me personally going to be tossing, olive/black beadhead hares ears, and olive/yellow stone fly nymps, as well wooly buggers, these are my go to flies when nothing else works, i tie one of these on and have at her

A lot of the dollars spent on the Atlantic program are donated specifically for that purpose. Using that money for other species is not an option. And some of those dollars are spent on stream rehabilitation.

 

There is some hope for the Atlantic stocking. The new strains, Sebago and Lac St. Jean are now in the system. These strains do much better in the hatchery. The Lehav salmon are extremely sensitive. There water needs to be heated in order for them to feed, they die if you turn the lights on too quickly, half of them die when they are stocked. The new strains are much more resiliant... at least in the hatchery. Hopefully, this will translate into better returns.

 

Stocking the Lehav strain over the last 40 or so years has been a waste of time. I think the Sebago and Lac St. Jean will do better.

personally, i'll go for anything, whether it be steelhead or salmon in the tribs, or panfish off a dock somewhere. I don't own a boat, so for me its strictly shore fishing, i get out on lake ontario maybe once a year, so for me, to feel the tug of a salmon from shore is a thrill

for those asking what fishery the ministry has given us.......lake ontario. we fished to near extinction just over a hundred years ago, and through stocking efforts of the late 1800's through to now, they've managed to provide a pretty good salmon and steelhead fishery. sorry if its not your preferred species, but something is better than nothing.

what they really need to do is revamp the atlantic salmon program, how many millions of atlantics have been dumped into the tribs over the years, and how many are actually returning, its a pretty low number

its the nature of the bait caster not the line. for tension, tighten the spool down so the bait falls to ground under its own weight, but when it hits the ground, the spool only does about a half turn more. the rest is on you, ie stopping the spool with your thumb as the bait hits the water to prevent over run

If they have a loop at one end and are kind of hollow at the other, I have used them before. Your line goes into the hollow end and tension is supposed to lock in your line. If you can't get your line to go in very far, put a pin in the tube end and roll it back. Remove pin, insert line, and roll back. For security, a couple drops of crazy glue.

i tried these last year, never again. was ready to net a nice steel head, and then it was gone, the braided loop pulled right off my line, i think the cold effects it and the fly line shrinks more then the braided material. fish , fly and my entire leader gone.

now, i buy welded loop fly lines, or tie a perfection loop at the end

its for when fly lines don't come with a welded loop built in, this is a way of making a loop and attaching it to your fly line to make a loop to loop connection, which is far easier and faster then doing a nail knot

The coyote has been described as "the most vocal of North American wild mammals...", whose vocal proclivity lead to its being given the binomial name Canis latrans, meaning "barking dog". At least 11 different vocalizations are known in adult coyotes. These sounds are divided into three categories: 1) Agonistic and alarm, 2) Greeting, and 3) Contact. regardless, the offence didn't show up for Dickey, but their pitcher threw a good game as well, one bad inning was all it took. otherwise it could very have been a 1-0 game

I've been fishing the Kawarthas for 60 odd years and can honestly say in all that time I've been checked by a CO exactly ONE time, and that wasn't even for fishing. It was opening day of duck season and he wanted to know if I heard anyone shooting before sunrise.

 

No wonder so many people break the fishing rules with no worries.

didn't think they could remove the filler once its in there, thats the problem they had with the previous surface, it was sand and rubber pellets, and the sand compacted in there making it really hard

its brand new so it doesn't have all the filler in it that the old turf did, so right now, the blades are long and slows the ball down, wait til year 3 and see how fast it is

one trend i've noticed so far, every single pitch has been on the outside half to every single jays hitter, and teams are still playing them to pull. would love to see them straighten out that shift

My dad still uses the same setup he bought 40 years for $35, Zebco Cardinal 4, he bought for $20, still has the box with the price tage, and a blue rod he bought for $15, the blue varnish/paint on the rod is long gone, and its now a mix of black and clear graphite, his cardinal reel still in perfect condition.

my rods range from $20-$900, the rod I use for pier casting for salmon is a $25 spinning rod from Gander Mountain! I love it, it was my first stream fishing rod. casting is smooth and easy, and it handles the big fish with ease
