  1. I just confirmed over the phone that non residents will be charged $10 to park at the lot in Innisfil. That's life I suppose.
  2. First thing I would buy would be a floater suit for both comfort and safety.
  3. I looked at them a couple of years ago as well when I was buying a winter coat. For the price and weight I decided to get a Columbia down filled parka. More versatile and I haven't regretted it. Mind you I live in the city so extreme cold is not a factor. I do, however have a Mustang Floatation coat and pants for ice fishing.
  4. Thanks for posting the link. I always wonder when public officials say it won't affect the drinking water....... Has anyone noticed this in the Misssissauga waterfront area?
  5. I don't trailer a boat, but, I have a class B Roadtrek. For manuverablity and "offsite" camping you can't beat a class B. They are more expensive, but, you can use the RV year round. I drive mine all year and I doubt it if you would use a class C year round. I will preface my comments by saying that I don't have any experience launching a boat, but, I don't see any major problem launching a boat from a class B with a rear hitch set up. There is no rear overhang from a class B anymore than the standard van chassis that they are built on. My advice (if there are only 2 of you in your family) is get a class B.
  6. Go with the canoe, then you can take backcountry trips. No maintenance, lasts forever, easier to transport, and canoeing is the best way to be on the water.
  7. I don't keep alot of fish, but, here's my experiences. Great Lakes Salmon and Steelhead, a bit of a muddy taste. Largemouth bass, grassy taste. Smallmouth bass and perch fairly mild and not bad. Pike, excellent. Sucker, very mild and neutral taste. Walleye and whitefish good. I believe it makes a big difference where and when you catch the fish. Like all animals, they are what they eat.
  8. I tried sucker from Lake Simcoe for the first in my life and was surprised how mild and "non fishiy" the fish tasted. Other than the fact that it is boney, it was an eye opener on how one has preconceived ideas on what is a "good" fish. Based on what I tasted, it was certainly better than any steelhead I've eaten. No muddy taste at all. If I get a small carp from a good body of water, I'll have to try it someday.
  9. I pinch down my barbs 100% as well. The majority of my fishing is catch and release, so easy hook removal is important for me. When I started fishing years ago I had the misfortune of hooking the back of my head with a fly that was snagged. You know, snagged fly, pull rod, snag frees up, pull back rod to prevent tangle, oops, fly in back of head..... Well, let's say I pinched down barbs ever since. Last year I embedded a treble in my hand and even though the hooks had their barbs pinched down, it was a challenge to remove it. I would have hated it if it was barbed!
  10. I agree, I used to listen to it a few years ago, but, it was basically just conversation that was not fishing related. Haven't listened to it for quite awhile now. It was a useless show from a learning perspective.
  11. Although I've fished for years, there been several species of fish that I have never eaten. I rarely keep any steelhead or bass for example. This year I decided to try suckers. Felt like eating some fish, so first I checked with the Guide for eating Ontario Sportfish and looked up where suckers were safe to eat. Lake Simcoe here I come. I caught 3 suckers and tried some pan fried and smoked the rest. First off, the flesh is firm and flaky and very mild. I would say it's the least "fishy" taste fish I've every had compared to whitefish and perch etc. I was impressed with the taste, but, it is one boney fish. I've read you can score the flesh and deep fry it, but, I didn't try it that way. My smoked fish from a taste perspective was the best I've done comparing it to salmon and lake trout that I've done. But, again very boney! So as far as I've concerned, good eating if you can handle the bones!
