That series may well generate more revenue than any other up to the quarter, even semi, finals. That's reason enuf for that long a series. JF
  2. Gotcha. I vaguely remember some discussion along those lines back in the day. I thought the side-firing plugs took care of that. (I forget what they were actually called, the ones with no hook on 'em) JF
  3. Something the software does for ya when ya run out of fingers and toes. JF
  4. Sorry. I know I haven't kept current on things mechanical but what is spark plug alignment? The spark plugs as we used to use them simply screwed into a tapped hole till they were snug - end of story. JF
  5. Yuk! Perhaps I do mean anise. I thought I'd seen it spelled the first way though somewhere. Just to be safe I'll add the e from now on. JF
  6. Let me know if you can't find it and I'll grab the one here for you. I go right out by the store going home now so it's no problem. It seems like a nice little rod. JF
  7. Stratford has 'em. I just got a 7' 2 piece spinning rod MH fast action. It doesn't feel too bad for $40. I'll try it out on some bass tonight. There were still some trigger rods and a few spinning rods. One UL 5 1/2 footer that I almost bought. JF
  8. Just a thought for one easy check. I haven't played with outboards for years, but if that was one of my old sleds I'd be pulling the plugs to check their colour. If they're really white on the tip I'd say you have some kind of fuel obstruction or float problem (if it has float carbs) that's leaning out the mix. That could cause the intermittent hesitation and the periodic overheating. If they're really white get it sorted out quick. JF
  9. Never having experienced the "pleasure" of trib fishing for salmon I can't have an informed opinion. However, when I was fishing near a local CA workyard I was approached by a representaive of the CA who explained to me that they monitor the area with satellite hi-res cams and are charging trespassers. I was in the river, not on their land, but he said they could and would charge me if the cameras recorded me stepping on the CA property. I'm not convinced that the CA has the financial resources for that, or even that the technology is available to them. But it was interesting how the guy knew I was there because this site seems to have few if any employees on site very often, my car and I were not visible from the road and it was a Sunday morning. Certainly hi-res satellite photography is possible but I was under the impression it's the kind of thing only large defense departments of relatively wealthy countries can afford. If in fact this is an affordable possibility, why couldn't MNR use this as a deterrent to poachers on the well-known sites? If they could monitor these areas, then they might be able to dispatch CO's when they see activity at a site. Perhaps it still comes down to the lack of funding and availability of CO's. JF
  10. FWIW we were chucking plastics into a local pond back in the early summer and getting nothing for our efforts. Finally Rob started dabbing some anis flavoured greasy stuff that I got at BPS on his grubs. He nailed a rock bass on the next cast. Then he had a fairly steady string of hits from then on with the stuff. It made enuf of an impression on me that I've been using the garlic spray since then. I'm not sure my recent results prove it's value though. Perhaps I should just go with the cheap greasy noname stuff and leave the expensive spray at home. JF
  11. Here's one that says it better - colonialism - Definition [kə-lṓnē-ə-lĭźəm] (n.) A policy by which a nation maintains or extends its control over foreign dependencies. Dictionary.com · The American Heritage® Dictionary This is I believe what Mr.Harper was talking about. Of course one would need to see the context to be sure. JF
  12. Strictly speaking the Brits and the French colonized what became Canada. Canada hasn't colonized anything since it came into being. Ergo no history of colonialization. However, I looked up the word in an online dictionary and got this - co⋅lo⋅ni⋅al⋅i⋅za⋅tion  /kəˌloʊniələˈzeɪʃən/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [kuh-loh-nee-uh-luh-zey-shuhn] Show IPA –noun 1. the act of bringing into subjection or subjugation by colonializing. Now, if it had stopped right there I'd have to say Mr. Harper was treated unfairly here. However, it went on to say this - 2. the state or fact of being colonialized. Here is where a semanticist could have a little fun. I'm not saying I agree with this part of the definition (based on my own understanding of the word) but arguably at first glance the second line makes Mr.Harper a liar. JF
  13. But isn't the point what Mr. Harper meant? Perhaps what he's really guilty of is not saying things clearly enuf for everyone to understand. JF
  14. He thinks the mirror is an accurate reflection of all fishermen? Besides, you know what angry pigeons are best at. JF
  15. Has it got decent backbone? I'm not as concerned about tip sensitivity (cuz I have no feel for it yet apparently) but I like the control I get with good backbone. Whippy rods don't do it for me any more. I don't want a tuna rod, but I want some decent stiffness ( no dirty comments necessary here) in my rod. JF
  16. Good catch. JF
  17. And yer mom still married him???? JF
  18. Have you got a real estate license? JF
  19. I think these fall under the "labour of love" category. Too much time invested that you could never charge for. My buddy Rob (the artist) says he hates to think of what his per hour wages would be on some of his pieces. JF
  20. You sound like a few guys who were employed by me over the years - they made a lot of money without working. JF
  21. Sounds like you've already done your "homework". Good idea to get the "disability" features done during building. That should at least cut costs if not eliminate extra costs altogether. Have you checked to see if there any disability grants available for new construction? Sometimes they aren't very well promoted. JF
  22. I'm not an American resident but I spend a lot of time down there, mostly Ohio now, with realtor relatives so I could be wrong in some of this. A lot of the relevant advice will depend on whether you're buying or renting, selling in Ohio, down-sizing, financing, etc. As far as I know there are no major issues in moving between states money-wise although you'll want to check the applicable fees & taxes locally that apply to a real estate purchase. If you have any disability pensions are they state-based or federal? IOW is your eligibility affected? Check the prices on interstate movers if you're planning on hiring someone. When do you have to switch your car and driving permits over to the new state control? Having just gone through a fast move myself I can tell you that going from a house to an apartment (condo) is quite a change. Where do you put all your stuff? We've got a 23x10 storage unit rented and a bunch of surplus furniture in long term storage with the moving company. My fishing gear is all stuck away in a screened storage locker in the parking floor of our condo and I have no table to work on when playing with the reels etc. My big gas bbq has become a small electric unit (no open flame units allowed on balconies) and steak on an electric just ain't the same. Downsizing is a lot easier to say than do. We've given away so much stuff in the last month I feel like a charity. I'm sure you've already thought of all these things but it never hurts to be reminded. Good luck with the new adventure. JF
  23. Well, because presumably they're trained in their use in pressure situations. You need people who are trained in handling criminals and who realize they could easily cross the line to be criminals themselves. You're right, but with people who are trained to handle difficult situations, not rookies with a gun who might just shoot first and ask questions later. I've seen what happens when you send rookies into a pressure situation. I got caught up (seriously) in both the Grand Bend riots, and was in the middle of a National Guard callout at a Watkins Glen Grand Prix. The uniforms didn't cover themselves in glory in any of those. How can we expect a bunch of gun totin' yahoos off the street to do any better? Solo's right. Leave the guns to the trained LEO's. Heaven knows they're scary enuf armed. Giving guns to amateurs, no matter how good they are with weapons, is asking for trouble. Respectfully JF
  24. Does this mean we should all be up there to visit tomorrow with float rods in hand? JF
  25. Really? I just wrap it around my forefingers (you know, the one to the left and right of the obscene one) and slip it between my teeth. I just got some really nice tutti frutti flavoured stuff from the dentist. It's better than chewing gum. And don't be so cheap. Put an extra wrap on each finger. In the end you'll be happy you did. JF
