Where to Buy Fishing Licence
[email protected] replied to Mike the Pike's topic in General Discussion
Your best bet for purchasing a license in O-town would be Le Barons (1512 Merivale Road). You have to go on a hunt to find a CT over here that sells them. -

I also agree with putting your eggs in two baskets..However its a toughy this year. Personally i think Buffalo is going to do some damage in the east since they face a slumping Philly in the first.. especially if Miller is on his game... Vanek should be a decent point producer ..unfortunately that is all ruffalo has in terms of point getters...Gerbe might surprise. Tampa might be a decent pick for the east...Stamkos disappeared in the second half but St. Louis, Vinny and Purcell seemed to be semi hot towards the end of the season. In the west...Even though I'm not a big fan of San Jose, I think they have some solid fire power this year and good enough goaltending that they have a solid chance of making it to the finals...Their top 6 are pretty solid... Can't count out Franzen and Detroit...They are a little banged up but they almost always show up for the playoffs...its really annoying... My prediction is a Boston-Buffalo eastern final and a Detroit-San Jose western Final.. That being said...my gut tells me the winner of the Nashville-Anaheim series will make it to the west finals..but that seems far fetched..

My deepest condolences Dan, to you and your family.

Hi Everyone, Hope most of you were out on the water today enjoying the amazing weather...I should be able to do the same a week from now, but till then I've got some looong nights planned with multiple text books.... I am hoping to do some catfishing this year and from the looks of things, the bite should have picked up by next weekend. The wealth of info on catfishing over here is awesome and much appreciated. Cut up suckers seems to be the bait of choice. I am going to try to see if I can catch a couple to salt up early next week, however I know that once the ice melts over here, tons of these shiny critters (pic attached) school up close to my place. I always called these fish golden or silver shiners (some in the school are nice and goldish, others are silver) but want to make sure that they are indeed shiners. I was going through the mnr baitfish site but could not come to any strong conclusion. I have a funny feeling they might be rudd. Would any of you be able to identify the fish. Also, can they be used as catfish bait. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Nigel

Ai Caramba! When it rains it pours! My apologies to all of you. Should've known better than to throw in the towel early on here. Figured it was a real longshot….once again my apologies. A million thanks for all the suggestions. I had all the documentation available online on the topic and so was looking for old hidden stuff that I couldn't find in the archives. Fortunately I got in touch with Geoff Morgan, one of the plant operators. Top notch guy who went out of his way this afternoon to provide me with documentation that answered all my questions for now. He sounded like a fisherman, so in the odd chance that he might be a member or lurker on the site..A big thank you Geoff! Irish and Terry, thanks for keeping this post alive. Darren, thank you for the tip on the Public works documents. I know I will be digging for more info in the near future and your info should definitely save me some time. Garnet, the name Rod Parrot rings a bell for some reason. Will definitely keep him in mind as I proceed with the research. Thanks! Nofish4me, thanks for the suggestion. I did look up archives for various agencies like Infrastructure Canada and the Environmental Assessment Agency as well. However I did not have any luck. I later found out that there was some info in the documentation I was seeking that was not for public eyes and that's why the documents were not as easily available. A million thanks for the offer Chessy! I had most of my questions answered by Geoff this afternoon and so am good for now. I greatly appreciate your offer though. Once again I apologize to all of you for throwing in the towel. Thank you so much for all the help! Cheers! Nigel

Hi Everyone, Hope all of you had a great weekend and enjoyed the amazing weather followed by last nights spectacular lightning show. Knowing the wealth of information on this site, fishing and non fishing, I am going to go out on a limb here. I am working on a term project evaluating the decision of replacing Port Hope's old conventional water treatment facility with their new ultrafiltration plant in 2005. Since this replacement took place a good 6 years ago and the initial planning documents i.e. the class EIA and recommendation reports were all in the years 2001-2005, Most of these documents that would have been available online are not online anymore... Thus I call out to all residents of Port hope on this forum. I know it is a long shot, but would any of you have downloaded any such document and stored them electronically for your records. I have contacted the Treatment plant and the kind Operators at the plant will be sending me some documentation in the morning. However I was hoping that there might be some more info here on this site. I have alot of information on the new plant but cannot seem to find any info out there on the old plant and costs of the old facility. Any information would be more than greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance for any help. Cheers, Nigel

Anyone ever fish in Long Beach, Cali?
[email protected] replied to [email protected]'s topic in General Discussion
Thanks for the info! Hopefully i'll be back with a nice report for ya. Cheers1 -
Hi Everyone, Hope you all are having a fun weekend...The sun is out and the ice is melting and the itch is getting stronger..Soft water fishing season has arrived!! for all you hard water guys..my deepest sympathies..that being said..I saw some massive carp cruising in the canal by my place.. so yipee!! I have a couple of quick questions for you fishing gurus about fishing in the states/Cali.. Firstly, has anyone fished the coast of Long beach? I am headed there for a conference in two weeks and am very very tempted to take a rod and reel and some top water poppers with me. However i have not had much time to research about the fishing down there as well as any regs and license info...I was wondering if any of you know of any such information. For those who have had a chance to cast from the shores of longbeach.. is it worth it to take a rod down for possibly an evening of fishing... Any info would be greatly appreciated! Cheers, Nigel

Off the Dock Toons T-Shirt Contest - Guess the Weight!

