  1. Put on any plates. A cop is not going to scan your plates for no reason. Drive smart and you will be fine. If I were you, I wouldn't even take the car to the mechanic. Drive the vehicle and make sure it drives nice, shifts nice, and no weird noises. Give it a few full throttle rips that will tell alot. If all that is ok, then the car is fine. You can tell alot about the way the car was treated just by the condition of the exterior and interior. The mechanic is going to ask you "what do you want me to do" aka how far are you willing to open your wallet? Waste of time in my opinion if your taking it to the mechanics to have it checked. Unless of course he is your friend and will do it for free. What are the details of the car? Make, km, year?

  2. isn't launching it more of weight distribution and tongue weight capacity issues?

The tongue weight your car can handle but its the tongue pushing down the rear end and lifting the front that is taking away from your traction. Wish I could show you a picture of my 92 jetta towing my boat. It would be considered a comedy show to watch me pull the boat out . Good luck on a wet ramp is all I have to say. Its like being at a drag strip and warming up the tires before you make a run. Hey Unclebuck do your small little arms hurt still from pushing down on the front end so it gets traction?

  3. The car definetely has the power to do it. Being manual it will take on the hills with ease. You will definetely have problems at the launch though. You will be losing traction in the front from all the weight being loaded on the back like GCD mentioned above, and you will put alot of strain on your clutch. If it helps things my dad owned a 2004 jetta tdi wagon and I actually asked the dealer mechanic if I could get away with towing a boat (1000lbs) with the car and he recommended that I don't do it, although he said it could do it. Welcome to the world of boating and spending never endless money :thumbsup_anim:

  4. I agree with Dara. You shouldn't be protecting people that keep more fish than they should in the freezer, or be tipping off people to look out just incase they practise this regularily. Shows how much the locals care about the fishery

  5. Trickle chargers are NOT designed to charge deep cycle batteries. They can cause damage to these very expensive deep cycle batteries. His best charger would be a good onboard marine charger.........not to mention from what I have read he has a 24 volt system in his boat........so that would also be a good reason NOT to use a portable trickle charger.

I think I'm going to disagree with you on this one. When I bought my boat it was once owned by an electrician, and he had a 1.5A onboard charger in the boat. I have also read on this board that charging it slowly is best.

    Can anybody else clarify this?

  6. They definetely don't need a warrant to enter. Some of the senior board members will remember this, but a while back a CO went into Anglers Kingdom and demanded that the owner open the door to one of the cabins when the people were not even there to have a look in the freezer.

Its always possible for them to land in. You do see them coming though, so use that to your advantage if you can. Although I'm sure they are watching you with binoculars before they even land to see if your nervous and panicking. Get drunk before you go out if your that worried about it.

  7. about 10 years ago was out fishing opening weekend of walleye with my father in law and brother in law

there was about ten boats fishing the same area (river outlet)

one small skiff with a 20hp yammy had two guys in fishing in it when we arrived at the spot

they trolled past and said hi hows it going blah blah blah

and show us the two eyes they have on the stringer

a little while later they head over to shore and have a little fish fry

we fished away from the crowd and caught a few slot size eyes

well an hour goes by and the two guys get back in the boat and start fishing again

they troll up to us and the usual hows it going any luck questions

we say ya we got a few

    out comes the badges

measure up the fish (all within slot size) ok lets see the licenses

bro in law left his wallet at home so no license on him

co says ok come into the office monday morning and show the license and no ticket (thought that was decent of him)

funny thing though while they were checking us about six boats took off ..wonder why?

    good to see them out

They know this trick far to well. I have herd that while they are checking somebody, they will stop and not even complete their check if they see other boats taking off, and they will begin to chase them down. By them taking off it lets them know that they are doing something wrong for sure.

  8. Just sounds like your typical 20 somethings.

I know I thought I was invincible at that age.

I can guarantee that they just grew up in a hurry and will likely never drink and drive again.

20's people are not the only ones who drink and drive boats. I bet the older guys do it more than they do, as not many 20 year olds can even afford a boat. Sure alcohol is a major factor to consider here, but that is not to say that this exact scenario couldn't of happened if they were sober. Anything can happen out there.
