  1. Alumacraft, Princecraft, Lund are the top 3 brands imo. And whoever said the thing about aircraft welding and rivets is a smart man. It is not possible to cnosistently weld alluminum without weakening the material around it. Especially in a factory stamp em out scenario.

  2. Just google legend cracked hull. Or legend class action or even search on here, lots of people have had issues with them. One of my good freinds also had a legend and it split right down the keel while out on simcoe. And 18 footer. It got fixed and he sold it. Thankfully he was close to shore perching. He was able to beach it. I don't think it would have actually sunk, but when water started gushing in it was a bit of panic time. The problem with the welded hulls is area beside the weld can get weak if the weld is done too hot or something. Maybe they have worked out these issue but I wouldn't ever touch one.

  3. I am surprised anyone would recomend a Legend with all of the well known hull problems and warranty issues people have had with them. I won't receommend a brand, of either boat or motor because I don't think you asked for it. What I will say is this. What ever the boat is rated for is what is should have. Otherwise you will end up wishing you had a bit more juice. Put it this way. If you want to run 50 mph. This is the only way you wil be satisfied by throttling down and cruising in it. What you will end up doing is running WOT most of the time if your not maxxed out. Also for safety sake if your fishing big water, get a kicker. Also with big water if you need to get up and off the lake in a hurry you wil appreciate the extra few MPH you will get out of a bigger motor. I can't recall every seeing a thread where someone wanted to downgrade the size of there main motor do to it being too powerful or too fast.

P.S. Lund with a Yammy is a nice combo.

  4. Anyway, so I was out tooling around in the boat and saw hundreds of giant carp, are they feeding right now? How do you catch these things? I haven't ever really went carp fishing other than a long time ago, but I was thinking it might be fun to hook into one of these big beasts to see what they feel like. Anyone have any tips on fishing for them in a river from a boat? What do you need? hook size bait etc... I figure a circle hook some a a couple split shots and some of that carp bait stuff they sell in a bag at ctc?

  5. Well the winds were nuts today. Upwards of 25-30km per hour. We went out for a bit into the bay but the gf was scared so we went back into the river and just floated around. We took the trolling motor all the way up the riverpast the bridge on woodbine and down at least a few km's. Its pretty cool back there looks. likey a bayou in lousianna. All it was missing was some crocs and an old man with playing Mouth harp. :)

The river down at that end was teeming with huge and I mean huge carp. it was pretty cool actually. Didn't really do any fishing but it was a nice day once we got out of the wind. I am hoping sunday is a bit less windy so we can go out onto the bay and try some of those perch and crappie spots.

  6. Was out on cooks bay today with my 16 foot Lund, and it was pretty choppy out there. The GF was scared so we stayed in the river and watched carp all day. :) Just watch out when the winds get more than 15km/h Today was 25, and I don't think I would want to be out there in a toon.

  7. Oh yah. if you do go to Tea lake. Pack a lunch in a cooler and paddle down the river to Smoke lake and about halfway down Smoke there is a group of rocky islands. There are no bugs there and you can hang out on the rocks, go for a swim and have a little barbeque. Its a very small group of rocks but its pretty cool.

  8. I thought there was but maybe there isn't. We only satyed one night because we were going to opeongo and we got up there too late. If you have a canoe try and get one that is by the lake that way you don't have to drag your canoe all over the place you can just pull it up on shore. Mew Lake campground is the nicest with the nicest facilities as far as drive in camping. If you go there though stay at the sites on the far side or else you will hear cars and trucks driving past on the highway all night long.

  9. Anyone have ideas on where to find perch or crappiein cooks bay? Preferably somewhere near the keswick side. I might be heading out tomorrow. Maybe some tips on depths or sturcture to look for? I haven't really done much panfishing accept for the crappie opener I do every year on the tri lakes. Any tips would be much appreciated.

  10. Tea lake is nice. How secluded do you want? The campsites are pretty spacious I was able to easily park my 16foot lund and jeep with lots of room to spare. There is a small beach and a decent swimming area i nthe little bay. The bathrooms and showers are pretty typical for a provincial park. The paddle down the river to smoke is very nice.

Do you want to drive up or paddle in to the site or drive in? If you just want some privacy and are going to paddle in then I would suggest staying on the lower arm on a site south of bates island on opeongo.

  11. Not over the counter. Aikmans used to be a repair facility where you could go and bring your broken rod and he would replace it. You couldn't do that at most stores for a long time. He said he just got the notification in December from some new pinhead accountant.

I raised this exact requirement in this weeks "broke my rod, have no receipt, what do I do" thread!

At least 2 years.. it might be 3 since Brian at Fishing Depot told me they couldn't do over the counter anymore. Gotta be at least that long, I can't remember when I was in there last..

  12. Well I broke one of my compres a few weeks ago hooking into a musky that was disguised as a crappie. I headed down to Aikmans from newmarket, and when I got there he said that shimano changed there policy. No more rod warranties unless you mail them into Peterborough. He was obviously not happy about this. Neither was I. Did I miss this change or what? I called up the head office and the guy said they changed there policy because too many people were getting rods replaced that shouldn't have. So they want them all returned to the head office to be inspected before they will be replaced.

Anyway this is a big change in my eyes. I am not happy about this. Maybe cause I spend 20 bucks in gas and now need to spend another 15 in shiping.

    Just thought I would rant.

Boo shimano.... and if this was already posted boo on me.

  13. All the shimano rods from Cumara to Convergence have alimited lifetime.

Cumulus has an over the counter lifetime.

Any of the rods from shimano that have a lifetime warranty are excellent depending on your budget.I have / have had several convergence, Clarus, compre, V-rod, Cumara and crucial rods and I have liked everyone. They all have there own ups and downs but it comes with the price. Dollar for Dollar you can't go wrong.
