  1. A willow branch plucked from the lake shore before you head out can't be beat. That's all I've ever used. And, you'll never find a more sensitive rig. Just tuck your line under a bud and you're good to go. Sometimes fishing gets too complicated.

I'm with Dan ... nothing beats a supple twig stuck into the slush beside your hole ... line right off the spool tossed a few yards away in the snow ... except maybe this ... (because perfect twigs arent always easy to find) ...

Notice the jingle bells, the rubberised release mechanism (from a skirt hanger) ... the glow stick for strike indication in the dark ... and the infinitely adjustable wire which can be bent to be more sensitive on quiet days or a little stiffer in the wind ... and as a bonus just wrap a cigarette tinfoil (or black electrical tape like in the second rod in the background) around the line to catch the wind for that little 'extra wiggle' and to be able to see that the line is still set in the release from a distance ... patent pending :)

  2. Health and happiness for my family and friends is tops on my list. I honestly can't think of any material things that I want or need. A few Rapala Countdowns would be nice. Size 5 or 7. Any color will do.

Cmon Dan !!!!... while I gotta agree wholeheartedly on the Health and Happiness .... but seriously man .... You of alllll people need to be wishin for a chance to swap spit with a 10lb + speck ... at least once before her release ... and of course I'd be happy just to be the cameraman :)

oh ... and sorry Mods .... I gotta do it ... after all its just a wish ;) (delete if you must) but here is my wish (assuming first I got all of the above) ...

  3. GO LEAFS GO !!!!!! ... we may be down .. but we're not out .... I have to admit it was painful to watch the other night .... but for all the whining and complaining we still manage to beat some pretty good teams.... and nobody is on top all of the time ...

I have been a LEAFS FAN all my life and dont intend to stop just cause theyre not winning today .... guess I'm just not a fairweather fan ... kinda like fishermen who only get keen when everybody else is catchin fish .... means very little to me... I say switch baits and keep casting ...

  4. for 99cents you can get a can of comet .... that and a damp J-cloth will literally wipe away your scuffs ... dont be to harsh with it though so that you dont scour the paint right off your walls .... let me know how it works

  5. Well, glad you made it home safe and sound ... we didnt want any international incidents (you're somthing of a National treasure when you cross that border :) ... anyhow sorry about the skunk .. but glad you made it through the 'brisk' weekend without any blatant (public) nudity ... thanks for that :)

  6. And ... try tightening your drag .... I really am surprised the number of 'seasoned' fisherman I have to remind that continuing to reel while your drag is loose will VERY QUICKLY make a mess of otherwise 'perfectly' spooled line.

In fact I tell people DONT use the handle to reel against a fish ... use the handle to pick up line as you are on the downstroke of a 'pump' only to keep the line taught and the rod bent ...and NEVER use the hande to crank against bottom (sounds obvious - and sorry if it sounds like Im preaching - just trying to rule out some possible causes)

I will say - even when ice fishing (ie vertically) ... that jigging with very light line will always seem to end up with some line twist - so time must be taken every so often to untwist (and re-tie)

  7. Yep ... here we go again :)

I am a lefty and absolutely wouldnt consider using a 'left hand' retrieve unless it was that or no fishin... IMHO it would just be backwards ... I write with my left hand, hold a raquet with my left hand, I cast with my left hand, throw with my left hand play a fish with my left hand ... BECAUSE I am left handed ... reeling with my right hand makes the most sense since all the 'feel' of fighting a fish or control while casting is managed in my left hand/arm and would force me to switch up every cast / hit if I used a 'left hand' retrieve.

BTW I golf right, shoot right in Hockey, bat right .... In my opinion that should be called LEFT ... because its the most natural way for a left handed person to shoot/golf/bat ... all my life people have been trying to get me to 'shoot left' because I am left handed .... honestly as a sports guy I can say ALL the really good 'Lefties' seem to have been people who were actually right handed :)
