  1. Forget the boat we will do much better on dry land.

Mike is going to be playing in the water again lol

    See you guys tomorow

i'll put my trash talking on hold until after tomorrow.. just remember that last day on the ice when you were outfished by a ginger kid..

  2. That is why I have for the last 10 yrs fed my animals raw food....but to each their own....oh and don't forget, the vets learn animal nutrition from reps at the pet food compnaies, and it's a very small portion of their schooling....

    Maureen

maureen, do you feed your dogs raw meaty bones, etc?

i've been looking to make the switch to a raw diet for a while, but the info is overwhelming..

    mike

  3. rick, you might wanna look at feeding him BARF.. theres lots of reading material out there on it, but you know exactly what he's getting and you dont have to worry about companies changing their recipes on a whim.. that said, and i imagine it will happen here now that i've mentioned it, there's lots of debate on it.. think tiller vs. console, braid vs. mono, 2 stroke vs. 4 stroke lol..

we feed our bulldog Orijen 6 Fish.. they're a canadian company and it's a little pricier but if he's got some good allergies and if an extra $15-$20 / bag is going to keep him from scratching his ears and paws it's worth it..

here's the system that you use to score the food you're feeding (pinched from another site)

"How to grade your dog's food: (Some brands are done at the very bottom]

Start with a grade of 100:

    1) For every listing of "by-product", subtract 10 points

    2) For every non-specific animal source ("meat" or "poultry", meat meal or fat) reference, subtract 10 points

    3) If the food contains BHA, BHT, or ethoxyquin, subtract 10 points

    4) For every grain "mill run" or non-specific grain source, subtract 5 points

    5) If the same grain ingredient is used two or more times in the first five ingredients (i.e. "ground brown rice", "brewer's rice", "rice flour" are

all the same grain), subtract 5 points

    6) If the protein sources are not meat meal and there are less than two

meats in the top three ingredients, subtract 3 points

    7) If it contains any artificial colorants, subtract 3 points

8 ) If it contains ground corn or whole grain corn, subtract 3 points

    9) If corn is listed in the top five ingredients, subtract 2 more points

    10) If the food contains any animal fat otherthan fish oil, subtract points

    11) If lamb is the only animal protein source (unless your dog is allergic to other protein sources), subtract 2 points

    12) If it contains soy or soybeans, subtract 2 points

    13) If it contains wheat (unless you know that your dog isn't allergic to wheat), subtract 2 points

    14) If it contains beef (unless you know that your dog isn't allergic to beef), subtract 1 point

    15) If it contains salt, subtract 1 point

    Extra Credit:

    1) If any of the meat sources are organic, add 5 points

    2) If the food is endorsed by any major breed group or nutritionist, add 5 points

    3) If the food is baked not extruded, add 5 points

    4) If the food contains probiotics, add 3 points

    5) If the food contains fruit, add 3 points

    6) If the food contains vegetables (NOT corn or other grains), add 3 points

    7) If the animal sources are hormone-free and antibiotic-free, add 2 points

8 ) If the food contains barley, add 2 points

    9) If the food contains flax seed oil (not just the seeds), add 2 points

    10) If the food contains oats or oatmeal, add 1 point

    11) If the food contains sunflower oil, add 1 point

    12) For every different specific animal protein source (other than the first one, count "chicken" and "chicken meal" as only one protein source, but "chicken" and "" as 2 different sources), add 1 point

    13) If it contains glucosamine and chondroitin, add 1 point

    14) If the vegetables have been tested for pesticides and are pesticide-free, add 1 point

    94-100+ = A

    86-93 = B

    78-85 = C

    70-77 = D

    69 = F

  4. I've got a power drive, which I use almost exclusively on "cruise control". I find the "gas" pedal a bit jerky. Be careful with those things, last year mine broke and was stuck on full speed! The first time it happened when I turned it on nearly fired me right out of the boat.

thats been the cause of a couple meltdowns for me.. i've got an old one, and every once and a while it'll work in opposite mode too... ie take foot off pedal and it goes full speed, put foot on and it stops...

