a GTG,that might be an option. The last few years, the ice has sucked.Hard to get on.

Maybe we can talk later about it. Lots of time. I would be more then willing to help you out.

You should throw it again this year Brian.

Pike in the morning. Hooters for beer (and scenery) in the aft.!

I think Alex is of age.. If not, he sure looks the part :whistling:

  7.

Before you even start fish for the day, talk with your fishing partner(s) about the plan on how to net and land the fish, if your net folds make sure they know how to open it practice. By doing this hopefully it eliminates the panic that can set in when a fish especially a big fish is hooked, it will also increase your odds of landing the fish. I believe that having a plan and having everyone on the same page is the key.

So you're trying to say that simply screaming "PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE....PLEASE PLEEEEAAAAAASE!!!!" at your fishing partner to net the fish is NOT the correct way to handle the situation? :dunno::sarcasm:

In all seriousness though, great post, and great advice. I'm glad you took Lew up on his request to create this post.
