Thank you for explaining and thanks for what you said. We have to say we don't know how "zombie" they all where when a few of these fish took 20 plus minutes to land and numerous fish had no problem breaking us off. Assuming we stepped into a bigger "issue" here on this forum again... so much drama lol like sponsors and fishing location should we now modify our salmon report just for this forum that only has the little fish that eat the roe and run back down river?! **eye rolling** Thanks everyone else for reading and enjoying.

Highly infectious and extremely addictive. There is no known cure, once exposed to it will shape your life. Even while writing this, the aftermath still rumbles through our veins. The only wish is to go back, do it again, regardless the tiredness and exhaustion we are left with. An encounter with a creature that is simply raw power, in its absolute prime, driven with the mindset that there are no obstacles. These fish are determined to go on and will put your every skill to test. Mastering the learning curve was quiet a challenge but accomplished rather quickly. Rob is the first one to have an audience with the true king of all rivers. Having met his distant cousins, the illusive lake trout, he knew he was in for a treat. A barrage of unstoppable runs laid ahead of him but skill and patients turned this fight in to a first victory. We scouted out potential resting spots, deep pools and breaks in the fast current. Getting familiar with the hunting ground is vital. Knowing your way around treacherous terrain will give you the confidence of being able to chase after these behemoth when they take off. Flexibility is key to success, the fish dictates the speed of the game. When a 30lb torpedo with a brain and a seemingly unlimited power source decides to go, it will, just because it can. You don't tire these beasts out they take you out for a ride. Once we draw first blood the thirst for it was unquenchable. The day goes by drifting single roe eggs under a float with a tiny split shot just heavy enough to make it bounce naturally in the current. Learning to deal with the temper of a bull, these big fish set the true mark on how to combat any big prey. Later in the afternoon Smooth hooks up with that giant shadow that was resting in a deep pool. His cast was placed text book, slowly floating down stream, one little burst and this King couldn't resist, snap and set and fight. So far this was the biggest fish we have seen all day and it took several runs up and down the ladders to finally get this beast to surrender. This is the proud smile of a skilled hunter that gave his very best and more to tackle and conquer this royal highness. Exhausted but satisfied there is no time to celebrate as the next hookup is already in motion. We are mostly tag teaming these beautiful creatures but sometimes you find your self alone and its just you and the fish. No assistance in landing or friendly coaching advise, this is where push comes to shove. Single handedly landing a fish like this is a challenge. We love challenges. Time always goes by way to fast when you are having fun and way to soon its time to pack it in, John and I where playing the last cast game, over and over. The last chance saloon was about to close its doors as John hooks up once more. At this point my attention is all on my self as a tank of a salmon decides to put my last strength to the test. Taking me on an epic run downstream, there is nothing you can do to stop it, hanging on is all there is left. The drag set as tight as possible, while still allowing some line to escape from the spool is the only way to put a little pressure on these fish. A mad chase unravels as rocks and boulders fly by on the way down, one eye on the fish the other on the terrain, trying not to turn this in to a total disaster. A couple of long agonizing minutes later and she is all mine. The face says it all! A trip of a life time, tired and exhausted, deeply satisfied we are on the retrieve back home. Laughing and already reminiscing, celebrating this wicked day. Having the chance to meet the king up close and personal was an incredible experience. It feels like once you successfully handled a fish of this magnitude there is no challenge left that can't be tackled anymore. Tight lines

Chevy and I have been trying to hit the water all year and unfortunately we couldn't get things together. With him heading back to school in a week we FINALLY found a day that we both had off to go hut some Largies. Oddly the Smallies didn't get the memo.... BUT thankfully Chevy is a Largie whisperer and know exactly where they were hiding... Let the games begin... I told Chevy it wouldn't be a day of fishing if I didn't see that smile... so he caught one worth smiling about. I had to step up my game in the presents of the whisperer and catch the highlight! ... we had a couple of curve balls that ended our day a little early - I will leave that report to Chevy! Not the BOOM we wanted!!! All and all an amazing morning on the water and the wait was definitely worth it. Hopefully it won't take a whole season for us to get back on the water again together soon ... that smile I just have to see in person again. LEGENDARY!!! Thanks for a great day Chevy ... until next time! Tight Lines.... Smooth

