  1. for 2 summers, about 5-6years ago -I'd pour bird seed on the deck while that bear ran her nose up my arm like a dog would. She'd set in the backyard all afternoon with us. I even ran a planer, table saw, etc. when I built our kitchen ...didn't bother her. (She'd eat all kinds of stuff EXCEPT HOT DOGS !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! cooked...nope !!) Kinda interesting...that bear ( the one in front) I named Billy Bear... is tagged & tracked by the PA Game Commission...she's now 10 years old ( by there study)..she hibernates in an area about 25 miles from my house ( known as the Hickory Wilderness Area), She is smart enough to get in her cave a week or so BEFORE bear season... She's still around, but, Last year I got a dog that chases her up over the hill...so ,this year, she comes at night...tears up the bird feeders..
  2. Thread & finish don't add much weight to a 7' bass rod. A 5' ultralite...yes, shorter guide wraps, permagloss finish rather than gobbed on flexcoat, and setting the rod up with one less guide are a few ways to 'tweak' ( lighten) ( balance) the rod. A little extra thread / finish behind the reel seat is hard to tell the difference.

  4. A little dish soap & scrub pad will bring the EVA back to new. Falcons have been around...possibly, like loomis, under several different owners...a little research is required here.. Loomis....once the Caddilac, & strongly supported by the custom builders, now will discontinue blank mfg. 12/31....
  5. I get requests for split grips. If that's what they want, that's what the get. Personally...I can't see the reason. Some say it's to reduce weight. In reality, that amout of weight is miniscule. In a long rear grip baitcaster, I can see where the extra 'edges' could be a pain in the butt. Catching on stuff & clothing .. On a spinner, I personally like a 'tip light' rod, so the tiny extra weight behind the reel helps to balance the rod to my liking. The only advantage I see to a split grip is it's another place for a decorative thread wrap or decals to personalize the rod to the customer. I think you should borrow a split grip rod from your buddy & fish it a couple hours....then make your own decision.
  6. Nice !!!!!!! Do it as often as possible !!!!! They grow up SOOOOO Fast. My "little guy" is 5'10" & driving the boat
  7. Allegheny National Forest ( my backyard) hosts some nice wildlife... on my back deck stumbled upon this.. we have these, too.. I participated in a " Rods for Troops" program...donated...this rod wound up aboard a US Navy ship a few recent rods... match my truck a few assorted grips red/white/black grips & threadwrap to match all for now..more after our week in your backyard..
  8. Oh...here's a shot of pork loin & Beef Brisket I just took off the smoker for dinner next Wed. on Chemong a few more goodies smokin' smoker tends to draw my 'Fan Club".. Looks like I figured how to post pics.
  9. As a rodbuilder, I Luv Bass guys. They can't tie knots. They have the wife tie 45 lures to rods for the day...they just change rods Then the rods come to me every Monday to replace the stepped on guides from the weekend tourneys
  10. I say JOHN DEERE ROCKS !! at least , it DID I never even drove a big Deere, let alone take a class. I just decided I wanted to work in the woods..& dove in head first. I started in the logging bus. when I was 23. I started skidding with a 'Hoopie'...a cut down Army surplus truck with a winch & arch. I suffered thru that for a year & a half. Scrounged up enough $$ to but a used 1969 John Deere 540A series beat to hell unit that should have been put to sleep. But,, again, I suffered thur cold winters & hot buggy summers for amost 4 more years, till I got to where I could buy...a Brand new out of the box 540D model. WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!$76,000 was a LOT of money in 1986, with $2000/month payments, I just busted ass & that particular machine was a Saint !!!!!!! I ran it 6 years before it had to go in the shop the first time. But, I did a TON of maintainence ( Sundays) , to keep her fresh. The logging business took a dump 15 years ago & I sold out, to my truck driver. To this day, that ol' skidder is still working. Make a decision..then GO for it... fear of failure=wasting time.

  16. I've built hundreds of rods using plain ol' 5-min. epoxy.Sets in minutes, strong, & can be easily removed with a touch of heat from a BIC lighter.
  17. Hmmm. thanks... but, I want to stay around the Lindsay area...
  18. for A) pickeral crappie in that order Oh...in early June
  19. Hate to sound anal-redundant..but...what/when is the opener? We get up there early June & the crappie hit crawler harnesses like crazy & wondered when it was "really hot' crappie fishing on Chemong...
  20. When is the peak of Crappie season on Chemong / Buckhorn ?
  21. The largest walleye came off a harness with a big pink rubber worm I used white Mr. Twisters on a harness..worked very well
  22. Yes on the crawlers...no dirt..must be in bedding. in 12 years of crossing, We've never had a hint of a problem crossing either way...except the first time I took my 10 yr. old. The gal at the booth going into Canada asked for a NOTORIZED permission slip from my wife to take the kid across...after a little hesitation, she let us go...lesson learned. Since then, I've never been asked for anything more than a photo ID
  23. Wed. June 13 we 'landed' at Redwing Cottages on Chemong for a weeks R&R. Eight guys & 2 kids fished Chemong & Buckhorn. We boated 3 muskies, a couple dozen Walleye, Hords of nice LM Bass, & about 6 tons of Crappie & Panfish. By Friday afternoon, we had exhausted our 2 flats of crawlers , so we went on a safari to find crawlers. Seems the ave price is $2.50 / doz. But , the fella at the baitshop in Bridgenorth sold us a flat for $40. Now, I Thought that was pretty nice of him to not poke a tourist in the butt, like he could have Needless to say, Next year I will buy all our crawlers from him instead of hauling them clear up there. What a stretch of weather !!! not a drop of rain till Monday..then only a few drops. We got quite toasted with the sun ,thou. & 2 of us guys got our nipples bit ( drew tiny spots of blood !! ) by your meat eating bluegills while swimming!!! Don't you folks feed them things ? My 12th year of the Kawarthas vacation...another fine trip ! Who knows what next year will bring..a lot of the guys don't want to mess with getting a passport
  24. Does the CG charge a 'fee' for towing you in ? I have heard it's a hefty bill..
