  1. Just wondering if anyone knows of a lake or boat launch that isn't frozen? I think I am gonna rip the floor out of my boat and try and find the leak, but I would like to leave myself enough time to fix it by the openers. Any boat launches melted yet in the kawarthas or around Durham area Lake Ontario...

  2. If your solid into catching Musky, then stick with the biggest bull you can afford and throw. Little stuff (bass sized spinnerbaits) will no doubt catch musky. But I have yet to catch a Bass on a12" Jointed Believer. If you want to catch musky and nothing but, throw the big stuff. If you jsut want to go out and catch fish go with the smaller stuff.

  3. Yah the leafs are soo frustrating. it was only a few weeks ago they were sitting pretty, 4th last. now the sots go on a 4 game win streak and now they are 8th last. I mean really, lets win a few more games, and get yet another 10 - 20th draft pick that will go no where. I don't think anyone will even take any of the Leaf players...The next few days will be interesting for Leaf Nation...

  4. Well do you think the leafs will go 15 and 6 and make a run for the playoffs and screw any chance of a good draft pick or 6 and 15 and have a shot at getting a good draft pick....

hmm the poll didn't work out very good.

  5. I drive about 120km's round trip per day, but a new job would net me around 210km's round trip per day, but the increase in salary would be well worth it. What time does the 407 start to jam up in the morning at Brock road? Ideally I woul dlike to negotiate and early start and leave time if it gets to that point, but that time would be dependant on the traffic flow. If I was entering the 407 at say 7:20am at brock would that get me past the traffic to the 427?

  6. Does anyone drive the 407 in the morning and evening rush? I am looking at a different job, but I would essentially need to drive the 407 from The start at Brock road to 427 in the morning and back on 427 and off at Brock in the evening...anyone have any ideas what the traffic is like and how long it would take to make that drive?

  7. Best thingto do is buy a cheap 50 -100 dollar reel and live with the frustration for a feww months, then borrow a friends currado and you will never look back. If you start out with a currado you will be sorely disapointed with everything else and you may not be able to truly indulge in the greatness that the curado offers.

Having said that Abu does make some relaly solid reels, as doesn diawa, but I have never met anyone that has had issues with a curado.

For example I have a 200dhsv on a quantum IM7 MH rod and I have cast a weightless senko with no backlash futher than my friend can cast a spinner bait with his 300 dollar johny morris.

He borrowed my currado for two casts and he now has 3 curados.

  8. Honestly with boats and speed people have two misconceptions....Most people think 50 mph is reallly 70mph, and people think 3mph is 7 mph.

Its funny how that works. I have a gps and I always know exactly my water speed and true speed. I had a guy in my boat a ways back and when I was going 3.6mph he thought we were going 7-10mph. Slow trolling for musky at 3-5mph, really seems like your going pretty fast. I can tell you when your going 7mph+ it take two really strong arms to hold your rod and a Heavy action Musky rod will be all but doubled over if you hold it straight out sideways( I like to hold mine pointing back on about a 45 degree angle. Your drag will have to be ramped up pretty high so you aren't pulling drag, and if your trolling anything other than a musky high speed bait its gonna be jumping out of the water or at the very least ripping through the water sideways. You need spinner baits in excess of 2 - 3 ounces and 10" or longer hardbody baits. You will need lots of line out as well about 50 - 70 yards....

In my 16 foot alluminum with a 30hp yammy 2 storke, I am at well into the throttle, and as I mentioned I need to creep up to that speed otherwise I get on plane and go way too fast.

  9. I have caught most fish trolling at about 3.6 - 4mph. BUt i have caught and trolled for musky at up to 10mph.

at 10mph, I have to creep up to that speed gradually, and let lots of line out with a big huge spinner bait and the rod tip pointed down, otherwise it pops out. I am basically just riding on the edge of the bow wake. ANy faster and I'll be on plane.I try and mix up the speeds. Think about it though how fast would a perch swim past a musky? Likely allot faster than 10mph. Assuming your trying to invoke a feeding frenzy reaction strike. Your gonna need to be burning that spinner bait.

BTW a muskie is known to be able to swim at 30 - 35mph. SInce its apredator this speed is to catch fish, so I would only assume it needs to be able to catch up to something goin damn fast.