We have had quite the entertaining summer so far with large opportunities to get out on friends boats and our own Militant boat. Just exploring new waters, creating new friendships and taking in all of the exciting adventures. These experiences combined with the high water levels on the rivers around Ottawa left us missing home this summer. However after a couple of solid weeks of the water levels dropping we were finally able to plan a few outings to get our feet wet. Thursday was the start of three outing we have planned - Bass picked up the highlight with this BEAUTY!! Some solid footage, lots of fish and a gorgeous morning in the river - FELT GREAT! A couple of more wading trips this week and a video in the making... Tight lines! Rob & Rob

LOL - 3 or 4 times a summer you say right? Sorry Mr. Whitespinnerbait I didn't realize who was chimming in on this. Go with what he says - but I still recommend coming up the feeders and fishing them... :)
-
Ok - so IF you are standing the shore of the Ottawa on the Ontario side you need and Ontario license. If you are fishing from a boat - which we know you are not but want to take this point so others know - and your CAR is parked or you launched from the Ontario side you STILL need an Ontario license and vise versa. As far as fishing get your Ontario License and fish for largies in the canal or smallies in the rideau at new edi... Where are you staying? We will help draw you up a little action plan. Ottawa ROCKs for urban fishing and you will love it!!!

I got an invite from an amazing member of one of the forums we are on to fish a lake X bass lake he has in Quebec. He was extremely dissapointed in our 50 fish day that only saw one highlight. I laughed at his dissapointment - my arms are still sore 2 days later from all the hook sets. BUT when he said he would make it up to me and bring me back again when the "fishing will be better" I wasn't going to argue with him. Now he said there were lots of bass in the lake but after landing these on my 3rd cast he could have said the sky was purple and I could probably believe him. Has anyone has this happen before?? Feel free to share pictures and/or stories if you have them. HILARIOUS! Just a quick little report about a day meeting a new friend and a true first for me. Tight Lines, Smooth

Thanks Guys! That is awesome to hear Sinker - we used tinypics before to upload all of our photos but for other reasons we started using imgur instead (cleaner pictures and super simple to do multiple photos at a time - we were recommended it by a friend) - pumped that it also fixed the other issue. We had only heard from a couple of people they didn't work so I can't imagine how many people actually didn't see them. Happy everyone can view things now!!!

Today we were both together on the water again and joined John to do some BASS FISHING - it was a breathtaking launch and such a beautiful day on the water!!! I guess we must have made up with mother nature - she hadn't been very nice to us this year so far. UNFORTUNATELY the big fish didn't get the message that we were on the JDB looking for them. We started early hunting for smallies in deeper water - found dink pike and lots of bite offs. Moved on to fish for largies in some slop and weed beds - found greedy greedy perch and a tank of a smallie. When the sun got over head we were able to find some largies under trees in a back channel but couldn't find anything with any size - clone 1 1/2 - 2lbs pigglets. Not the report we were planning on writing and a very strange day indeed BUT we won't complain. More adventures coming soon! Tight lines..

Finally got my boat in the water! Small lake, big Bass!
Bassassins replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
Sounds like that donation was money well spent - can't beat a private lake with lots of BASS! -
Both is a fine answer lol
-
Beast man!!! Nice laker for sure.... It is always quality or quantity ... Why can't it just be BOTH it seems lol won't complain but which would you guys take? A day of two dozen ok fish or a single PB?

For those times we say "good fish" and love having our phones on us - a quick slide through some highlights tends to change their stories or end them quickly. We used a scale for a short period of time last summer with bass to make sure we weren't miss quoting fish. Fortunately a PB smallie was caught in that short window that we can peg a weight. Other then that we stick to a picture and if asked a rough educated estimate that is usually slightly under what we think. Other species we aren't as familiar with get measured in length - pike, walleye, muskie - the scale rarely comes out. A fish story is always a fish story without a video or photo... Gotta keep people honest!
