  1. Clearly Double Digits likes common lures. Thank goodness after all there's always live bait. For the rest of the guys here, there's a reason top anglers use Japanese lures when money is involved or they want to max out their success. Bottom line is if you are satisfied with Rapalas or any other "domestic" lures you are missing LOTS of fish virtually antwhere you fish around the GTA or even southern Ontario. Same goes for quality spinnerbaits over the 3 for $10 ones you see on bait store racks. Quality lures take research and execution to manufacture, just like cars, boats, clothes etc. Even in remote locations where the fish are not conditioned quality Japanese lures will consitently out fish Rapalas and the other American hardbait products (except Hildebandts of course) This is somthing virtually all dedicated high profile anglers know (but frequently do not tell to the general public)

    Elevator pitch!

    LOL

  2. I was there on the weekend as well. 20%off rapalas was an awesome deal! never see newer rapalas going on sale here. updated my collection with a bunch of the new clackin baits.

kills me how much cheaper sporting goods are in the states; bought a hockey helmet there (bauer 7500) for only $120, retails for $180 here! must be economies of scale.

waited 2.5 hrs to eat at the cheesecake factory...not worth it. however, watching the leafs pull a win out while surrounded by groaning buffalonians, priceless!

  3. It's not so much the unrest in places like Libya that throws our gas prices up, our gas prices are affected more by speculative day traders than what is happening in Libya. All their oil goes to Europe...

It doesn't help that they tax the crap out of our fuel at the pumps either.

somethings gotta give but it never does! The kicker is that all this speculation drives prices up, however, there is NO correction, EVER! argh!!!

  4. Gadhafi is a nut bar, no doubt. I cant believe the UN hasnt stepped in to take control of the chaos there. He should be charged along the same line that Saddam was, crimes against humanity. He's already got away with murder before; Lockerbie bombimg. You gotta love the sculpture of the golden fist rising from the ashes of his bombed out compound clutching an american f-18, priceless!

IMHO, Our gas prices are affected more by speculative day traders than what is happening in Libya. All their oil goes to Europe...

What kills me is that there is no correction in these fluctuations, EVER!

  5. I went this weekend, early on saturdays morning the parking lot was packed. I thought the seminars were AWESOME, however, i thought the sales were less than impressive. in fact, most vendors seemed to have jacked their prices for the show which annoys me (I love the buy 3 rapalas deals for $25 - no claks or x-raps either); Radioworld was selling the Navionics HotMaps for Canada for $110 plus tax, not a bad deal.

All in all I was a little less than impressed, but again, seminars made up for a lot.

  6. I'm thinking of picking one of these reels up, havent use a low profile baitcaster in a while now.

Any of you familiar with this model and willing to share some feedback?? reviews online seem to be pretty good.

Any other reels you would like to suggest?

    thanks!

  7. So we ended up fishing on simcoe at the 9th line. rented a hut from Adam Goy, great guy! drove us out to our hut, which he had warmed up for us, set us up with bait, and gave us some useful pointers as were pretty green to fishing the hardwater. We were fishing in 93fow. not much action all day long, did manage to land a perch 90 feet down! didnt think they went that deep. Adam says the patterns have been strange this winter, he believes its cause the herring are starting to make a re surgence in the lake. we did notice that HUGE schools of fish started to show up on our sonar at around 3:30pm, we were anticipating some action at that time, but before we knew it, it was time to head home.

all in all, adam was a great guide. we will be back to give it another shot in a couple weeks.

JEEZ! fishing the hard water is tough...

  8. Adams rental hut is real close to mine. I got a few whitefish and a bunch of perch (strange not the norm) in our hut so far so you should have some action.

    Good luck

    Hoppy

thats great news Hoppy!! thanks for the much needed confidence booster!

were you using jigging spoons or jig head n minnow?

  9. Hi all,

A friend and I are planning to hit the hardwater this weekend (we're newbies to icefishing) and were looking to rent a hut on simcoe, preferrably somewhere between Gilford and Lefroy.

Any idea who I can call for a hut rental??

    thanks for the input!

    adam