  10. I would have thought the on shift Supervisor or custommer service person is the right person to handle an exchange. LIke I said if a company can't handle a simple exchange on a broken store brand item, they are not worth my time. Its not like I went in with a broken zebco spincasting reel asking for a Curado. This is a store brand bag in exchange for a store brand bag. Seems like a pretty simple thing to me. The problem I have with what your saying is that if I am to return something I am to immediatly ask for the General Manager of the store to make a simple exchange. This is why there is a customer service desk. I mean holy poop, if you go through the Drive through at McDonalds and you are missing a big mac they give you a coupon and your Big Mac. I could list off numerous box stores that will go out of there way to handle returns and exchanges quickly and courtiously. When you say that you think the situation was handled properly, that does belittle my experience. The situation was screwed up right from the begining to the very end, and is very typical of Bass Pro service.

  11. Like I said, in the end I got the bag replaced but the experience overall has left me with a sour taste in my mouth and I won't be back any time soon. Getting back just the bag without even a note of appology for the inconvenience or a 5 dollar gift card or even a 5 percent off coupon or something cements the willingness for Bass Pro to do the Bare minimum. In fact when I was talking to the manager, He told be straight out that they have millions of happy custommers and I an choose to spend my money anywhere I choose. Well I guess you can interpret that however you like but I take that as my money is not needed or wanted at Bass pro as there are lots of other people willing to spend there money their. I do appologize for this turning into a bit of a hijack.

  12. At the time I was peaking to the floor supervisor or whomever is it was, and I was offered a 30 dollar in store credit for my broken bag as I didn't have the boxes with me. I said I didn't want a store credit I want a bag thats not broken like the one promised to me, they said that I would have to pay the difference(the bag was 50 dollars, but minus the tackle boxes they were only going to give me 30 dollars, towards another bag then I wouldhave 80 bucks plus gas into a 50 dollar bag. They said "If I couldn't afford to pay the difference I could look for a cheaper smaller bag to exchange with", No thanks, walked out went to Lebaron and spent 300 bucks.

The only reason I got a call is because I emailed teh Head office in the US.

I too have worked in retail and when a customer drives 1.5 hours to a store to do a direct exchange on a broken itemThat person doesn't leave with nothing. If need be the person is offered an exchange of a similarly price item but is under no circumstances expected to pay extra.

Did they handle it correctly? I really don't think mailing out a bag after the frustration that was caused over a store brand item is adequate compensation to try and reclaim a lost customer. But I guess thats how you run your retail store as well.

  13. Aside from the slow shipping when buying from cabelas.s...aka Sir Mail order, I would much rather spend my money there....Don't even get me started on bASS Pro customer service.

I have a BPS Extreme 370 tackle bag and the zipper broke, I phone to ask if I could exchange it in store for one without a broken zipper and they said sure, come on in, I told them I had no reciept, she said no problem, I asked if I should bring in the boxes as theyare full of lures she said nope just bring the bag.

Well when I got to the store(1.5 hour drive) It was another story, I ended up leaving a basket full of musky lures and tackle on the floor at the custommer service desk and left with my broken bag.

I sent an email to head office in the US and the next day the GM from Bass pro called me and they ended up mailing me a replacement bag.

I guess in the end I got what I should have but I certainly didn't get any compensation for the argrivation nor any reason to go back. I was never out for anythign extra, just the bag, but a gift card or something liek that would at least get me back in the store especially with hunting season right on top of us. I won't be back to Bass pro any time soon, but I order from cabellas instead in front of my nice warm fire. If I need it right away I go to a local shop and pay more.

  14. Just an fyi, your not allowed to challenge the hunters course, you can only challenge the gun course. Best bet is to take both courses. The course is definatly lacking as you will walk away from the course saying, hmm ok now what? Can I go here, where can I go? can I really just go walk through the bush with a gun? It will all seem weird at first, Best thing is to take the course and hook up with someone that already hunts, friend, relative etc...

Its like launching a boat, You don't want to be backing up a trailer for the first time in your life with a 50 thousand dollar bass boat in a Bass tournament.

  15. White seems to be the go to color, we were catching them shallow and deep, just make a decision if your gonna go for the shallow lunkers, the mid lake head shakes or the super deep hogs, then gear yourself up and hit the water. In the derby people were cathing them from the river mouth to the very north tip and everywhere in between. Its feed bag time for musky and they are definatly on.
