  1. That fish hit a small panfish sized jig/live minnow. The rod was in a wire holder and I just happened to see it twitch out of the corner of my eye, as I picked it up and felt the weight of a fish I handed it to her and she thumped em and the 10 min battle on 6lb test began. Having to shove the rod down into the hole several times and the reel just a screamin. The owner of Chilly Willy's was there and he reached down the hole on a second attempt to land it and came up with it. It sure made the trip a beauty. Too bad the weather really sucked on the way home. It took us 4 hours to get to Orillia and then once we hit Barrie clear skies. Kitchener looked the same as Gravenhurst when we pulled into town.

  2. Hey guys/gals finally we get out for some of the hardwater action. Headed up to Chilly Willys for the weekend to fish the South Bay area. We were pleasantly surprized when we arrived, the fish were on. We had a few good bites right off the hop, but missed em. Then jigging a buckshot and minnow I picked up a nice eye in the slot so he was promptly released.

The local railway workin guys were out at their shack close to us and had found a pattern for decent eyes, they were cookin em as quik as they were catchin em. But the bite slowed for us.

The next day after breakfast the bite started again. My wife got serious with this 38" and decided its time to show everyone how to land a pike.

Then the bite was gone for the majority of the day til later in the afternoon when I iced this little guy.

In total we didn't have numbers but we did get some fish. A few perch and the one eye, and a couple of pike. Overall the accomodations were great and the company was as good.

We were both sick this weekend and thought some fresh northern air might help. She battling a head and chest cold and I fighting the flu. We would recommend http://www.chillywillys.ca/ to anyone, the heated jonny was a nice addition to our ice weekend. B)

  3. When fishing for Pannies I use maggots, waxworms and pieces of minnows.

When fishing for Pike I use minnows and usually deadstick a large one.

When fishing for Walleye I use jigs and Berkely Grubs tipped with a minnow or piece of.

When fishing for trout I use a spoon and pc of minnow.

When fishing for ideas I use OFC.

  4. Screw the peanuts Rich, they have proven of late to be nothing but snacks, no luck involved. Go back to the apple fritters and brown pops, or fireball...lol. Keep at er Rich "if you book them they will come" lol. We will have to get together soon and discuss the finer things in life and as soon as you aren't paying attention to the rods they will pop off and FISH ON. Good luck.

  5. I buy mine at Tall Tales in Cambridge. Carefully hooked they don't make too much mess but I'm all cold thumbs and have some difficulty and by using 3-4 at a time it means less baiting. I use them on teardrop jigs, jiggin spoons, plain hooks, jigging raps, whatever I tie on will get several maggots on the hooks. And yes they are better than minnows most days. Pannies usually just want a light snack not a big meal...lol. Hey Gerrit or anyone else who uses them if you didn't already know....if you keep them at fridge temp without freezing they usually last for several weeks before turning brown and then just toss em...remember to keep them dry too.

  6. Thats a really good idea, my wife and I do that with our life vests in the summer regularily. I usually don't ever go on the ice unless its 4-6" of good black. I'm too heavy and have broken thru on several occasions in the past(just my leg) usually my left leg cause thats where all the food goes that I pack away.lol. B)

  7. I'm quite comfortable in my Eskimo Quik Flip II with the blackcat, but I think my blood is rather thin anyways. I thought about gettin Mr. Heater but opted for the cheaper Coleman. Might try the Mr. Heater in a year or two. Gotta git me a video camera or a Vex first.

  8. Some anglers always carry safety items like ice picks and cleats...well I always carry bait and food with me on every outing. Wayne if ya go drill a few holes in and around your dock cause fish will hold on it in the winter as well as summer. If thats a bust try a little deeper and in the direction of your PBs. Other than that just make a snowball spin around and chuck it where it lands drill a hole do that three consecutive times and then just jig the holes for 5 min each and rotate thru them. You will catch something to eat. Confidence is half the game. Keepin warm is the other half. B)

  9. Thats a shame about your friend hope all is well. Ya know some people will always be stooges and try to bring others to there level, but you be bigger and let them look foolish, you be the bigger person so to speak. Thats all...look where its comin from...Once I have said my peace and did my rant I feel better besides they don't know the guys and we do. All is well and let fools be fools, they will never be anything more than fools. :thumbsup_anim:
