  1. Don't be in a hurry just because you want a boat NOW!

If you are anxious, it leads to bad decisions. NEVER buy without first taking it out on the water.

If you are in doubt about the motor at all, do a compression check. Make sure the transom is sound.

    Amen.

You need to have the mind set that you are on the lookout for a boat, and not that you want one right now. The saying good things come to those who wait is true you know, I can sell my boat for nearly double what I payed. Since your looking for a 14' like I was I would consider a princecraft or a lund, but not with benches with swivel seats. This allows you to have much more room. Tiller is the way to go to maximize space, especially when you don't intend on motoring out far. Remember you spend 95% of your time fishing and 5% of the time driving your boat, so why not have the extra room. Although if you were in the market for a 18'+, then you have the room for a console. Princecrafts or Lunds are a little more pricey, but one of the best boats made. I find their designs really maximize the amount of space in the boat.

  2. I have noticed that I do see the line on the graph when jigging, and it responds with hardly any delay at all. But the jig really has to be directly underneath the transducer. It is a dual frequency 50/200khz and I run it on 200khz with automatic setting turned on. Do you guys recommend I set it on 50khz? Sounds like I really have to go see this Jos guy everybody and their grandmother has recommended him. Does anybody have his contact info? Thanks for all the replies!

  3. Hello All,

I'm in need of a new spinning rod and would appreciate a little input...

I dont want to spend too much money $50MAX, any suggestions? anyone use the BPS brand rods or Bowring rods? they are reasonably priced, and appear to be well made.

    thoughts??

If you fish for eyes or bass I would recommend a fenwick canadian methods spinning rod. You can easily identify the rod because it is dark red in colour, or just ask one of the staff members to show you where it is. It does not come with lifetime warranty, but I find the rod is more sensitive than my compre at half the price . I believe its around $60ish at bass pro last time i checked.

  4. i know rods can REALLY shyrocket in price, some of them are incredibly expensive!

    now lets be honest...

Is there really a big difference in a $30 rod and a $150 rod??

    if so, what is it?

Like you wouldn't believe. I would almost prefer to not fish then use a junk rod. Thats just me though. I dont even allow people that fish with me to use cheap gear, I always offer up my gear. It can be very costly, but if you fish often then you may as well do it right.

  5. If your a rod breaker, like me  , save the extra money and buy a rod that has lifetime warranty. Its the best money you will spend. I have got my moneys worth thats for sure, as I broke a shimano compre and a st croix avid. My recommendation: compre! Sooner or later you will catch the disease and desire expensive gear.

  6. Good job bud! Seeing as most of us are avid fisherman and we like to believe we know what were doing as we have put in so much time into the sport we love, it is always frustrating teaching somebody that is doing it for the first time, whether they have mental disabilities or not. I guess you could say I'm impatient as well. Good on you though! :clapping:

  7. For those that have lowrance units, do you notice it constantly makes a tick noise? I have the lcx27c and ever since i bought it, it makes this ticking noise. Last time I took the boat out of the water I left the unit on. And I can clearly hear that it is coming from the transducer, and when I put my finger on the bottom of the transducer, I can feel that the transducer is twitching. Is this normal? The sound sure is annoying. It is constant and never goes away. Another thing I noticed is that when I don't have fish ID on it never really marks fish, even with the sensitivity adjusted. Although this could have to do with it not being set up properly, but who knows. I know I have the transducer mounted correctly because it does scan the bottom at WOT (28mph). Any suggestions?

  8. Until you catch your first salmon trolling... then you'll never look at another river/small lake eye again

I wanted to put Chet Ripley (John Candy) from The Great Outdoors Movie... but screwed up and put Uncle Buck instead...

i liked it and stuck with it...

When you going to go back to basics and fish like it was orignally ment to be?
