  1. Unlike back East they don't issue a cold weather warning @ -15C. If they did we would be under one from October to April!!! They wait for it to get a little colder here in the North country before one is issued.

OK, a lot colder!!! Like 35* colder!!! They don't issue one until it hits -50C ambient or windchill.

So if you think it's cold there, it really isn't. ;)

  2. That motor doesn't have an alternator.

The problem is either the voltage regulator or stator assy.

Best approach if you don't have a factory service manual is to have a mech diagnose the issue.

Unfortunately I sold my '91 Merc 90hp last year along with the factory service manual otherwise I could have copied and sent you the diagnostic steps to test out your components.

As for basic tools, yes and no depending on the issue.

For testing you just need a volt/ohm meter.

If you have to replace the stator you will need a puller to remove the fly wheel.

That is the only specialized tool you will need.

  3. Seems like the big sell off starts on Thursday at Target for those of you interested.

No store here so it ain't gonna help me any.

The Target Canada liquidation sales the company teased at earlier this month will kick off on Thursday, according to internal memos between Target staffers - and, if the emails are to be believed, it'll be like Black Friday all over again. The CBC reports that while Target is on the brink of acquiring court clearance for liquidation, which is set to be approved as early as this Wednesday, the company is already preparing to start unloading huge amounts of merchandise at its soon-to-be shuttered Canadian stores, including several GTA locations.

"We expect Thursday sales to double compared to a normal Thursday," one of the emails reads. Another, sent from a B.C. human resources employee, reads: "Thursday will be like Black Friday." Expect more details on the deals themselves to arrive within the coming days, as the company is planning "hardcore marketing" to spread the word about the sales. (Friendly reminder: Be nice to Target employees while you scramble for that discounted toaster.)

  4. It's been fairly chilly... But it's also been mostly sunny with very little snow....

I'll take -15 or colder with a bluebird sky over 0 to -5 and snow every day....

I just can't get over how many people are so unprepared... Going around with no gloves or hat or boots or anything... What would happen if they get stuck or break down on a quite road...

If I'm not wearing heavy winter gear it's I'm my back seat...

If you don't want to die up here you have a winter survival kit in your vehicle.

I have tow straps, tools, clothing, fire starting devices etc.

When on long trips in the winter in desolate places I carry food, drink, sleeping bag etc.

Everything needed to survive in an Arctic winter.

  5. Back in the mid 80's I had a 1971 Torino GT that I bought and was fixing up.

I got the new engine in and got it all certified, plated and insured and hit the road for my first cruise in the new jalopy.

I was cruising the Lakeshore in Mississauga when I spot red lights in the rear view.

    @#$!!@$%^^^&&%!!!!

I pull over by the Satellite drive in and get all my paperwork ready.

The officer walks up to my window and I asked the officer what I had done wrong? I said I know I wasn't speeding and didn't run any lights.

He said you did nothing wrong, I just wanted to check out your ride, It's Sweet!!!!! :D

We spent about 15 mins shooting the breeze and talking cars before getting on our way.