  5. Just to add my cent and a half , I think its wrong to steal . But than when I see the cost of some dvds !!!! now who is stealing !! I traded tapes with all my friends in the day we didnt have internet than but we all had tape decks, never thought of it as stealing just shareing stuff with my friends . Once I BUY the record or tape etc. does it not become mine and am I not free to do what I want with My Stuff can I not share it with my friends , Am I supposed to burn all the books I read after im finished in case someone else might read them ???I think if I use your material CHRIS to make some money maybe I should pay you "MAYBE", but once I buy your material is it not now mine , to do what I like ????

you can legally make copies of them for your own use.. as rick said earlier, you're levied on all your recordable media and recording devices.. that actually makes it legal to duplicate for personal use..

i'm pretty sure it was illegal to do back in the tape deck days.. the problem wasn't that big of a deal because people weren't digitally recording and mass distributing via the internet back then..

the book analogy doesnt work.. to make it work you'd have to think of it along the lines of photocopying each page and giving that to your friends..

the way i understand it you can give your old books away..

either way downloading copywrited material is wrong.. i dont go to the car dealership and just take a car because they're overpriced..

when my wife or someone asks me what software package to download in order to get music, i tell them iTunes.. you pay a buck a song (or whatever it is) and its yours, legal, and you dont have to worry about inadvertantly downloading something bad...

and in my experience playing the guitar is considerably more difficult than writing a computer program..

  6. if you've got health benifits, go see an athletic therapist..

i went to a chiro for a trigger point in my neck/trap and i'll never ever go back to one..

i can recommend a really good one in mississauga if you want..

you can try to pm member svukavics here.. he's a kinesiologist, and helped me sort out shoulder problems in the past.. dont know how often he gets on though..

  7. Eastview Lake Lodge...

Greatcottage resort, a fello by the na,e of George runs the show up there. Picks you up at teh government docks and its about a 5 km ride to his island.

Laker fishing there is phenomanal! Walleye fishing was ok, but apparently it has declined.

there are MASSIVE pike in Kipawa!! George has pics of 50"'s he pulled out in the eighties.

We had great luck with pike on some of the small lakes that border kipawa, short portage away, where we could catch one on almost every cast!

we used leadcore line for lakers and caught em all day long! everyday!

walleye successes from bouncing twistertails on 1/4oz jigs over structure/current

the pike will hit just about anything that catched their attention, so go big or go home.

    i highly reccomend Eastvilake lodge.

    btw...

the conservation officers on the lake are militant, so fork out the extra bucks for the QC license and mind the size restrictions on the lakers and have fun!!

awesome info.. july wont get here quick enough for me..

is there truth to being able to drink on the boat out there?

  8. Is that around the Lac Beauchene area. If so , Ive always had my eyes on a map looking at that lake to Tackle. Love to hear how you guys make out.

i think Lac Beauchene is just south of lake kipawa...

For the last 9 years, I've taken a one week fishing trip to Lake Kipawa. The lake is about 50 miles long and full of structure. Bathymetric maps are available for the complete system. Walleye and lake trout are probably the main prey for the majority of fishermen fishing those waters. Regardless, northern pike can easily be found if that's what you're after. I believe there are 24 or 25 outfitters on the lake. Some are drive-in while the majority are boat-in. With respect to accommodations, there's lots of choice. American Plans and Housekeeping Plans are available.

nice tomcat.. i think we're going to be targetting mainly walleyes and pike... any idea on what patterns typically produce? how bout live bait? can you use live shinners up there?

    mike

  9. Has anyone ever had the pleasure of fishing this body of water? We are looking at booking a trip for late Spring/early Summer and wondering if this lake has decent fishing. Looking at targeting pike and walleyes. Any lodging recommendations?

    Thank you,

    Tom

    Hey Tom,

we're headin up to Alwaki Lodge in July.. i've been checking out http://www.kipawa.net seems to be lots of area specific info there...

  10. i'm not a mechanic, nor do i know a heck of a lot about motors, just can speak from experience..

i went from a yammy 25hp 2-stroke to the f20 late last year..

i noticed a big difference in fuel consumption, but the 25 was fairly old, and something was buggered with it (hence it finally blowing up)..

the f20 was brutal at first.. finally got the proper pitch prop and its golden now.. the only thing i've noticed is if i get a big 2nd guy in the boat it takes a while to plane out (it wont plane with 3 of us) whereas with the 25, i'd get it up on a plane fairly quickly (still wouldnt plane with 3 of us)..

i'm not going to enter it in any races, but it gets me from spot to spot just fine.. its quiet, super easy to maintain (if i can winterize it, it's gotta be easy because me = dumb)..
