1. Hey Guys, My business just acquired all the displays, racking, shelving from Sail in Vaughan. I thought I would throw it to the board to see if any of you want to really Pimp out your garage or basement with some storage gear and racking, there are lots of pegboards or Slatwall with accessories. Or if you want to be the largest fly connoisseur in southern Ontario there is a 12' fly display. I have it all on Kijiji right now, what I will do for the fishing boards is give them a 50% discount on all the Kijiji ads. Take a look and see what you like... 2. I currently own the Triumph Bay 190 with a 115 Yamaha 4 stroke. Great boat..... never haver to worry about buoys or beaching on a sandy beach. It never will shine up like a glass boat and it does stain a bit if you don't wash off blood or coloured liquids. But I haven't had any major issues. I did install the t-top, trolling motor and power pole. With 2 guys it will max out at 35 mph. Before I added all the accessories I was running at 48 mph. With the modified V haul I have a draft of 12" but I have no problem staying dry in 2 ft waves, I fish Simcoe and Erie regularly so I have been my share of 4-6 footers. Great boat would recommend it to anyone.
3. The maintenance (oil, lube, oil filter, fuel filter, and lower unit oil change) came in at $340 parts and labour. The sea star seal kit and oil came in at $390ish and the remaining $510 (discount from $775) was labour. (Kit is sold for $220 retail includes tool) I would like to say only one thing was inflated but everything was inflated equally…
4. As much as I would like to file a complaint with the consumer protection act, I know that these thing take a lot of time and normally don't amount to much at the end. To me it looks like this issue happens quite often at this particular shop and can be rectified by just not giving this place any more of my business and informing others of my issues so they could make a decision if they want to partake in these shenanigans. As for a bill of sale I left it on his front desk and told him he could stick it in his @55. I wish I grabbed it so I could of post it....
5. "naaa not ignorant realistic..I do all my own servicing and poster stated the same mostly..I don't walk into any marina and say change this change that ..service this ..check this ..so you think your boss pays you 30 hr and charges you out for 30 hr come on use some common sense..is the price high ...maybe ..maybe the hyd steering was a pain to re and re we don't know the whole story" Clearly north east shark reads and only takes in the information that he wants to take in.... not once did I mention charging the client the same hourly as you pay..... Common on North East Shark clean it up....
6. Just to give a heads up, Sal did give me a quote over the phone I was in my car at the time so I asked him to email it to me, he told me the his girl wasn't in the office and he wasn't computer savvy. He gave me a parts pricing over the phone and said a couple hours on install. He made it seem like it wasn't that big of a deal and it was a in and out job. On the phone he did tell me that the seal kit was $199 I did let him know that I found it for $120, he responded with he will look in to it for me. He ended up charging me for individual pieces that were included in the kit and told me his kit was aftermarket and didn't come with the same pieces. I currently own a retail store and before owned a landscape construction company, I know what mark ups are all about. I also know that getting a $1400 bill down to the $600 - $700 mark is unrealistic. Sal gave me a bill for $1400 and then thought he would drop $225 to seem like he was giving me a deal. "Plaid coat sales tactic 101" As for the responses of higher per hour charge.... what's the difference if it is $88/hour or $120/hour when he doubles or triples the hours spent on the project??? I would call myself mechanically incline. This project may of taken me 3-4 hours and most of the time would of been set up. Like I said it was on youtube and it was timed in at 22 mins. At no point did I think he would bill me for 22 mins, I figured it would have been a 2-3 hour how it was presented to me. I know I won't get any money back from any of these messages, but if it could save other members from getting hosed by a dishonest mechanic.