9.69 lbs.. -
So I took my good buddy D carping last night...He does not fish much but got him hooked on carp a couple of years ago. So when I told him about the possibility of a decent carp bite, he bit. Corn kernels were the bait of choice..peaches and cream corn to be more precise ..The night air was cool but the water was nice a warm...We sat for a good hour and all we got was a decent sized crappie on corn?!..The surface was calm, no splashes..nothing... We were about to switch to jigs for bass and walleye when the surface erupted...splash here..splash there...5 minutes later D has a fish on...We don't have heavy duty carpin rods and reels and usually fish for carp with medium action spinning gear with 8lb test mono...So we usually allow the fish to have a solid first run..The screaming reel reminded me of my saltwater fishing days, shore fishing for king fish on light gear... Anyways, after the first run the fish came in without any problem which was odd since these beasts usually take a good couple of runs on the looser drag. So we net the 30 incher and find that the fish is missing one of its gill plates?!? Took a picture of it for you guys to analyze...At first we thought maybe we were the cause the injury and were trying to figure out how it happened...but on closer inspection of the the remaining gill, it looked like it was a previous injury...the remaining gill was thick and smoothed out on the edges...Was the most unusual thing I have ever seen. Take a look at the pic and let me know what you guys think... Twas the biggest carp D has caught thus far so he was ecstatic as can be seen in the pic of him with the fish.. A quick couple of photos and the beast swam away...We were still puzzled by the non existent gill plate... I had a fish on but the line snapped on the hookset...stupid mistake by me, still getting used to braid... All in all it was a decent night out...Got to catch up with D and see him giggle like a little girl when he held up his fish for the camera... Nice to know that the carp are still biting...Now I know what to do when the walleye bite it slow.. Tightlines! F

Waters connected to the area i fish supposedly have sturgeon but I doubt their presence in the area since the body of water is small with a max depth of 15 feet.. Looks like i'ma gonna try some summer carping....need to see how big these fish are... Thanks for all the responses. Cheers!! Fishingitus

I went out last night to one of my most productive fishing holes of the year in hopes of catching some nice walleye and bass and kinda got skunked...The spot usually gets me at least one nice walter a trip and over a dozen bass.. a trip is usually a little over an hour of fishing so the productivity is pretty darn good. Yesterday while the bite was non existent, the surface activity was ridiculous with some huuuge splashes. The area I fish holds a ton of carp and also some muskie. The splashes were not constant, there would be a couple all at once and then the activity would die for a bit and then a couple of splashes again...These splashes were definitely made by big fish. So..My question is...could the muskie feed have been hot last night and all the surface activity due to a muskie feed which slowed down the walleye/bass bite? Or could they have been carp with their usual surface play. The fish weren't jumping out of the water but you could hear the gurgle of the water like when a big fish hits a top water lure... Your thoughts?

I'd try darker colored tubes...i.e. Berkley tubes in smoke or pumpkin seed...i haven't tried senkos yet cause these tubes have not let me down...been catching a good number of eyes on them too...

and walleye....been out for walleye once a week since the opener...and have been catching my limit within minutes on almost every trip...the first two trips i hit into many but was too hard on them... This is going to make Big Cliff jealous..Was out for two hours last night and between 3 of us fishing...12 walleye were caught....nothing brag worthy but every so often a 30 incher is caught.. Honestly..I'm a scarberia boy and have had my share of skunked days around the Toronto area...I'd pick O-town over T.dot for fishing any time...unless you like your Salmon... Theres even trout around here... Theres catfish here too!!! haven't targeted them but have seen 5 to 10 lbers yanked out of the ottawa... If you do decide to move to Ottawa...PM me and we'll go fishing... And right in the city...you dont need to drive more than half an hour to hit honey holes... The air is fresher here too.. Cheers, F

Introduction & Spring Laker Fishing
[email protected] replied to JamieM's topic in General Discussion
I've fished the lake a couple of times...only managed a Laker once on a white tube....the lake is small but the cover changes quickly..goes from real weedy to real rocky real fast...The one we hooked was in around 10 feet of water in the bay right across from the camp sites and canoe launch...The lake has kinda been emptied out due to a fishing contest that the campsite ran a couple of years ago.. It is currently in the restoring phase right now... Hope you hook into some nice lunkers.. Tightlines! F -
Yeah that is definitely a rabbit fish...amazing fight on light line...We used to catch tons of them on dough balls when growing up in Abu Dhabi..The locals used to call them "Safi" over there...Hope you din't get pricked by the fins as they have a mild venom at the tips which causes a severe stinging sensation.... Greats pics dude! Tight lines squid fishin! F

Hi Everyone, Just wondering if any one has had any luck with crappies and perch in the Ottawa area. Hoping to go out for a couple hours this weekend and was just wondering if they were biting. I know Dows lake is still covered with ice but Mooney's bay looks nice and clear. Not so sure what the Ottawa river conditions are like but i'm assuming the water levels are nice and high as in the Rideau. Thanks in advance for any info. Tight Lines! Fishingitus

As kicking frog mentioned there is a Le Barons and MEC oer here that should sell rainsuits...Also, there is a fly fishing store in bells corners here in Ottawa that I visited a years ago that might sell em. They were just opening up when i last visited but they had kayaking gear and wetsuits so I wouldnt be surprised if they had rainsuits as well. Will see if I can find the name/contact numero of the place for ya. Cheers, Fishingitis
