    AK see your inbox.

Alligator gar would be a hoot to reel in and knock of the bucky Siwash.  I'd think bottom baiting for something like that would be much the same as our sturgeon fishing up here... except a whole muddier and sweatier down there in that stanky Texas heat.  That keeps it kinda lower on this pasty white ginger's priority list, the sunstroke and skin cancer and all. lol.

    Thanks for reading dudes.

    Or throw an evergreen jackhammer

was fishing santee Cooper a few years back and one followed my jackhammer boatside and was up against the length of my boat. I couldn’t believe my friggin eyes while also being extremely terrified of the 8 foot long monster swimming after my bait.

At least the big gators down there don’t chase your baits!

Not acceptable , Arrivecan only! Or you go to quarantine jail.

I know it sounds like doom and gloom, but here's a real life scenario, I crossed the land border during the border closed period in November of 2021. I was so excited about getting my new boat and being as organized as possible to get over the US border that I completely forgot to do the arrivecanada app upon my return with my new to me boat.

I was required to go in anyways to pay the taxes for the boat importation, the agent asked about my use of the app and i explained that I had totally forgotten but literally had my negative PCR test and vaccine receipts with my passport, I ended up getting "randomly selected" to get a covid test upon arrival (at no cost to me except my time)

It wasnt that big of a deal.

The question I have is - I got the Johnson/Johnson shot over a year ago but haven't gotten any since - would that be enough -

yes, a single shot of J&J is classified as "fully vaccinated"

The arrive canada App isnt that difficult to use.

    Baaaaahahaha!

Thanks baaaahhhdddy!  For making me feel all warm and fuzzy, and tingling in my horn.  Baaahhhem I mean, horns.

I need to pick your brain about gar fishing some time, I’ve got a couple of spots where I know some giants live and I just have no real clue what it takes to make the big ones bite and stay on.

  5. Fresh trax’s point is actually so true I just forgot because it’s been a while since I’ve used an electric steer.

but truthfully when I had a terrova I spent 90% of my time pointing my boat into the wind, hitting “constant” and then hitting “heading”

effectively once you’ve aimed the boat and put the setting on a speed that gets you to crawl into the wind, the boat will literally drive itself.

on really windy days fishing open water I still use this functionality like crazy rather than dancing around on the trolling motor as the wind attempts to throw the boat everywhere. Keeping the boat under power stop the boat from swinging sideways while rolling forward.

  6. You will learn to use the pedal, do not give up on it.

eventually it will become such an extension of your body that the speed of the terrova electric steering won’t be fast enough for you. Well that is unless you experience the feeling of a “cable steer feel” motor like a Garmin force. Once you go with that style you can never go back IMO.

  7. This is literally a topic without an actual clear answer from the MNR.

to date I have not heard of a single concern expressed by the MNR as it relates to taking photos of large musky caught.

for greater certainty consider the fact that in Georgian bay the possession length for a musky is 54+ inches and only for sport license carriers. Which truthfully means that 99.9% of the musky photos you have seen taken of fish caught in Georgian bay are “illegal” by definition.

where this gets even more grey is that the MNR actually did release a statement as it related to the zone 20 pre spawn bass season where they clearly indicated that taking photos of catches during the 0 possession season is unlawful. The main reason for this was that tournament directors immediately inquired regarding the legalities of an MLF style catch, measure, photo, release tournaments during the period. The MNR quickly shot the idea down. (Rightfully so)

here’s my personal take, OOS fish don’t count, don’t bother taking photos of them. My “pb” laketrout isn’t my pb, I caught it bass fishing, I promptly unhooked the thing and sent it home back to spawn.

fish are in season but have slot sizes/convoluted possession limits? Take a picture with your 50 inch musky no one is going to say a peep.

The MNR makes a specific reference to a species in a specific season, adhere to their rules.

Thanks again for good advice!  I was wondering if I would ever have to remove the card once I get it in there.  Why would one need to remove it?

    Doug

I was autocharting a bunch with a helix 7 for a time so that required swapping cards. Then I acquired a helix 9 and it had two slots so I didn’t need to swap anymore. Now I’ve gone totally Garmin so I don’t touch cards what so ever because they own navionics.

  9. To get the cards out I’ve honestly resorted to using a knife to poke the ridge on them. The card will actually make an audible click noise when it gets pushed into the slot. Don’t push too hard, just nice enough to feel and hear that little click.

to remove you will once again push on the card to hear that click and it will release the card from the slot.

  10. Kawarthas are a grind in early July as the bass adjust to summer water temperatures. Especially on calm clear sunny days. Friday it was cloudy with a chop and had the best day of fishing I’ve ever had in my life on the tri lakes, Fished a tournament Saturday didn’t have a limit until 1:30 in the afternoon. Cooler water temperatures than is standard for this time of year and the weed growth is behind as well.

  11. question....do you throw your boat into reverse to attempt to stop it while driving? It seems impossible to shred a drive shaft like that without doing anything..unless the gearing was misaligned when inserted into the top end. Did you attempt to replace the impeller or do anything/have anyone do the water pump since purchasing the motor.

if none of the above...looks like a merc 😪

    Buy once, cry once.

The nice thing about new outboards is that you'll get 10 to 15, maybe even 20 years of trouble free service with only routine maintenance.   Yeah there are horror stories, but for the most part any outboard is pretty reliable nowadays.

Except those evinrude G2 motors, holy cow the horror stories.

every manufacturer has had its issues in some particular powers.

for example the 2006 yamaha vmax engines, the 200 was flawless but the 225 and 250 were time bombs due to an oil starvation issue on cylinder 6. Lucky for anyone buying a used outboard you can typically google the motor and year you are looking at and figure out which ones are good vs bad.

there were Johnson motors that were flawless, there were mercury ones too…the difference is that bad Yamaha’s and Hondas and Suzukis are typically the exception instead of the rule.

almost all of the 2020+ four stroke motors these days are really really good. They are running reasonably older technology now with all of the kinks worked out.

    Agreed.. I won't buy a motor that's older than a year I can remember.. and I'm 45.

I couldn't be bothered with old junk anymore. 10 years ago I got fed up with everything, it was getting to the point where I'd troubleshoot Tuesday,  order parts and install by Thursday so i can fish friday and Saturday.. just so i can do the same thing next week!

got sick of it and bought a brand new BMT package.  So far its been 2 impellers and other routine stuff, but I can guarantee that boat will run all weekend without issue.

Everyone has their own budgets, but it gets to a point where time with family and friends outweigh working on an old motor to save a few hundred bucks.  Some guys love the vintage stuff and enjoy fixing and tinkering with it.  I do that 40hrs a week so when it's time to go fishing,  the last thing I want to see is a wrench! LoL  but to each their own, as everyone has a different situation and "toy" budget.

Owned two Yamahas so far, both completely flawless…and good thing because between the trailers and then 22 and now new to me 15 year old boat respectively they gave/give me enough work to do to keep my schedule full of tinkering…never mind the arsenal of reels that need maintenance every year.

anyone else a trailer warrior like me? lol welds and wiring something is always causing me a pita

So now you can’t take a photo of a fish that doesn’t meet the slot restrictions or length restrictions ,lots of Muskie and walleye are in trouble

Slot limits are far different than “catch and release only” seasons. Different descriptor. I think it even references “possession” when referring to the slot.

I have never seen the hoods with a little ring on them for sale locally. That ring, IMO, makes all the diff for safe and easy removal. Here is the link