7. Just giving all potential future customers a heads up..... I recently went to Dryland marine in Richmond hill (Oak Ridge's) to have a seal kit replaced on my Sea star hydraulic steering. While speaking with the owner Sal I got a good vibe off him, trusting he knew his stuff and was going to be fair with me on pricing. So going forward I mentioned if he could also do an oil and fuel filter change along with a lower unit oil change. A task I normally take on, but he seemed reasonable and I like to give businesses to small businesses if possible. Well I get a call from him 2 days later that he was going to replace the entire Sea Star because there is a small pit on the far side of the piston (Cost -$1200 plus labor). On the phone he is try to scare me into replacing the unit saying it was not safe to operate with my family. The worst case scenario would be me filling the line with more oil. I tell him I will be by on my way home for work to take a look at it. The pit on the piston is 1/2" from the left side, even if I cranked the wheel all the way to that side it was still an inch from touching the seals. I show this to Sal, the owner who is working on the project, and he is trying to backpedal his way out of the ordeal. Right there I should of backed my truck to the boat and got it out of there, but I didn't. We both agreed that a seal kit would be the best option. A week later I get a call to come pick up the boat and settle up. I take a look at the work order and the number at the bottom $1412.50 hst inc. I tasted puke in my mouth. He goes ahead and gives me a $225 break on labor because he said the Hydraulic steering didn't take as long as he thought. I then confront him and part pricing because I was going to take this project on myself but I didn't have the time. His response was that he didn't have the time to talk to me about this and told me to pay or he wasn't releasing the boat. I proceed to pay him $1158.25. This is the breakdown I put together as a result of doing a little research after the fact: Fourstroke Oil, Lube, filter, fuel filter & lower unit oil change labor include $240-$290 Many marine mechanic will charge this. Seal kit $120, Hydraulic oil $30 Retail prices (he would get a 20% discount on all parts). I would expect him to make money on parts so retail price plus 25%= $187.50 Labor for Sea Star say 2 hours even though I seen it done on you tube in 22 mins. 2 hours@$88=$176 So I would expect a bill for approximately $650 and it wouldn't be a steal but fair pricing. The money Dryland has into this project is $180 of parts & a realistic hour count of 3hours of general mechanic that he is paying $30 an hour. =$270 - $1225= $955 of profit. Maybe this is why his brother Joe is on Holidays for the past 2 weeks. I run a seasonal small business as well, and I am aware that everyone needs to make a dollar but to deceitfully make money by lying to your customer base about changing out parts that will still work and jacking up pricing without warrant is upsetting. I hope Joe and Sal enjoy their holidays because one day that junk yard they call a shop will be gone.....
8. Was using the Vexlair fish scout with their new micro sd recorder.
9. For the past 2 weeks I have been trying to schedule a date on Erie for some November Smallies, but with work and these relentless west winds nothing has materialized. So on Friday I seen a small break in the wind hoping I could get out to Erie but the bouy maker at Port Colborne was still showing 4-5 footers. So opted out and retreated to Kempenfelt Bay, not knowing Barrie would get hit with a 6-8" of snow. Knowing these Smallies well, I figured they would still have the same attitude that they had last time and the time before that...... they don't like any thing but large schools of shiners. I wanted to try out a new plastic; Jackall Pintail on C-rig. First pass I make 2 fish in the boat, Nothing huge 3 lbers but a good start. After that I made multiple passes on my stretch with nothing to show. A lot of birds around, in the deeper water so I start cruising and found a large school of fish with bait above. thinking it was Deeper fish; whities, lakers or herring I left it alone. Arrived at Spot 2 and the same thing spotty fish with bait, only shallower, 40 FOW. This is when I dropped my camera in and started recording. To my avail Smallies stack on top of each other. With the large amount of bait for these fish to take at any time they desire, it is with reason why they don't want to eat anything I offer. By dropped my 12' floro leaders to 6lbs test and down sizing hooks and bait, I figured it would convince their well trained eye to tap my offering. NOTHING. To conclude the Samllies in K-Bay are fed well from 25' to 60' FOW , They do not like to be bothered by our Drop shots, Jigs or anything else tied to a line, and they love the Camera. 11. I know a few guys in YRP and they were saying that the "innocent kid" was trying to put the bus into gear and drive off. We all know the consequences that had last year when one of their own was killed by a deranged man behind the wheel of a snowplow. I say the kid had mental issues, the parents should have assessed this and done something about it. We rely heavily on our teachers and police to parent our children, and always make them responsible when circumstance go bad. id like to know if the "kid" was receiving psychiatric care, or what kind of boundaries he had as a disturbed teenager. this situation could of went many ways, with the innocent kid stabbing and killing pedestrians on the bus to stabbing a police officer that was doing his job like everyone of us. This is just another spinoff of the truth provided from the Toronto media. Just look at the two pictures that are put in our face every morning..... last time I checked the TPS has photos of their officers that better represent the TPS then a facebook photo. Similar to this photo of the late Const. Robert Plunkett that was killed by a teenage "kid" in a car.
