A long time ago in Hamilton we were fishing a bridge and there was a bunch of lines broken off on a wire, you know the kind. A gull fly by and hooked itself on the wire. We tried everything to get it down. A guy had his golf clubs in the car and we taped a knife to and eventually got it cut free.

Yah, it was weird. through the mountains The mini was getting terrible mileage and through the praries it was much better. The truck on the other hand was seeking a bit on the flats towing the trailer and the truck loaded up. Probably about 6500 pounds worth of trailer, people and stuff. I think most of the time I was trying to find a speed that held me in 5th but it would push down to 4th on occasion. Going through the hills of Ontario and the mountains in BC I seemed to average about an extra 100km's per tank. I actually was holing 4th up all the hills and mountains and 8th going down with some breaks here and there to keep us in check. Handling was great though, lots of breaks. Very impressed with the V6 and 8 speed combo on the ram. This was a true test of its durability and power. I didn't feel underpowered once through the entire trip and had no issues at all maintaining and accelerating if need be on even the longest and steepest mountain passes. If you are in the market I would consider the V6 to be well suited for towing the weight of an old water logged 23 foot travel trailer and a bed full of gear. I now have 50k on the truck and about a year and half of ownership and have been very satisfied. If I had the choice to buy it again or look elsewhere I would only consider the new diesel version but if that wasn't my cup of tea I would buy this truck again.

Thanks for the weather. I was told the last 3 summers have been amazing. However there are lots of forest fires and provincial bans all over. We drove through a big forest fire in Kamloops. We thought it was low lying cloud cover. We were amazed when we stopped and talked to some locals. The truck was awesome. As for the mileage while hauling the big 23 footer well I was getting about 500km's between fills and putting in about 85 liters. so around 17 liters/100 km's. I actually had roughly the same range as the girlfriends mini all the way. I did notice that driving through the mountains I got much better mileage going up and down the hills alternating coasting and gasing it up the hills than I did through the prairies where it was dead flat. Maybe there is more corn oil in the gas in the prairies. I do have some Jets parafanelia I just can't bring myself to by a nucks jersey or hat. If anyone in the future browses across this thread and is going to make the drive, feel free to get in touch with me I can pass off some details of things that worked and didn't work for us during the trip. Hitting the road with 5 kids was trying at times but overall we all had an awesome time and its well worth it even if you aren't moving. So much awesome stuff to see. I wish we weren't on as much of a time table to have gotten here so we could have made a few more stops.

Well after a grueling summer of moving across Canada I finally have time to drop in and say hi. Hope everyone's fishing season is going well. Last I heard the weather was a bit crummy in ontario. Outside of two maybe three mornings it's been 30 degrees and blue bird skies pretty near every day. Since moving I haven't had a chance to go fishing, just no time with all the moving stuff. I am hoping to get out after I get back from a business trip back to ontario. The sockeye run is massiv this year and I am dying to get out. Anyhow here is a video of some pictures from the summer and the road trip to BC... only one fish pic though. Hopefully lots of hunting and fishing pics to come. On a side note the flooding in Manitoba was astounding. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ypIfsR-AVaI

Trailer and tounge ratings are well within the limits. It will likely end up in the truck.

When towing trailer if you have tbe option of putting say 600 pounds in the back of your truck versus adding that weight to the trailer would either make a difference in term of fuel economy?
-
You are getting about the same mileage as my 2013 v6 ram 1500 gets. Does yours have the 8speed?

So it looks like the plans are set and everything is a go. The family is picking up and hauling across Canada. First off I will not be trading in my leafs jersey for a Canucks jersey. Second I want to take a Sigler day to fish something legendary along the way. Where do I make a pit stop for a day to fish? Northern pike? Musky? Waleye? Brookes? Plead your case let's here your suggestions? I don't want to venture too far off the drive between so if it's close to the highwaythat would be ideal.

I am keeping a couple bait casters and a couple spinning rods, I know there is some bass fishing there. The goal is more I don't want to move with a tonne of stuff that may end up breaking. I don't mind rebuying but the more I can sell off the less I have to move and worry about. Its gonna be an adventure getting across the country, we won't be in a rush to get there and will take our time. hopefully I can do some fishing along the way. -

100 pound power pro, penn bait caster, shimano tc4 rod(same one I use for musky). 16ounce sinker rigged like a Carolina rig, 1 foot off the weight was a larger barbless circle hook tipped with 4 or 4 dew worms. Very simple rig. Very effective. -

The video shows almost 10 minutes of fight time but what you miss was the 10 minutes prior when it was truly going ballistic. The rod did a good nose dive in the holder then was dead, I grabbed felt for weight and was up on my toes with a jump set. About halfway into the hook set the fish bolted and nearly took me in. haha. The drag was screaming and my arms were throbbing. I can't even imagine what the 1000+ pound ones are like. I can hardly wait to go back for more. If you haven't gone and you enjoy big fish like Musky or big lakers all I can say is WOW you are missing out big time by having not gone sturgeon fishing. The power is unreal. -

I was going to write up how awesome the trip to BC was, show you all the amazing photos of the mountains we climbed, the pictures of Bald Eagles, bears, Sea to Sky Highway, Deltas and rivers.... but hey this is a fishing forum so I will treat you all with my video. What an amazing trip... and btw keep your ears on the classifieds section a move to BC may be in my future after this trip.... I will upload some pictures later... I just got back last night... My heart is still pumping and my hands still tingling. What a truly life changing experience. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMqwlPJbJg0&feature=youtu.be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xMqwlPJbJg0

Its nice to have a phone for the functions that we stopped using other things for. Stopped carrying a handheld GPS while hunting, Use navionics, No GPS in the car, Use my cell phone for pictures unless I bring my dSLR, don't wear a watch or carry a flashlight, was the source of music in the car as I hate the radio. a Cell phone has replaced a lot of other everyday items for me. I have no problem unplugging but those are a few of the things I missed while not having a cell phone. Contacting people or social media aren't really major priorities of mine. If you aren't already in my presence I probably don't want to hear from you. haha
