Great pics! I love the one with the big rock face. I notice that the vertical striping on your bass seems really faint. I've often caught smallies with either dark or very light striping and I've always wondered why they're different. Does anyone have any insight?

O please. You're calling me sensitive? I'm not whining because there are (and always will be) idiots on the water. By the way, whether or not you practice what you preach is irrelevant to this conversation. Just because you and I only use the water for fishing doesn't mean that everyone else on the lake should stop jet skiing and driving their big speed boats. Just because you wouldn't go "zooming around" in a $50,000 boat doesn't make that person an idiot.

Great fish, great pics!

If you're so worried about the shoreline then why don't you quit boating altogether? lol I'm sure guys that are out in their boats three or four times a week with properly trimmed motors do more damage than the "weekend warriors" that are only on the water a half dozen times a year. Who made you the king of the waters? There's nothing wrong with weekend warriors. I only get out on the water about a half dozen times a year max and for you to suggest making boating so expensive that I should just hit the golf course instead is Bull. I have just as much right to use the water as you.

Handy Fishing Chart For Your Fishing Trips

lol I saw that comment coming a mile away. A couple of years ago I would've felt the same way. I think I'm getting older and geekier with each passing day. -
Where does the money go?

No offense TrophyMuskie, but if you get "real nervous" in 15 feet of water I think you're stressing yourself out for no good reason. Also, so what if some guys drive through the weeds or drive in shallow water? What the hell does that have to do with your safety? So what if some guys boat doesn't plane because he has his motor too low? What does that have to do with you? Please tell me you're kidding? Some of you guys come off like you think that throwing money at the problem is going to solve everything, while totally disregarding the burden it places on the safe boaters. Boating never has, nor will it ever be, a totally risk free recreation.

help!!! small boat advice/experience needed
canadianguy33 replied to stuntman's topic in General Discussion
My brother has a 17' fiberglass (which is heavy as hell) with a 30hp on it and he used to tow it with an old '89 Honda Accord all the time and I can't imagine that any other car would have a problem with it. -
Sure, I've encountered some idiots on the water (especially the Trent Severn) and I can sympathize with your position, but, I'm strongly against boat licensing regulations. I'm sick and tired of having to fork over my hard earned cash to the government. I believe that some people are just going to be idiots whether they're licensed or not. Why the hell do honest, sensible people like me and you have to pay to go out on the water? I mean, the way we're regulated and taxed I'm starting to feel like big brother is impeding on my personal freedom. Why should I have to prove to the government that I know how to operate a boat? If I'm guilty of driving my boat like an asshat, then by all means fine me, however I won't pay for a boater's license just to make you "feel" safe on the water.

I had the same problem with my boat so I screwed a piece of plywood to attach the seat to. However, the screws that came with the seat didn't grip the plywood enough to stop my friend from breaking it when he leaned back. I think the easiest way to fix this would be to buy a bracket, but I guess you could double up the plywood, get long screws (or even better, use bolts with some big washers) and use some construction adhesive to secure the plywood to the seat, like Greencoach said. All in all, I'd really recommend the bracket though. I mean, it'll only take minutes to install, it'll last longer and will probably be stronger.

Wow! Unlike nearly everyone else, I've never seen that pic before. Thanks for posting it.

I keep a really messy boat so I always wear running shoes. I'm kind of surprised at how popular crocs are though. I thought my mom was the only that wore those things. lol

Need Help Creating Funny Fishing Tournament Rules

LOL That's f'ing brilliant Clamp! That's definitely going to be a rule...I think I'll incorporate it with the 'smallest fish' day. -
Hello all, As I said in my first thread here on OFC, I'm going on a fishing trip up north at the end of this month and the guys I'm going with are going to be competing in a mini tourney. Anyways, I made up quick little fish tracking chart for all of us to use and I thought maybe someone on this board might find it useful someday, so here it is. Just print out a bunch of copies and you're good to go. Cheers fishing_chart_day.pdf

Hey fishtat, I'm from peterborough. I've fished Rice lake quite a bit over the years (although I haven't been out there in a couple) those ones you nabbed look pretty good and to get a half dozen is better than normal from my memory. Good stuff!

@ Canuck2fan, I just saw your reply after I posted. I can't believe I forgot about first fish! lol I think the first fish rule will run daily, but I'm not sure what the "prize" will be for the winner....I think it'll be something other than money, but what? Any suggestions? edit: I'm so pumped about this trip, can you guys tell? lol -
Need Help Creating Funny Fishing Tournament Rules

Great ideas Joon! Keep them coming fellas! So far I've got the following games planned: Saturday - Most fish Sunday - Biggest fish Monday - Draw for partners most inches combined Tuesday - Smallest fish + all reels must be tightened (thanks Clamp ) Wednesday - South of the Border 6am - 12pm Thursday - Draw for partners most weight combined Friday - ???? Everyday we'll have the texas holdem rule (where the winners gets the bigger stacks) although I doubt we'll play poker every night. For the winner or winners of each daily event the rule will be that the winner can't open or fetch their own beer at anytime during the following day and the loser must pack the beer with ice in the winners boat. Also, the losers can't have anymore than 4 beers in their boat (as I stated in my opening post, the lake is pretty small so it'll be funny having the losing boat run across the lake for a beer refill or to simply open the winners beer ) Events/Games that will run the entire week (from a $250 prize pool) will be: 1. Biggest Pike wins $50 - $10 per person into the pot 2. Biggest Walleye wins $50 - $10 per person into the pot 3. Most fish wins $50 - $10 per person prize pool 4. Smallest fish wins $25 - $5 per person prize pool 5. Most inches wins $50 - $15 per person into the pot 6. Ugliest fish wins $25 - $5 per person into the pot What do you guys think? Does anyone have any really wacky and silly games. Like I said, we're not pro anglers. I'd implement a rule that the guy who catches the smallest fish has to fish naked, but it's a little too cold up north. lol -

Thanks Chef! This is exactly the type of stuff I'm looking for! Got any more ideas? I love this stuff. I just thought of another game idea so I'll share it. We all like to play texas holdem at night, so I thought this might be fun to integrate that with fishing. The bigger the fish, the bigger your starting chip stack in a nightly no limit texas holdem tournament. For example, here's how I'm thinking it would work with 5 people: - John catches the biggest fish so he gets 35% of the starting chips - Steve catches 2nd biggest fish so he gets 20% - the other 3 players each get 15% -
Need Help Creating Funny Fishing Tournament Rules

Hello fellow anglers, I hope the fishing has been great for everyone this year. At the end of this month, my brothers, my dad, a friend and I are going up north for our week long, fly-in fishing vacation. None of us are serious anglers, but we all have a competitive spirit and we thought that in between drinking beer and fishing it'd fun to organize a mini tournament. I'm trying to think up some "rules" for our little tourney, and I was wondering if you guys could offer some help. The lake we'll be on is pretty small (only about 2 miles long) and we'll be the only people there. Mainly, we'll be fishing for Walleye and Pike, but we'll catch some smallies I'm sure. Anyways, do any of you guys know of any unusual and fun ways to set up a mini tournament?
