  1. This is very strange....I just received a call (today at 09:30) from the North Bay MNR Enforcement Supervisor who was returning my message I left regarding this Fish hut Registry issue yesterday...

He informed me that portable huts (he used the example of "Clams") that are out for day outings only, do NOT need to be registered..

    The reg states:

You do not need to register an ice hut if it is a tent made of cloth

or synthetic fabric that has a base area of two square metres

(21.5 square feet) or less when erected.

This reg is more for the individuals that set-up tents (canvas, plastic..etc..) and leave them out on the ice for extended periods.

I'm in total argeeance with this reg. We have had repeated issues year after year with having to go out on the ice here on the Ottawa R. after the season closes and drag back other anglers remains of makeshift tents made from 2x2s and vapor barrier and even big tarps that they left to rot on the ice!!:angry:

  2. Hey Wayne....I got so caught up on this post about no fish Temagami Lake and open water fishin, that I forgot to tell ya that me and the boys will be up there next Friday for the weekend targeting Whitefish and hopefully some eyes through the ice.....(it's our annual hard water get outa town and have some fun weekend!!)

We should be on the lake Friday by noon I hope..

  3. TMH... drop in when you come up ! Wayne

I'll do that Wayne.... you should also drop by at the lodge we're stayin at for a couple of ice cold "pops" :whistling: if you're out and about in the boat..Seeing how there's no fish, you must get tired of just touring around the lake burnin gas..I'll send ya a pm as the trip gets closer...

    Thanks,

    Steve

  4. I'll say thanks Fang!!...I'm actually headin up there May 24 - 31 for our 3rd annual fishing trip with the lads!! The past 2 years were spent up in the Iron Bridge area but the lads didn't want to drive that far this year...None of us have ever fished Temagami before so I'll keep your info in mind!!...

    Thanks again,

    Steve

  5. Steve, do you think we are ever going to get out in your shack? I am getting really bored. :sleeping_02:

Hey Don...how ya doin bud???....not sure if I'm goin to haul out the shack on the river this year...let's see what the weather brings in the next couple of weeks....I'm headin' up to Temagami on the 24th for a few days with Trevor and the lads...I'll let you know how we did... I do have another shack available to use, but it's on the other side of the Bay...they caught a 5lb eye out of it last night...We'll get out for sure when I get back from my trip!!

Thanks for the offer Dan aka WB...a few us went out today, grabbed some Christmas trees that were out for garbage collection and put them all along the ice area of where the shack went in...us locals know who the owners of the shack are and their lack of respect for the safety of others ;););)

  6. I sent a question about proper battery storage to a well known Marine Mechanic during the fall ..here is his reply:

I get this question alot and found out that there are alot of myths and the concrete floor is one of them.

To stop the battery from discharging thus needing to be charged during the winter adding another cycle to its life put it in the COLD. COLD weather stops the battery from discharging and that stops it from freezing.

Alot of golf courses that have carts run into the battery dilemma on a big scale. Each cart has alot of batteries. Anyway they check the level of electrolyte and fill using only distilled water and then fully charge the battery and then put it out side and wait for the snow to come.

I check the fluid levels in my batteries and then fully charge them and then put the boat in the barn. Have had no issues using this method I will put the charger on them once to check the charge and it usually shows fullly charged in a couple of minutes.

Right now I am using and selling Interstate Batteries, I have used them for some years and have had good success with them. I know the battery show is sometimes a crap shoot but having been there and got the T-shirt I now know what's what with batteries and that's why I went with Interstate. There are only 4 battery manufacturers in North America. One in Japan and a couple in the EU. The difference is the performance specific to each battery brand but manufactured by the same company.

You get what you pay for and I found that Interstates 29 series deep cycle has the same perfomance specs as other companies 31 dc.

Big thing is the fluid level and fully charge before storage and everything should be fine.

  7. That's my theory as well regarding the stove ...if you look close at the first picture, the stove end of the shack is the end that broke through the ice....these guys pulled that shack out on New Year's Day with only 8" of ice thickness

and BTW...the owner of this shack also put his F150 through the ice right up to the roof of the truck last Mar/07, just across the bay from where the shack is :wallbash: ...go figure

  8. I looked out my window Sunday morning and was shocked to see that an ice shack out here on the Ottawa broke through the ice sometime overnight!!!!! The lads were using it right up until 18:00 Saturday evening!!....the shoreline is pretty flooded due to the all the run-off from the mild weather we had, so these guys walked out onto the ice using planks :blink:

It still boggles my mind what some people will do for a fish :wallbash::wallbash:

Here's the morning shot (sorry for the bluriness)

    20080113_0002.jpg

3 guys started using chainsaws to cut around the shack starting at 8:30AM yesterday...they called it a day at 16:30...

I walked out today to see the progress..shack is almost out...what a freaking mess :angry: there is a huge open hole now and lot's of ice blocks on the ice from the chainsaw that are frozen now from last night...this is a main snowmobile route from the creek to the gas bar....I hope no one hits those blocks of ice on their sleds or they will get hurt bad!!

  9. It's in ZONE 16....here's a copy and paste from the 2008 "Exceptions to ZONE 16 Regulations"

Severn River between Coopers Falls Road bridge, downstream to a line extending southerly across the river from the westerly limit of Lot 17, Conc. A, Morrison Twp.

  10. hey guys i was wondering if anyone knew a recent update on nipissing ice conditions... i'm supposed to be going there on friday for 2 nights..... man i hope its ok, i have been looking forward to this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I talked to a buddy yesterday on Temagami and he said that they have stopped driving their vehicles on the ice as of Sunday, but were still using sleds and ATV's on the ice......PLAY SAFE!!

  11. Being out there in the fog is no fun. Been there. Very scary and lonely feeling.

Knowing it was best to just sit and wait it out is what we did.

Good advice misfish!!...I wouldn't head out anywhere anymore without a GPS...it's amazing how much they have come down in price these days....A couple of years back we had outboard motor problems here on the river and didn't get it back up and running until well after dark..We got home safe using the GPS..I can't even imagine what it would have been like trying to find our way back home in total darkness without it!!!

  12. We have a 57" rear projection Toshiba that we bought in 2002....we just had to replace some board due to an irritating zig-zag on the screen but it only cost us ~ $300 (that includes the part, labour and travel time to come out to the rural area we live in)...I figure that's not too bad given that this TV is 6 yrs old :clapping:

  13. This is a GREAT thread!!!...I love seeing all these pics...here's some of my 2007 memories to share with you all... :Gonefishing:
