  1. For a few years around 1999 we got onto a drop shot style rig and did well in tournaments on Simcoe and other big water smallie lakes. We used a 1/2oz tube(no hook most the time) as the weight then a powerbait grub a foot above it. We could go into high pressured areas and still pick fish off. We got onto this technique fishnig the Niagara bar one year for lakers.

At that time we used a 6'6 M spin, 8lb Pline or trilene, 1/0 bait hook, grub and 1/2oz 90 degree tube.

There is no doubt others have been fishing it for years before that, we just made it work for us and the smallies.

It's sure been refined since then. Rods, Lines, hooks, bait and weights are all made just for this technique.

A very prodcutive and fun way to fish once you get dailed into it.

  2. Pete, I am aiming for Prince Edward county area myself. Bay of Quinte, Wellington and other waters within a short jaunt for both hunting and fishing. Hospitals and for some reason the 401 just seems faster for getting to the big smoke if need be.

  3. When I was getting into retriever trials with my balck lab Remmy, one of the older gents taught me to bang pots and pans, yell, make other loud noises when the pup was eating. The dog would then associate loud noises with a "happy" time.

Either of my labs were ever gun shy or afraid of loud noises, I assume the above was the reason why.

  4. You can certainly use a baitcast set up for drop shotting.

However, a spinning set up will allow you to use thinner diameter line, as well you get a lot better feel with a properly matched spinning rod for this technique. IMO

I use a 7'6 Light action for drop shot, 4 - 6lb test and thin gauge hook. I drop shot a lot and many of the big smallmouth I have boated were done so drop shotting.

    Edit to add;

Paul that rod would be a good one for light senko or fluke fishing.

  5. I agree with who ever mentioned a tinny with a 20 to 40HP. More bang for your buck. Find something with a high deck and you'll be good to go.

For that budget you'll end up with a 1982 glass boat with the same yr motor. You are better off waiting until you have 10-15g's to spend on a bass boat. IMO.

    Then you'll buy a 18ft and the next year you'll get the 2footitis and want a 20ft. ;)

    It's a vicious circle!

  6. It must be a pain in theasshat.gif unhooking a fish from that rig.Especially if it gets hooked by all 10 of the trebles from 5 lures.wallbash.gif

Actually it is no problem at all. Pike love this thing, I used swimbaits (4 hooks), but I plan on trying some inline spinners on the rig this weekend.

  7. I liked the article. eCommerce is a fickle biz model to say the least, especially here in Canada. Lots of leaning curves through trail and error over the few years I've been doing it.

As an online retailer I love the challenge of eCommerce and I love competition, it breeds creativity.

As a consumer, our family shops online a lot more now then ever. Just got our girls their baseball gloves and cleats shipped to our front door for a great deal and $10 bucks shipping.

I like the "Carrot on a Stick" analogy above when it comes to US pricng and products. So true, I hear about it often.

    Thanks for posting the article.
