  1. Hit the Sportsman Show today. Thanks to input from many, I pulled the trigger on a Terrova 60” 80lb with remote and foot pedal. $2675 instead of $2800. Will have to wait till May-June.
No MinnKota booth. Only 1 of their reps at Radioworld.
No Terrovas or Ulterras to examine. Only Powerdrives on boats. 🤷🏻‍♂️. Not many tackle dealers.  Lots of Chinese ATVs. No Honda.
    Pretty good hunting booths.
Overpaid to get in. Seniors $15. Starts at 60 yrs. 🤕 Forgot to ask.

You are getting some really good info in this thread. In fact the motor suggested to you is sold out all of the time…there’s a very good reason for that.

you could go to the motorguide booth and they will tell you their trolling motors are the best thing since sliced bread.

    Yes and yes

If you’re able, I would suggest checking out all of the brands at the fishing show this weekend and speak to the reps at the respective booths. Might be able to scoop a TM up there for a “sale” price.

Talking to a rep is good to point out their features and maybe strengths. But they won’t ever tell you their weaknesses. Gotta talk to you guys, reviews or the competition to find out the full picture.
I’ve dealt with reps all my career. Can’t trust any of them.

Been running the same Ulterra since 2018 with 0 issues. Running a tiller (where I am always at the back of the boat) its a great feature when friends or family are in the boat. Then the auto trim is awesome when getting in shallow for snags etc.   Like anything you need to take care of your stuff and it will last a long time. Kept in a garage and a small amount of maintenance after every trip keep it working excellent. I almost never use the pedal... the remote works great.  Would definitely recommend.

What I think the most useful perk is launching and trailering the boat solo. I fish solo quite a bit so personally for me I would never buy another type of trolling motor.  No dock needed... no help needed. The video below is literally every time I pull up to a ramp and someone is watching.

    Good luck with the decision

Good to hear. What kind of maintenance is required?

  5. Hey Guys,
I fish Pigeon Lake mainly for eyes, Bluegills and occasionally musky. Weededges and humps.  My ride is a 2007 Lund Tyee 1750. My current motor is a 2007 Minn Kota Powerdrive V2 24v without Spotlock.  Works fine.  My electronics is a Lowrance HDS 7 with over 600 waypoints. Will likely upgrade that to Humminbird at some point to sinc with MinnKota.
But it’s  often windy and it’s a pain to keep on a spot or follow a weed line.
Thinking of upgrading to a new Powerdrive or TerraNova. Which would you prefer?  And is a handheld remote alone sufficient?  I’d have no footpedal and cable to take up space. Seems better but want to know what experience says.   Thanks.

"but extremes like what they are doing in California for example seem ridiculous"

I was in LA in the late '80's on a business trip. During the week I was there, there was a temperature inversion trapping all the smog in the LA basin. This was before the stricter emissions regulations had kicked in. I was hacking up brown crud for the next week after...and I was a smoker then, so my lungs were already "broken in". The air there was literally killing 1000's of people a year...they had to do something.

Yes..even small steps help. Countries like China are still building coal-fired generating plants daily, but does that mean we just throw our hands up in the air ? To me, that's the same mentality as...I'll just throw that Tim's cup out the window, because the roadside is already full of trash.

It's apparent that we can't just continue on the path we're on and ignore the science. At some point, we have to do something. Do we just keep kicking the can down the road, or start to do at least something. I've got four grandkids...do I just toss the problem in their lap ?

Ah, those grandkids. I’ve got 9 so far.
Our legacy will be a polluted planet and a massive government debt. Nevermind that fishing is now lousy compared to when I was a kid. Unless of course you have $5000 worth of electronics on your boat.  😎

I didn't want to turn this thread into a commentary on investing advice. My remarks about "Minit Lube" were strictly an attempt at humour based on the trend of increasing electrification of the economy.

I will say, when I hear the words ..."most are saying " when it comes to investing, I stay away.

I've always found the words of the Sage of Omaha to be good advice..

"Be fearful when others greedy. Be greedy when others are fearful."

I also live by..."don't invest in a business you don't understand". That's  why I would never touch bitcoin or crypto.

Warren Buffet bought Occidental Petroleum last year and took a significant stake in ExxonMobil.

Yeah just a year ago they were saying don’t  invest in anything to do with oil, bitcoin is the way to go

I follow oil and gas stocks.
Most are saying oil is going to stay at current levels and likely will go to $100+ in 2023.
Oil producers are highly profitable at $60-$80 oil.   Government green policies  are discouraging these companies from exploring and reinvesting profits as was the norm in the past.  Profits will be returned to investors in the way of increased dividends and share buybacks.  Both forcing stock prices up.  With Russian oil under sanctions and the Saudis mostly maxed out, oil will stay high for at least a decade. Companies will likely be doubling their dividends to 8-10% or more in the coming year. That’s good news. I need a new trolling motor with the anchor feature 😎

  9. I hear EV trucks disappoint when towing.
Remember everything runs off the battery in an EV.  AC, heater, seat warmer, lights, radio.
Add that batteries don’t like the real cold.
Not sure,  but I’m guessing range drops significantly in -15C weather.
Good in California vehicles ( we’re there are many).

I personally wish I could figure out a way to make the extraction of crude from the oil sands even 1% more efficient. Lots of companies working on this stuff. Then I could buy every boat I’d ever want lol.

If they build a nuclear plant in northern Alberta and use electricity to aid in the extraction of oil sands oil, efficiency goes up by 1/3.  Smaller nuclear plants are coming

  11. Did a cottage run today for a peek after the big winds last week.
Lots  of limbs down but thankfully no damage. The neighbour a few doors down had his suspended aluminum dock ripped off the hinges.
Scugog and the bottom of Pigeon skimmed over.  Gannon Narrows and upper Pigeon wide open. No snow.

If you just want to test battery voltage then this will do. https://www.princessauto.com/en/digital-multimeter/product/PA0008347676

If you want a battery load tester, I bought one 2 weeks ago they were 1/2 price at PA, it works from small to large and different batteries and does all except Lithium Ion. https://www.princessauto.com/en/12v-digital-battery-analyzer/product/PA0009067968

    Ok, thanks.
I mainly want to find out if the old batteries are still good or should be replaced. So do I want a voltage or load tester?