12. This guy seems to think a little differently then you...... Pro angler Paul Elias obliterated the competition in an FLW tournament win in 2011 using the Alabama Rig, catching 17 more pounds of fish than second place
13. I picked up a few of these rigs this summer and wantedto troll them for GB skis this fall. The 32" rig I removed all the hooksand put a release clip to the back line, so I can use a larger bait on the backstraight to my rod. the 22" one I troll directly to my heaviest trollingrod removing hooks so I only have 4 hooks on the rig. I only used it for 2hours for the first time last weekend with no results, but next weekend I willput in a solid shift with it.
14. thanks a lot guys. that noise sounds like a prettycommon problem. but an easy fix. As for the stalling at full throttle it seemslike a malfunctioning sensor, because this motor runs and starts perfect, nohesitation and has never even stutter in idle. but when it runs at full throttlefor 20 min or so it feels like someone pulled the kill switch. after I put itin neutral it fires up with no hesitation or stuttering. Could it be aninjector issue?
15. I have a 115 hp Yamaha 4 stroke fuel injected with 250hours on it. At idle I hear a screeching/whistle sound that happens every onceand a while. It screeches/whistles for about 3-5 seconds then stops. it onlyhappens at idle and trolling speeds. It may happen at full throttle but I can'thear it cause the noise of the motor. This has happens all year consistently. it almost sounds like water pump but thepisser is always working and never showed signs of it slowing down during thenoise. Last time iwas out i had an issue that when i was going full throttle the boat stalled onme, this also only happens to me very periodically and a while on longer tripsat full throttle. When restarting the motor it starts perfectly. I am putting fuelstabilizer in with premium gas and it has only happened twice since. Anyoneelse having any of these 2 issues?
16. i just fished la reserve beauchene and was marking a ton of fish on bottom and suspended up to 30 off bottom. I made about 4 passes because i thought they were lakers or walleye, untill i snaged a soild 6 pound whitefish. found that if i seen 3-6 fished stacked up they were whities if larger schools they were smaller eyes.
17. is that bond lake you are fishing?
18. I've beengoing down to that area for the last 7 years, beautiful area. I was recommendedto charter with Captain Jim Huddleston; great guide beautiful boat and reallyknows his stuff. First time i went out with him we hit the coldest cold frontof the winter season. We fished for about 6 hours landing 10- 15 reds andtrout, not the best day on the water but still not the worst. Jim only chargedus for half the charter price. 3 days later, Jim called me up and told me thereds were on fire and told us to meet him on the dock at 7am for a day on thewater free of charge. we worked tailing reds for 6 hours and he still didn’twant to come in. this captain is a full time captain on the water 6 days aweek, a little pricier but well worth it. BTW if you find a cheap guide morethen likely you’ll be fishing on a weekend with all of the other weekendfisherman on all the well known spots with live bait. Full time captains followthe schools of drum and reds around on a daily basis. Jim Huddleston= class I now bring my boat down there if need a few spots pm me and i could give you a few gps cords, around the pinallas point area

Jim Huddleston 546 8th Street Palm Harbor, FL 34683 [email protected]
19. Anyoneelse notice that 7 out of the top ten largest smallies were caught from1979-1986. Relatively a short period of time, considering the warming trends, introductionof zebra mussels and alternate food source the goby
